Get Along, Little Apey is the thirteenth episode of the first season of Saturday Supercade's Donkey Kong segment. The title is a reference to the cowboy ballad "Git Along, Little Doggies".
Plot synopsis[edit]
While pursuing a sweltering Donkey Kong through a desert, Mario and Pauline's circus van suddenly breaks down. Mario then attempts to catch Donkey Kong on foot, but both of them collapse from heat exhaustion at the very moment Mario makes contact with Donkey Kong. Pauline then suggests they call a temporary truce to obtain the money needed to repair the van and collect bananas for Donkey Kong, to which he and Mario agree. As Mario wonders how to obtain said money, Donkey Kong points to a sign advertising cash prizes at the Greenhorn Texas Rodeo, and decides to enter into the rodeo.
At the rodeo's signup location, two shady participants, Hoss and Coach, gloat about their assured victory, only to buckle in shock at Donkey Kong's presence. Hoss attempts to dissuade Donkey Kong from entering the rodeo, but when he calls Donkey Kong a "yellow-bellied, lily-livered, chicken-hearted gorilla sissy", Donkey Kong is so offended that he shoots two bananas in Hoss's cheeks, pulls his hat over his head, and throws him back over to Coach, causing them both to fall into a water trough. As they get back up, they notice Donkey Kong's affections towards Pauline and decide to use that to their advantage.
While waiting for the rodeo to start, Mario and co. decide to relax at the One Star Saloon. Inside, Donkey Kong practices his lassoing, then does a partner dance with Pauline, using his lasso to knock Mario into a table. Coach uses a female disguise in order to replace Pauline as Donkey Kong's partner. When Hoss fails to lasso Pauline into his grasp, Pauline runs off and cries for help. Donkey Kong throws the tabletop Mario fell on to the cowboy duo, causing them to fall onto a bucking machine, which they use to kidnap Pauline in cartoonish fashion. An arrow is then thrown on a nearby pillar, with Donkey Kong noticing a ransom note stuck to it. An angered Mario and Donkey Kong then give chase to find Pauline.
At the rodeo's location, Mario and Donkey Kong notice pounding on some nearby barn shutters, and both climb the nearby ladder to find a bound and gagged Pauline. After freeing her, the cowboy duo notices them and attempts to stop them. In response, Pauline tosses Mario and Donkey Kong some barrels to use on the duo; Donkey Kong manages to hit Hoss, while Mario uses his barrel to "roll" into Coach, which causes them both to be knocked into a nearby well. The rodeo's announcer then calls Donkey Kong's number, causing Donkey Kong and Pauline to run to the event. Hoss decides to employ one more cheap tactic.
As Donkey Kong emerges from his assigned gate and begins winning over the announcer, the cowboy duo open all of the other gates at once, releasing the other livestock onto the field. Pauline warns Donkey Kong, causing him to lasso a weak fence towards him. He then throws out the planks from the fence to corral the out-of-control animals. The cowboy duo attempts to flee in their pickup truck, but Donkey Kong overturns the truck with another lasso. The announcer walks up to name Donkey Kong as the victor and hands over the prize money and banana bunch, with an ecstatic Pauline hugging him. Mario then calls the temporary truce over, causing Donkey Kong to run off and ride a bull. Mario attempts to lasso him, but is dragged out into a saguaro cactus and writhes in pain.
