History

Super Smash Bros. series

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The Gunship has a minor role in the Subspace Emissary in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. When the Subspace Gunship destroys the Halberd, the Gunship, along with the Falcon Flyer, Hocotate Ship, an Arwing, and a Dragoon with Kirby on top escape the explosion and attack the Subspace Gunship, flying through the portal to Subspace opened to bring the Subspace Gunship through.

A first-person view from the Gunship in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, the Gunship appears as Zero Suit Samus's Final Smash, replacing Power Suit Samus from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. When used, Samus calls the Gunship and leaps inside; from there the player can blast opponents with twin laser cannons, aiming the targeting reticle with the Control Stick. After some time has passed or five shots have been fired, the move automatically ends and Zero Suit Samus drops back down to the battlefield. In addition, the Gunship appears during Zero Suit Samus's stage intro, dropping her off onto the stage.

Nintendo Land

The Gunship also appears in Nintendo Land in the event Metroid Blast. During the event, the player controls a Mii dressed as Samus, using the Gunship to shoot several mechanical enemies. In multiplayer mode, the player using the Wii U GamePad will take control of the Gunship and either attack or work alongside the other Miis walking on the ground.

The Gunship makes a cameo in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in the background of the stage Busted Bayou. This is not only a reference to the Metroid series, but also to the fact that Retro Studios, the game's developer, previously worked on the Metroid Prime series.

This compact ship is used by Samus as her base of operations. Of course, Samus can't fly it into the catacombs of every planet she visits, so she leaves it on the surface as her sanctuary. Samus can recharge her Power Suit inside the ship, so it tends to be the only safe and secure spot on inhospitable alien terrain.

Samus has been on numerous voyages in the gunship, but after being attacked by an X parasite in Metroid Fusion, she crashes into an asteroid belt and destroys the craft. After that, the Galactic Federation provides her with a new starship.

N/A NA: Samus's spaceship carries her through space and serves as her base of operations during her missions. Zero Suit Samus will call down and board her Gunship with her Final Smash. Once she's in the pilot's seat, she has a short time to unleash up to five powerful shots from the ship's weapons. Foes aren't safe even hiding off-screen!

PAL: Samus's Gunship is her way of travelling through space and her base of operations when exploring hostile planets. In Zero Suit Samus's Final Smash, she can use her Gunship to fire powerful beams at other fighters, hitting them multiple times, even if they're hiding off-screen! At least they can be thankful it doesn't go on forever.

NA: The one partner Samus can rely on in almost all of her missions. In the wide unknown of outer space, she can always return to the Gunship for a safe haven. It allows her to replenish all of her energy and ammunition and even serves as a resting spot for the player. It sounds just like a save point, doesn't it?

Trivia

  • The Gunship appears as a station in the 2010 version of Nintendo Monopoly (although going by its Metroid Prime 3: Corruption design). It takes the place of Pennsylvania Railroad, originally held by the Blue Falcon in the 2006 version, and costs $200.
