Hi. I keep the Mario series character FAQ over at GameFAQs. I'd like to link to that file, but I'm not sure where it should go on the links page. Any advice? http://spacepope4u.tripod.com/mario_characters.txt Spacepope4u 18:48, 6 July 2006 (EDT)

Does that work? --Son of Suns 19:08, 6 July 2006 (EDT)

I want to add that banner, but it doesn't go in right. Can someone add it for me? --Luigifan14 17:09, 29 July 2006 (EDT)

Mario Modding Mansion

Can someone add my forum, Mario Modding Mansion, to the affiliate links section? Our banner is already in there. Here is the link. Your link is in our sidebar and our links section. --LifeMushroom 09:50, 21 July 2015 (EST)

Article?

Are we accepting Links into the article namespace? That's why it was moved in the first place. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 22:57, 28 January 2007 (EST)

Also, Knife said that we were big enough to accept Link Exchange or else remove links. If you can set down the law for us, Steve, that'd be better. Wa Yoshihead.png TC@Y 22:58, 28 January 2007 (EST)

I think it's fine in the article namespace. It's just supposed to be a list of other Mario sites, different from affiliates which get a button on the main page. I have no idea where link exchange falls in, but I guess as long as their links are included on that page, our link can stay on their site. I don't see why it should be limited to link exchangers only. --Steve (talk) firefox_27x15.png 23:17, 28 January 2007 (EST)

Super Mario Party Site

I'd like to link my site here, but I'm not sure if i'm allowed to so better ask first. I already have Mario Wiki linked in my site. Just waiting for permission. Heres a link to my site : http://www.supermariopartysite.com/

Many North American sites are removed

Most of the North American sites for older games (and even for more recent games like WarioWare: Smooth Moves) have been removed and are now just redirects to Nintendo.com (where the sites for older games are also not available anymore since the relaunch) or broken. So the respective links in this list should be removed as well, right? --Grandy02 14:21, 31 October 2008 (EDT)

Yup, broken links and redirect links shouldn't be there anymore. Knife (talk) 16:57, 31 October 2008 (EDT)

MarioWiki Page?

Shouldn't this be a MarioWiki page since it deals with alternate sites, rather than a mainspace page? — Stooben Rooben 08:54, 3 November 2008 (EST)

I fully agree, I see no reason why this page is in mainspace, it isn't about the fictional universe (only the sites it links to are) or related people/companies. It's a list of external links. --Grandy02 14:28, 14 November 2008 (EST)
It was long overdue, but I moved it. — Stooben Rooben 15:52, 16 December 2008 (EST)

Boo Mansion

I'd like to become one of MarioWiki's main affiliates, but I'm not sure if there are any requirements. There is just a link saying "add your button now" or something and links to the edit page for the affiliates template. If I can just go ahead and add it, just let me know. We are not a character specific fan site or anything of that nature, we focus on content in all areas of Mario. The url is boomansion.net and I've already linked to and added MarioWiki's button. Any feedback on this would be appreciated, thanks! BooMansion 16:10, 08 December 2009 (EST)

Thanks for your interest BooMansion, I will check you site and tell you if it meets our requirements. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:20, 8 December 2009 (EST)
Ok, checked and I think it meets all requirements. Now please contact Porplemontage (talk) and ask him if it is OK. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:28, 8 December 2009 (EST)

Removed sites

Half of these websites have ben removed I think we need to check the links and remove the links to no longer functioning sites. Just a thought--Yoshidude99 17:37, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

I'll get to it tomorrow. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 01:50, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Update

I'm presuming it's fine to remove the link to my old site (DS Ultimate) since it doesn't exist and add one of my new sites (either Nintendo 3DS Fans or Community) to affiliates to replace it, correct?

Correct. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:39, 10 January 2011 (EST)

Semi-protect

Should we semi-protect this page, so that no anons/new users add spam or useless links (like this? --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 18:22, 24 March 2014 (EDT)

Some of these sites...

They have either moved or no longer exist, and clicking on them goes to some weird pages, something like web.archive.org. --Bowser Jr., in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam.Triple K, Skye 21:50, 25 November 2014 (EST)

Fansites Removal

Initially, the idea behind this was to have a moderated page of known fansites and popular links used by the community, and to help fellow Mario-themed communities in forming. As it was, this section was a huge failure. There was pretty much no quality control and hardly any maintenance over the years. Many of the sites were dead, a few were flash game aggregates, a few others were long abandoned vanity projects, a bunch were ROM sites and at least one had closed down and was subsequently snatched up by a fledgling porn site. Despite a handful of attempts to rein it in, we've had people flake on upkeep and the hits just kept coming. The administrative staff feels that the section has outlived it's usefulness, particularly in light of our Fan Creations board filling the same function with more control.

