The "Main Theme"[1], also known as the "Luigi's Mansion Theme",[2] is a musical theme composed for Luigi's Mansion by Kazumi Totaka.[3] It is a suspenseful piece played in A minor at a moderato tempo, and is usually associated with the Luigi's Mansion series and Luigi himself. An alternate arrangement of the "Main Theme" is also often associated with Professor E. Gadd.

Original

The "Main Theme" is first heard in Luigi's Mansion in the cutscene where Professor E. Gadd meets Luigi for the first time. The "Main Theme" is most often heard when Luigi is in a dark hallway of the mansion and not actively engaged in combat. He may hum along to the theme as it plays, sounding more distressed as his HP gets closer to zero. It is titled 「ルイージマンション」 (Ruīji Manshon, "Luigi's Mansion") in the Nintendo Sound Selection Vol.3: B-Side Music album.

It is titled 「オヤマー博士の研究所」 (Oyamā Hakase no Kenkyūjo, "Professor E. Gadd's Laboratory") in the Nintendo Sound Selection Vol.3: B-Side Music album. This theme would become the basis for arrangements associated with Professor E. Gadd in future games.

When Luigi enters a lit room, the background music goes silent while he whistles the "Main Theme".

A chiptune arrangement of the "Main Theme" is used as the Game Boy Horror's ringtone.

A different chiptune arrangement of the "Main Theme" is included in the music heard during Game Boy Horror calls.

A harp arrangement of the "Main Theme" plays when Luigi is outside of the mansion or in the Observatory after looking at the moon.

A piano arrangement of the "Main Theme" can be heard when Luigi is standing outside of the Conservatory before defeating Melody Pianissima.

The music heard during the cutscene when Luigi is trapped in the Astral Hall is a brief arrangement of the "Main Theme"

In the Clockwork Room, the clocks on the right side of the room play an arrangement of the "Main Theme" when the player interacts with them.

One of three brief arrangements plays when Luigi's NEW Mansion is built with either Rank A, Ranks B-G, or Rank H, respectively.

The Game Over theme is an arrangement of the "Main Theme".
