Klumps are large, obese members of the Kremling Krew. They are typically used as ground troops.

History

Donkey Kong Country/Land series

Donkey Kong Country

Klumps first appear in Donkey Kong Country as a semi-common enemy. Due to their helmets, Klumps cannot be hurt by some attacks (such as Diddy Kong jumping on him). Klumps can only be harmed by either a frontal attack (such as Diddy's cartwheel), Donkey Kong jumping on them, the aid of an Animal Friend, or by having a barrel thrown at them.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest

In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, enemies similar to Klumps called Kannons appear. According to the manual, these enemies are Klumps dressed like pirates. Kannons also appear in Donkey Kong Land 2.

Donkey Kong Country novel

An individual Klump appears as an antagonist in the Donkey Kong Country novel. In the first chapter, Klump leads a Kremling squad to take Donkey Kong's Banana Hoard and encounter Diddy Kong. Diddy manages to cartwheel into Klump but he is eventually subdued by the Kremlings and sealed inside a barrel, which Klump promptly kick across the jungle. He then makes off with the bananas.

Klump reappears in the final chapter. When the Kongs board the Gangplank Galleon, Klump taunts Diddy, but the monkey cartwheel into him, sending him overboard.

Donkey Kong Country TV series

General Klump in the Donkey Kong Country animated series

In the Donkey Kong Country animated series a single Klump, aptly named General Klump, is one of King K. Rool's generals. Despite his fearsome appearance, Klump was actually a big softy on the inside.

Donkey Kong 64

Klumps make a reappearance in Donkey Kong 64. Here, they are much larger and have an odd pinkish coloration. They can attack the Kongs physically and throw unripe, green Oranges. They can also be seen eating their Oranges, which is comically followed by an explosion in their stomach, causing them to burp. Although the Kongs can attack Klumps with their direct attacks, they can only truly be defeated by using a shock wave attack, an Orange, a musical instrument, or by having Chunky Kong touch them while in his Hunky Chunky state. Klumps are found in Jungle Japes, Angry Aztec, Gloomy Galleon, Fungi Forest and Hideout Helm. They appear during the day in Fungi Forest, and are replaced by Bones at night.

A Klump is shown near the end of the DK Rap as he finishes it by throwing an Orange Grenade. One Klump (possibly General Klump) can be seen in the intro to the game, and is King K.Rool's henchman who accidentally sends a Kritter and Kasplat flying away after reporting for duty. He explains to his master how they have "already taken care of business" by kidnapping Chunky, Lanky, Tiny, and Diddy Kong in different parts of the island. However, K.Rool overrules him hoping he is right this time.

Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast

Klump is an unlockable playable character in the game Donkey Kong: Barrel Blast. His appearance has changed, as he wears a wooden bucket on his head, green camo pants, and is dark brown in color, as well as being larger than King K. Rool. He attacks by slamming his opponents with his belly. His bongos are brown with a metal ring on their midsections and bucket handles on their tops. He is the rival of Lanky Kong as suggested by their stats and is unlocked by completing Candy's Challenge 16: Beat Klump!. He has very high speed, but low boost and poor agility.

Trivia

  • The beta version of Donkey Kong Country had Klumps being resistant to Donkey Kong's jump attacks. In the final game, Klumps were only resistant to Diddy Kong's jump attacks, while Donkey Kong can defeat them with any attack method.
  • A Klump was playable in a 2003 build of Diddy Kong Pilot, a game that would go on to be canceled, and rebranded as Banjo-Pilot. He had high speed and weight and a low acceleration.
  • The image of Klump chasing Lanky shows it taking place in one of the barns of Fungi Forest. However, when playing the game, not one Klump is encountered in the barn(s).