If you feel that you're particular site deserves to be on this page regardless, feel free to shoot one of our Sysops a message about possible affiliation status. -- Shyghost.PNGGhost JamShyghost.PNG 02:08, 7 January 2015 (EST)

For reference, I brought up on the staff board we should maybe do some more quality control on this section since there was ton of dead links, people periodically adding virus-ridden flash reconstruction hosts and blatantly illegal rom dumps, obvious self-promotion... etc. (and I kinda resent the statement that "The administrative staff feels that the section has outlived it's usefulness" when there was barely a concensus forming grumble grumble).
I feel there is value in having a better-maintened fansite link dump, but I suppose starting with a clean slate is easier. --Glowsquid (talk) 09:15, 7 January 2015 (EST)
Per administrative discussion, the fan section will be readded, but we're going to be cleaning it up and being much more selective about what makes it on the list. If you find broken links, downed sites, non-Mario fandom sites or anything that would be generally considered inappropriate, please either make a note of this page or contact a Sysops. -- Shyghost.PNGGhost JamShyghost.PNG 17:44, 11 January 2015 (EST)

DKC Fans

This site doesn't seem to work any more, but it did have content earlier (like in 2015). What should we do about it? Remove the link? Link to Archive.org's version instead? Something else?

Cheat-master30

I think the best would be to remove it. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 19:56, 31 December 2015 (EST)

Some Minor Updates

I replaced Nintendo 3DS Community with Gaming Reinvented, because I closed down the former and have basically replaced it with the latter (may move the forum content over at some point in the future). I also fixed the Boo Mansion image button, since it was using a dead Imageshack link. This now comes from one of our affiliates (Super Luigi Bros) who in turn host a copy of the Boo Mansion affiliate button.

finalfantasywiki.com?

Is it ok if the wiki is added to affiliate links? It's a very big WIP and incomplete wiki (as is NIWA's Metroid Wiki to be honest), and for a big franchise, I think an independent wiki needs all the support that it can get for its amibition. Reason I'm asking here specifically is because Final Fantasy has related to Mario on occasion with the Hoops 3-on-3 and Sports Mix titles (and some SMRPG references). Grifkuba only wants to add an interwiki to Mario Wiki if this community is ok with it. Does this wiki give its permission? Results May Vary (talk) 11:32, March 9, 2021 (EST)

Interwiki links from you to us is fine, if that's what you want to use. You don't really need to ask permission for that. From us to you, I'm open to it, but I think we need more support for that. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:57, March 12, 2021 (EST)

Affiliating With Discord Servers

Hey guys, quick question. Do Mario Wiki affiliate with Discord servers, or is it mostly just websites, blogs and traditional forums? I'm kinda curious about that, since someone I know wondered if their WarioWare DIY server could be an affiliate, but they don't have a publically accessible website for it.

Cheat-master30 20:38, May 8, 2022 (GMT)

We're affiliated with the 1-Up World discord but thar's mostly on the co-founder being one of our admins. I've passed on your question to the staff in the meantime. --Glowsquid (talk) 22:05, May 8, 2022 (EDT)

Inactive/questionable affiliate links

The "nintendoaddict" forum doesn't exist any more, and fusiongameworks(dot)net is automatically blocked by uBlock Origin on my end. Would anyone object to having these affiliate links removed? -- KOOPA CON CARNE 15:22, December 11, 2022 (EST)

Wario Ware fansite

Good evening. I would like my WarioWare fansite ([1]) to be mentioned on this MarioWiki page. Its name is Crygor Crisis. I spent so much time and effort into making that site, that it has a lot of goodies to explore into. Thanks. Don't click Penny PnnyCrygr User contributions 05:16, September 2, 2023 (EDT)

Overhaul this page

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

Overhaul 6-0
I would just like to tell that this page, esp. the fansite links section, has not aged well. Websites have evolved over the years and probably some of the links featured in this page do not exist anymore.

