This is a list of pre-release and unused content for the game Mario Kart 7.

Early builds

E3 2010 demo

  • Rock Rock Mountain and Mario Circuit didn't have a ramp where the glider could be activated. Also there were no ramps because Nintendo didn't confirm that tricks would appear in the game. As a result both Wuhu Loop and Mario Circuit didn't have ramps.
  • The pipes at Mario Circuit had different colors.
  • The Dash Panels were rainbow-colored, similarly to Mario Kart Wii's Dash Panels.
  • The design layout of Rock Rock Mountain was different. There were a few trees that are no longer there.

E3 2011 demo

  • The demo included the Spiny Shell with wings in the item roulette. In the final, it is replaced with the wingless version.
  • Several ramps in Rock Rock Mountain are not present. Additionally, there are more coins in the first turn before the cave, and the coin placement near the boulder area is different.
  • The coin placement in the pier of Cheep Cheep Lagoon is different, and there are no Crabs in the cave.
  • The Screaming Pillars in DK Jungle do not have the occasional scream. The coins just before the red flower are Item Boxes in the demo. There is an additional DK Barrel in the second turn leading to the red bouncy flower, and the bridge before the jungle area lacks guardrails. Also, there are no Frogoons in the jungle area. In the music, the organ was louder.
  • The music for the character-selection menu, the results screen and final-lap sound effect were all taken from Mario Kart Wii.
  • There are no Wigglers in Wii Maple Treeway.
  • There were two laps instead of three.

Gamescom 2011 Demo

Nintendo Press Conference 2011 Footage

  • The Lucky Seven doesn't have a checkered border. Said border is present in the final version.
  • Whenever it is the Final Lap, Lakitu's sign says Final Lap; in the final version, it says 3/3.
  • Kalimari Desert had more cacti in it.
  • Lakitu's sound effects were originally based off of his Mario Super Sluggers sound effects.
  • In the credits of the game (in the final version), after Mario reaches the first turn, there are more coins than usual. Coins were much more plentiful in general, in the E3 2011 build.
  • "King of Speed" sponsors are seen in Daisy Hills but were replaced by "Princess Daisy" sponsors in the final.
