Template:Event-infobox Javelin Throw is an Athletics Event that appears in the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The aim of the event is to throw the javelin as far as possible, with the game placing a specific focus on the angle that it is thrown at. The starting world record for this event is 98.48m, and the Olympic record starts at 90.57m.

Javelin Throw appears in the story mode as part of the first and second challenges in Wild Ones Episode 2, Corner the Koopa King!, in which Knuckles must beat Bowser. In the first challenge, it appears as the third part along with Hammer Throw and Football, while in the second challenge it appears as the second part along with Tennis (Singles) and Boxing. It also appears in both challenges for Wild Ones Bonus 2, The Life of a Minion, in which Bowser must beat Knuckles in the first challenge along with Hammer Throw, Football, Boxing and Wrestling - Freestyle, and Vector in the second alongside Double Trap, Football, Weightlifting and Rings.

Gameplay

The event starts by telling the player the ideal angle of the line they need to draw on the touch screen to throw at. The angle is decided based on the wind speed and direction, with higher wind speeds requiring larger offsets from the 45° angle, and different directions affecting whether the offset is above or below. The player's character will then automatically run up to the throwing line and yellow, orange and red sections are marked on the ground to show how close to the line they are. Throwing the javelin close to the line will give the player a further distance, with an extra boost given for throwing it right before. Failing to throw the javelin of throwing after the character has crossed the line will result in a foul and no distance will be recorded. To throw the javelin, the player must raw a line diagonally up to the right on their touch screen at what they think is the angle indicated. Drawing the line closer to the suggested angle will give the player a greater distance, however the touch screen features no indication of the angle and the player is only told at what angle their line is drawn at afterwards. One the javelin has landed, the distance is measured by Charmy and the player is then told their score. The player only gets one attempt at this event.
