King Boo's Haunted Hideaway is a board from Mario Party 8. It is a haunted house-themed board set at night, and is unique in that the player can constantly see only a few spaces ahead of his or her character, even when viewing the map, which only lets the player see into the rooms that have been entered. The board also changes each time it is played in a new game. King Boo is the main attraction, and will be hiding somewhere in the mansion. There are three sanctums in the mansion, but only one will have King Boo, whereas the others are pitfalls. Players that enter a sanctum with a pitfall will cause mini Red Boos to toss them in the pitfall, taking them back to the start of the board. Red Boos also run the Candy Shops on the board as well. When a player finds King Boo, he gives them a Star for 10 coins. He then "summons the bizarre", which rearranges the board, sends everyone back to start, and begin the search again. Whomps are also present, and players who want to pass them must trade a 10-coin fee. If the player trades 10 coins, the Whomp will move to block the other path and the player can take a shortcut either to King Boo or a pitfall.

Landing on DK Spaces causes Donkey Kong to appear and use his platforms to block the pitfalls. The first player that reaches him receives a free Star from him. The Bowser Space works oppositely, in that Bowser takes away a Star from the player, and then he or she falls in the pit (in Star Battle Arena, Bowser will steal half of the player's coins). If the player has no stars, Bowser grudgingly gives the player 10 coins. After a player encounters Donkey Kong, Bowser, or gets a star from King Boo, the pitfalls return to normal. The Lucky Space takes the player to the second floor, where there is a small path of Blue Spaces each one with three coins. At the end of the path is a Warp Pipe which takes the player directly to King Boo's room.

The ? Spaces in front of Piranha Plants make the plants chew on players for 10 coins. ? Spaces next to mirror cabinets transports another player to the space. The ? Space next to Mowz lets the player steal candy, coins, or a Star from another player via pinball. ? Spaces next to shaking chests open the chest, giving the player candy, 20 coins, or Red Boos that take 10 coins from the player depending on the gameplay and their amount of coins.

In the Star Battle Arena, the winning conditions are to get 2 Stars by finding King Boo twice by trading 10 coins for a star each time. Here, the mansion stays the same, and areas that were revealed stay that way even when players went back to start after finding King Boo.
