Goal door (Wario Land series)
Goal doors[1] are a special kind of doors that appear in most of the Wario Land games. Their appearance changes greatly through the various installments, but they all have in common that the player can exit a level through them. Along with their appearance, the way to access a goal door is also different from game to game.
Appearances
Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
The goal doors in this game serve as the regular level exit. Wario has to enter them in order to clear the level. The goal door looks like a regular door, but it is covered by a large skull-like emblem with an embedded coin slot. Wario first has to throw a 10 Gold Coin into the coin slot, which will make the skull emblem move away. The player can then make Wario enter the goal door to complete the level. Goal doors can be found in every level except for boss stages, where they get replaced by doors leading to the boss. Sometimes there is more than one goal door in a level. Entering such a door results in Wario finding a hidden stage, or sometimes a whole new world.
Wario Land II
Goal doors reappear in the sequel of Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. Wario has once again to find these doors to complete the respective level. Goal doors look different than before. They have a row of four flashing stars above them and play a happy, recognizable tune. Goal doors appear in the majority of the stages, but not in all, since some levels require other conditions to be met (like defeating the Giant Spear Man). Sometimes a level has a secret goal door that will unlock a new set of levels when entered.
Wario Land 3
Goal doors appeared in Wario Land 3 as well, though they were not as important as they were in the previous two installments anymore. In this game, Wario has to find one of four treasures hidden in the stage to complete the level. The treasures are locked away in differently colored treasure chests. The only way to open them is to find the key that matches the chests color. After Wario has found the treasure he can revisit the level to look for the remaining treasures. The treasure chests that have been opened already get replaced with doors that work in a similar way as goal doors, as they transport Wario out of the level. These doors are surrounded by pink bricks and glow slightly.
