Super Mario series

Super Mario Bros. 2

• Instruction Booklet bio: It is a walking cactus. Its entire body, except for its head, is covered with thorns. Thorns will hurt you if you touch them.

Super Mario Advance

• Instruction booklet bio: These characters can be quite a thorn on your side. You'll find them in desert areas.

Super Mario World

• Mario Mania: Aptly named, Pokey sidles slowly sideways, puncturing whatever he touches. Take him down a notch with a shell, or use Yoshi to eat him up.

Super Mario Galaxy

• Trading card description: "Watch out for these cactuslike enemies in the Good Egg and Dusty Dune Galaxies. These creatures typically have three to five body segments that Mario must destroy individually. The green Pokeys are easier to defeat--just jump on their heads. The red ones are more challenging -- Mario must star-spin into each body segment."

New Super Mario Bros. Wii

• Trading card description: "Ouch! Pokeys are cactus-like creatures made up of prickly spikes. They have a strange habit of transforming from time to time. When they do, the spiny segments change to smooth oranges. This change allows Yoshi to eat this Pokey fruit salad. And when Yoshi devours a Pokey, an egg with a power-up will be hatched too!"

Tattle Log #: 54	Log	A cactus ghoul covered from head to base in nasty spines. It attacks by lobbing sections of itself at you, and can even call other Pokeys to fight alongside it.
	Tattle	That's a Pokey. It's a cactus ghoul that's got nasty spines all over its body. Max HP is 4, Attack is 3, and Defense is 0. Look at those spines… Those would TOTALLY hurt. If you stomp on it, you'll regret it. Pokeys attack by lobbing parts of their bodies and by charging at you… They can even call friends in for help, so be quick about taking them out.

If you eat the body, it will survive as long as its head remains, but if you eat its head, you can defeat it with a single blow. If you want to increase the number of eggs, eat the bodies one by one.)

Could easily be mistaken for a cactus, except for the eyes and the mouth, and the way they roll...er, stroll... around the desert with such careful balance. Check out the pretty flowers these guys are sporting in Super Mario Sunshine! (American English)
Pokeys are a bit like cacti, except with eyes and mouths, and they're made up of prickly balls piled on top of each other. It doesn't exactly make for the most stable body, so they have to wiggle their way around really carefully. Also, the ones in Super Mario Sunshine have pretty flowers on their heads. Definitely worth a look! (British English)