I propose that this page belonging to the MarioWiki namespace be overhauled entirely, like the fansites and affiliates sections featuring more newer sites; the dead-link sites would then be eliminated. In MarioWiki:Links#Affiliates, there are banners. Banners are no longer used in the internet mainstream, so they probably may be replaced by regular links instead. Otherwise, this affiliates section is inconsistant; there are banners AND piped links in the same section!

And I'd like to tell for a second choice: Maybe only the official sites section could be revamped. This section supposedly listing "every single Super Mario-related official site" horribly pads the page, and some newer game websites are not mentioned in there, e.g. Mario Wonder and WarioWare Move It. The layouting for the list is messed up; it is a mess of "America:" and "Asia Pacific:" and would better be displayed as some sort of table with such region names as the headers. Like this intentionally-incomplete mock-up (the sites themselves can also be found on the game's article page):

Game Americas Asia Pacific Europe
Super Mario Bros. Wonder North America
Japan (My Nintendo) United Kingdom
Germany

Or maybe just delete "Official sites"; if not too redundant, these sites can be found under the "External links" section of their respective games' article. That's the third choice.

Specifically, what this proposal concerns is this under-used page, which needs to be updated to fit the more contemporary times.

Proposer: PnnyCrygr (talk)
Deadline: January 10, 2024, 23:59 GMT

Overhaul this page entirely

  1. PnnyCrygr (talk) Per this.
  2. Somethingone (talk) Per proposal, especially with how dated it looks; the "official sites" section is a multi-column list (which looks jarring on mobile) sorted alpha-numerically instead of chronologically or by sub-series, for one. And to add to the banner issue, it uses a banner and a link for each site there, instead of just some sites using banners and others using links. Not just inconsistent, it is redundant. And there's a random Super Mario Wiki section at the bottom.
  3. Super Game Gear (talk) Per proposer.
  4. Camwoodstock (talk) Per all. This thing desperately needs some work, fixing deadlinks to point to Internet Archive links and, as we mentioned in the comments, whatever the hey is happening in the fansites area.
  5. Mario (talk) Prune inactive fansites due to their volatile tendencies and link rot. See MarioWiki_talk:Links#Fansites_Removal, see Camwoodstocks' comments of this proposal. We overhauled it in 2015, problems persist. I don't want MarioWiki to have links to virus porn sites.
  6. Hewer (talk) I feel like getting rid of this page would be the better solution at this point but this is still better than nothing so per all.

Overhaul "Official sites" section only

Delete "Official sites" section

Do nothing

Comments

While updating the official site links to potentially point to the wayback machine and also add sites for newer games is one thing (and personally, we feel that should just be done regardless of the proposal--a good portion of those deadlinks are likely because of just, the ever-changing nature of the Nintendo website), we feel like there should be an option to overhaul the fansites section in specific, because to be honest here, that section is way more overdue for a re-viewing than the official sites are. A few sites we should likely either reconsider or prune outright, just from a cursory glance:

  • Mario Series Character Guide was last updated in 2007. This thing is a fossil, and it's frankly lucky to still exist; we actually chucked this at the Wayback Machine for good measure.
  • Video Game Memorabilia Museum is dead, full stop.
  • Mario Monsters has been dormant since 2013. It's not defunct, but it seems like it's on death's door.
  • marioparty.de was last updated in 2021. Maybe concerning, but it's certainly not as bad as others here.
  • USA Advance is an Angelfire site from 2001. We cannot find when it last updated. We threw it at the Wayback Machine, too.
  • Super Mario Community seems to have been last updated in 2021? There's a bit of a language barrier here and a lack of obvious dates.
  • WikiGames is even deader; it literally only exists as a 404 page on Google Sites.
  • Wii's World seems to have ship of theseus'd itself into being about... online casinos. This is an extremely rare sentence for a proposal: we think we have a legal obligation to remove this, because the idea of having a link to a website that regularly shills online gambling is bad.
  • Mario Kart Boards is dead.

While repairing the Official sites section is time-consuming, it's also fairly trivial. There's, um, no fixing Wii's World up there... ;P ~Camwoodstock (talk) 15:48, December 27, 2023 (EST)

I absolutely agree that something needs to be done here, but I don't like the vagueness of the first option. What exactly would this "overhaul" entail? What specific links do you want added and removed? Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 22:02, December 27, 2023 (EST)

Uh, the links that are outdated and/or redirect to an HTTP 404 should be removed. Links that could be added are more recent fan-sites and Mario related subreddits. Don't click Penny PnnyCrygr User contributions 02:37, December 28, 2023 (EST)
