This article is about the power-ups found in different games. For the space in Mario Party 3, see Power-up Space. For the status effect that means "power up", see POW-Up. For the move from Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser, see Special Skill.

Power-ups give special abilities upon using them. Most of the effects make fighting and/or exploration easier. Below is a list of the different power-ups, with a selection of their sprites/artwork and a list of their respective Mario game appearances.

Bee Mushroom Bee Suit Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2 Transforms Mario into Bee Mario, allowing him to fly for a short time, walk on clouds and flowers, and stick to honeycombs.
Big Mushroom SMM-SMB-Mushroom.png Super Mario Maker 30th Anniversary Amiibo Modern Color Mushroom Super Mario Maker, Super Mario Maker 2 (Super Mario Bros. style only) Transforms Mario into Big Mario, allowing him to destroy Brick Blocks, Ice Blocks, ? Blocks, and Hard Blocks by jumping on/under them. In Super Mario Maker, it also lets Mario destroy blocks by running into them, and it gives the screen a "CRT" effect, and changes enemies' appearances to be Mario-themed.
Blimp Fruit File:SMG2 Blimp Fruit Sprite.png Super Mario Galaxy 2 Temporarily transforms Yoshi into Blimp Yoshi, temporarily causing him to puff up and float (similar to the Power Balloon).

Boo Mushroom Boo Mushroom Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2 Transforms Mario into Boo Mario, allowing him to go through fences and read Booish.
Boomerang Flower File:Boomerang Flower SM3DL artwork.png Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario 3D World Transforms Mario into Boomerang Mario, enabling him to throw a boomerang at enemies. The boomerang can also collect coins and activate Checkpoint Flags.
Boost Star File:Purplestar.png New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U Temporarily makes it possible to defeat enemies or break blocks by tapping them on the GamePad.
Bulb Berry File:SMG2 Bulb Berry Sprite.png Super Mario Galaxy 2 Temporarily transforms Yoshi into Bulb Yoshi, allowing him to reveal and stand on platforms that otherwise would not be there.
Buzzy Shell SMM-SMB-Buzzy-Beetle-Shell-Helmet.png SMM-SMB3-BuzzyBeetleShell.png SMM-SMW-BuzzyBeetleShell.png Super Mario Maker, Super Mario Maker 2 A Buzzy Beetle's empty shell, which can be worn by Mario to protect him from attacks from above, and to destroy Brick Blocks in the same way as Super Mario.
Cannon Box Artwork of the Cannon Box from Super Mario 3D World Super Mario 3D World Continuously fires chargeable cannonballs when worn, which can collect items and break cracked walls and Rock Blocks.
Cape Feather Feather.png Super Mario World, Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 (e-Reader-exclusive item), Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker 2 (Super Mario World style only) Transforms Mario into Cape Mario, letting him fly, glide, ground smash, and cape spin foes (similar to the Super Leaf).
Carrot Carrot sprite from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins Transforms Mario into Bunny Mario, letting him slow his descent or hover in midair.
Cloud Flower SMG2 Cloudflower.png Super Mario Galaxy 2 Transforms Mario into Cloud Mario, enabling him to create up to 3 cloud platforms (which are replenished by another Cloud Flower), make floaty jumps, and walk on clouds.
Coin Box Artwork of a ? Box from Super Mario 3D World Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario 3D World Grants Mario infinite coins (up to 100 coins in 3D World) when worn. Taking damage or clearing the level removes the box, rewarding an extra life in the latter case.
Copy Flower CopyFlower.png Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time Creates clones of the Mario Bros. and baby Mario Bros. (similar to the Double Cherry)
Dash Pepper File:SMG2 Dash Pepper Sprite.png Super Mario Galaxy 2 Temporarily transforms Yoshi into Dash Yoshi, causing him to dash at very high speeds.
Double Cherry Artwork of a Double Cherry, from Super Mario 3D World. Super Mario 3D World, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Transforms Mario into Double Mario, similar to the Copy Flower. There can be up to 5 clones of each player on screen.
Dry Bones Shell A Dry Bones Shell in the New Super Mario Bros. U style from Super Mario Maker 2 Super Mario Maker 2 Similar to the Goomba's Shoe but it can ground pound in its only version and does not have a big or winged version. It can also float on lava and poison. It also allows Mario to play dead and be invincible for a second.

