Individual epée is a Fencing Event that appears in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. It is set in the Fencing Hall, National Conference Center. The aim of the event is to win a set number of points before the opponent within a limited amount of time. Toad and Cream appear as referees in this event.

Gameplay

In this event, the player enters a four-person tournament, where they initially play a qualifying match against a random opponent, and depending on the results of this match, either enter a final match against the winner of the other first match, or a third-place match against the other loser. The gameplay remains the same for both matches. In each match, the player must attempt to touch the opponent to score points and reach the required number of points before their opponent and within the time limit. The player can move left and right using Nunchuk Control Stick, and can move faster by quickly moving Nunchuk Control Stick twice in the desired direction. To score a point, the player must perform a thrust when close enough to the opponent by thrusting the Wii Remote forwards. If the thrust touches the opponent, the player will score a point. If both characters thrust simultaneously, the epées will meet in the middle and neither character scores the point. The player can block thrusts from the opponent using a parry, which is performed by pressing A Button and swinging the Wii Remote. The player can also perform feints by swinging the Wii Remote and pressing B Button, which causes the opponent's parry to fail. If time runs out before the end of the match, the character with the most points will win.

The player is able to set the time limit in this event to either one, two, three or five minutes or unlimited, as well as the number of points required to win, with the options of one, five, ten, fifteen and twenty.
