The Gloomy Manor is the first mansion Luigi visits in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. This mansion is similar to Luigi's Mansion from the first game and is a standard, run-of-the-mill haunted mansion in the middle of a storm. It is here that Luigi acquires the Poltergust 5000, the Strobulb, the Dark-Light Device, and the second Dark Moon piece. The sub-bosses are three Poltergeists, and the main boss is a giant purple spider that has been possessed by the Grouchy Possessor, which is located in the Cellar. The manor has three floors and a basement and features five standard missions, a boss mission, and a bonus mission that is unlocked after the player collects all the Boos in the manor.

HistoryEdit

Not much is known about the Gloomy Manor besides that it is abandoned. Professor E. Gadd was using this mansion to observe the ghosts before the Dark Moon shattered. During the time E. Gadd spent studying the ghosts, he made modifications to the mansion, running pipes and wires throughout it. A statue of E. Gadd can be found in the Patio, suggesting that he owned the mansion at some point.

I, Professor Elvin Gadd, had been observing the ghosts living in this Gloomy Manor, when suddenly the Dark Moon broke into pieces and the ghosts got all hostile-like!

A-2: Gear Up
Now that you're properly equipped, let's find those Dark Moon pieces! Paranormal readings are stronger in the north rooms of the Gloomy Manor, so we should start out search there. Activate the mechanism in the Foyer to access the north rooms of the Gloomy Manor.

Pesky ghosts have stolen the gears to the mechanism in the Foyer! Search the west wing of the Gloomy Manor, and recover all four gears.

A-3: Quiet Please!/Quiet, Please!
According to the Parascope, the ghostly activity in the north section of the Gloomy Manor is increasing! Now that you've recovered the gears, we should be able to investigate. Use the crank to operate the access mechanism in the Foyer. Once that's done, proceed north through the Gloomy Manor and investigate the music in the Library.

A-4: Visual Tricks
Criminy! Someone's been casting illusions in the Gloomy Manor! We'll need my Dark-Light Device to see through this hooey. I'm pretty sure I left it in the Lab. Someone has been releasing Spirit Balls and making things disappear! Retrieve the Dark-Light Device from the Lab, and find the culprit.
  • Find the Dark-Light Device.
  • Capture whoever is releasing the Spirit Balls.
 
A-5: Sticky Situation
Clean up those darn spiderwebs! They're blocking our progress AND they ruin the furniture AND they're just plain gross! Spiders have infested the Gloomy Manor and filled it full of webs. Destroy every last web with the Poltergust 5000!

Boss: Confront the Source
This paranormal reading is off the charts! I don't know what's down in that Cellar, but it's not happy. Why don't you...uh...investigate? Take the elevator to the bottom level, and then investigate the Cellar and find the origin of the strong paranormal signal.

Bonus: Gradual Infiltration
We have an...interesting situation. The Parascope is picking up mild paranormal signals in the manor. I'm sending you in to investigate. A group of ghosts have returned to the Gloomy Manor! Catch all of the ghosts as quickly as possible.

Luigi's Mansion 3Edit

In Luigi's Mansion 3, there are several references to its predecessor, including a model of the Gloomy Manor found on the 15th and final floor of The Last Resort.

In the Master Suite's Library, there is a puzzle where the player must spin a pinwheel to spin around an area of the room to create the correct path. Among the choices is a side with a model of the Gloomy Manor and the Dark Moon above it. When the player first examines this, a short clip will play, with suspenseful music as the camera gets closer and closer to the mansion, only for a Golden Goob to pop out of it. It can be examined only once.

Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo ChallengeEdit

In Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge, the Gloomy Manor, as well as its surroundings, forms the setting of Mini Luigi's stages, contained in a world called Moonlight Mansion. The dilapidated fish fountain at the left of the front yard, along with the polygonal alley, sharp bar fences, and light poles with rough spiraled designs, retrieves its decorative roles around the Gloomy Manor.