Fire Flower SMG.png Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2 Temporarily transforms Mario into Fire Mario (for 20 seconds), letting him throw fireballs.
Frog Suit The Frog Suit. Super Mario Bros. 3, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Paper Mario: Color Splash Transforms Mario into Frog Mario, allowing him to swim faster in any direction and jump higher.
Gold Block Artwork of a Gold Block from New Super Mario Bros. 2 New Super Mario Bros. 2 Similar to the Coin Box, but grants Mario up to 100 coins when worn. Taking damage or clearing the level removes the box, rewarding coins in the latter case. Hitting a Gold Block from either side, above, or while wearing another one causes 50 coins to spout out instead.
Gold Flower Gold Flower artwork for New Super Mario Bros. 2 New Super Mario Bros. 2 Transforms Mario into Gold Mario, letting him launch golden fireballs, which explode with a small blast radius. Any enemies hit will give coins, depending on the number of enemies hit. These fireballs can also hit ? Blocks and turn Brick Blocks into coins. Taking damage, grabbing an Invincibility Leaf or Mega Mushroom, or clearing the level ends the Gold Flower's effect, reverting Mario to Fire Mario in the latter case.
Goomba Mask Artwork from Super Mario 3D World. Super Mario 3D World Disguises the player as a Goomba, allowing one to sneak by certain enemies.
Goomba's Shoe SMM-SMB3-Goomba'sShoe.png SMM-SMB-Goomba'sShoe.png SMM-SMB-HighHeel-Goomba.png SMM-SMB3-HighHeel-Goomba.png Super Mario Bros. 3, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker 2 (Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3 styles only) Lets Mario hop across spikes and sharp-toothed or spiky enemies, such as Munchers and Spinies, when ridden. Taking damage or clearing the level removes the Goomba's Shoe. A Stiletto variant is present in Super Mario Maker, as are big versions that can Ground Pound (Stiletto Ground Pounds break blocks) and winged versions that can Flutter Jump.

Hammer Suit The Hammer Suit. Super Mario Bros. 3 Transforms Mario into Hammer Mario, letting him throw powerful hammers and block enemies' fireballs by crouching.
Ice Flower Ice Flower File:Powerup-ice-flower-sm.png Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, Paper Mario: Sticker Star, Paper Mario: Color Splash Transforms Mario into Ice Mario, letting him throw Ice Balls.
Ice Flower Super Mario Galaxy Temporarily transforms Mario into Ice Mario, granting him fire immunity and letting him walk or skate across water and lava.
Ice Skate Artwork from Super Mario 3D World. Super Mario 3D World When the player is in an Ice Skate, they can skate on the ice, move quicker, and are also immune to certain enemies and spikes. However, they will not be able to stop moving, and if the player hits a wall or a Walleye, they will lose the item.
Invincibility Leaf Artwork of an Invincibility Leaf from New Super Mario Bros. 2 Super Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario 3D World Transforms Mario into White Tanooki Mario (Super Mario 3D Land/World) or White Raccoon Mario (New Super Mario Bros. 2), which grants him the Super Leaf's powers, as well as unlimited invincibility for one level; clearing a level reverts Mario to the normal Tanooki or Raccoon form, respectively.
Invincibility Mushroom Invincibility Mushroom Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Makes the player invincible for the entirety of a level, similar to the Invincibility Leaf.
Life Mushroom Life Mushroom Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2 Increases Mario's maximum health by three until the added health is lost.

Light Box Artwork of a Light Box from Super Mario 3D World. Super Mario 3D World Shines a light when worn, which can defeat ghostly enemies.
Lucky Bell A Lucky Bell from Super Mario 3D World. Super Mario 3D World Turns Mario into Cat Mario, but also lets him turn into Lucky Cat Mario with a Ground Pound. Lucky Cat Mario earns coins while falling, and is invincible.
Luigi's Cap Artwork of the Luigi Cap from Super Mario 64 DS Super Mario 64 DS Gives Mario, Wario, or Yoshi the abilities and physical appearance of Luigi.

Master Sword A Master Sword in Super Mario Maker 2 Super Mario Maker 2 Turns Mario into Link, enabling him to use his shield to block enemies and projectiles, bombs to hit switches and blow up blocks, and a bow and arrow to collect items or attack enemies. He is also able to use the sword to hit enemies, and use a dash attack with said sword and a down thrust in similar fashion to a Ground Pound.
Mega Mushroom Artwork of a Mega Mushroom in New Super Mario Bros. 2 New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Temporarily transforms Mario into Mega Mario, making him giant and able to destroy everything in his path. In Super Paper Mario, the character also becomes their Super Mario Bros. sprite in Mega form.
Mega Star File:MegaStar SPM.png Super Paper Mario
Metal Cap MetalCap.png Super Mario 64 Temporarily transforms Mario into Metal Mario, making him briefly invulnerable and heavy. He also doesn't need to breathe, which lets him resist toxic fumes and walk underwater.
Mini Mushroom Artwork of a Mini Mushroom for New Super Mario Bros. New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. 2, New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U Transforms Mario into Mini Mario, letting him walk on water, make floaty jumps, and enter tiny passages.
Mix Flower Mix Flower Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time Allows all the Bros. to throw fireballs to form a giant one.
Mystery Mushroom The Mystery Mushroom, in Super Mario Maker. Super Mario Maker (Super Mario Bros. style only) Transforms Mario into Costume Mario, giving him a random character's appearance, as well as the Super form's abilities, though this can only be used in the Super Mario Bros. graphical style.
P-Acorn P-Acorn New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U Transforms Mario into P Flying Squirrel Mario, which grants him the Flying Squirrel form's powers, but also lets him make infinite midair jumps for one level. Taking damage, grabbing a non-flight-based power-up, or clearing the level ends the P-Acorn's effect, reverting Mario to Flying Squirrel Mario in the latter case.
P-Wing P-Wing Super Mario Bros. 3 Transforms Mario into Raccoon Mario, but also gives him infinite flight for one level. Taking damage, grabbing a non-flight-based power-up, or finishing the level ends the P-Wing's effect, reverting his flight to normal in the latter case.
P-Wing Super Mario 3D Land Warps Mario to the end of a level.
Pal Pill File:PadPill SPM.png Super Paper Mario Creates eight small 8-bit versions of Mario, Luigi, Peach, or Bowser, which attack whatever enemies they come into contact with.
Penguin Suit A Penguin Suit New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U Transforms Mario into Penguin Mario, letting him slide on his belly, throw Ice Balls, and swim more freely (similar to the Blue Shell, Ice Flower, and Frog Suit respectively). He also doesn't slide while on ice.
Piranha Plant Artwork of a Piranha Plant from Super Mario 3D World. Super Mario 3D World, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Eats or bites other enemies and items when held.
Power Balloon P-Balloon SMW.png Super Mario World Temporarily transforms Mario into Balloon Mario, allowing him to float.
Power Flower Power Flower Super Mario 64 DS Works as a Power Balloon for Mario, a Vanish Cap for Luigi, a Metal Cap for Wario, and gives Yoshi fire breath.
Propeller Box Artwork of a Propeller Box from Super Mario 3D Land Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario 3D World Allows Mario to whirl up and slowly descend, similar to the Propeller Mushroom. Taking damage or clearing the level removes the box, rewarding an extra life in the latter case.
Propeller Mushroom A Propeller Mushroom New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, Super Mario Maker and Super Mario Maker 2 (New Super Mario Bros. U style only) Transforms Mario into Propeller Mario, letting him whirl up, slow descent, and drill (while in midair) to land faster.
Rainbow Star Rainbow Star Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2 Temporarily transforms Mario into Rainbow Mario, making him invincible (same as a Super Star: in the Super Mario Galaxy series, this is used instead in order to avoid confusion between a Super Star and a Power Star.)
Red Star A Flying Star from Super Mario Galaxy. Super Mario Galaxy Temporarily transforms Mario into Flying Mario, letting him fly freely by spinning.
Rock Mushroom File:SMG2 Rock Mushroom.jpg Super Mario Galaxy 2 Transforms Mario into Rock Mario, which lets him destroy enemies and objects by rolling into them.
Slow Flower File:SlowFlower SPM.png Super Paper Mario Temporarily slows down time; triples value of coins and points.
Speed Flower File:SpeedFlower SPM.png Super Paper Mario Temporarily speeds up time; triples value of coins and points.
Spin Drill Artwork of the  Spin Drill from Super Mario Galaxy 2. Super Mario Galaxy 2 An item that allows Mario to drill through dirt, which sends him to the other side of the planet he is on.
Spiny Shell A Spiny Shell, in Super Mario Maker. SMM-SMB3-SpinyShell.png Super Mario Maker, Super Mario Maker 2 A Spiny's empty shell, which can be worn by Mario to defeat enemies that fall on him and destroy ? Blocks and Hard Blocks in a similar way to Brick Blocks.
Spring Mushroom Spring Mushroom Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2 Transforms Mario into Spring Mario, letting him jump higher.
Statue Leaf Statueleaf.png Super Mario 3D Land Turns Mario into Tanooki Mario, but also lets him turn into Statue Mario with a Ground Pound (similar to the Tanooki Suit, but without flight or transforming on the ground).
Super Acorn File:WiiU NewMarioU 4 item01 E3.png New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Luigi U, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Transforms Mario into Flying Squirrel Mario, allowing him to glide and midair jump like Cape Mario, and cling to walls.
Superball Flower Superball Flower SMM2-SMB-SuperballFlower.png Super Mario Land, Super Mario Maker 2 (Super Mario Bros. style only) Transforms Mario into Superball Mario, letting him toss superballs. These bounce at 90 degree angles and can collect coins. The power-up reappears in Super Mario Maker 2, making Mario monochrome and playing Super Mario Land music.
Super Bell Super Bell Artwork - Super Mario 3D World.png Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Maker 2 (Super Mario 3D World style only) Transforms Mario into Cat Mario, allowing him to climb up walls and poles, sprint quicker, and slash enemies with his claws.
Super Crown Super Crown artwork from New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe Transforms Toadette only into Peachette until she takes damage, allowing her to Double Jump, perform Peach's Floating Jump, and automatically boost out of any pits she falls into (only once).
Super Hammer Hammer power-up Super Mario Maker 2 (Super Mario 3D World style only) Transforms Mario into Builder Mario, allowing him to use a hammer to break hard blocks and defeat enemies, as well as place Builder Boxes.

Vanish Cap Vanish Cap Super Mario 64 Temporarily transforms Mario into Vanish Mario; making him intangible and allowing him to walk through enemies, chain link fences, ice, & mirrors.

Weird Mushroom SMM-SMB-WeirdMushroom.png Super Mario Maker (Super Mario Bros. style only) Makes Mario a skinnier Super Mario, but with Luigi's physics, including jumping higher, but with worse traction.
Wing The Wing from Super Mario Bros. Special. Super Mario Bros. Special Temporarily allows Mario to fly through the air as if swimming.
Wing Cap WingCap SM64.png Super Mario 64 Temporarily transforms Mario into Wing Mario, letting him fly after doing a Triple Jump or being shot from a cannon. In Super Mario 64 DS, only Mario can do so in single-player, but any character can in multiplayer.

Yoshi's Wings Yoshi's Wings Super Mario World Transforms Yoshi into a Winged Yoshi, granting infinite flight for one level and access to Coin Heaven. The permanent wings disappear when the level is completed, but Yoshi becomes a Blue Yoshi (SNES version only).
