Freestyle Skiing Moguls is a Freestyle Skiing Event that appears in Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The objective of the event is to score as many points as possible by performing turns and tricks on the moguls, with the event taking place in the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. Toads and Chao appear as a referees in this event.

Gameplay[edit]

To start this event, the player must swing the Wii Remote down when "Go!" appears onscreen, and can perform a starting dash by swinging it with the perfect timing, though doing so to soon will cause the character to stumble and perform a delayed start. The player can also charge up extra power for a starting boost by holding and releasing the button with the right timing. Once the character begins the course, the player can turn around the moguls by tilting the Wii Remote left and right, and will score more points more making better turns around the moguls by moving with the right timing. When the character approaches a jump, the player must swing the Wii Remote upwards to cause the character to jump, and can perform better jumps by swinging the Wii Remote upwards closer to the end of the ramp, giving the player more time to perform tricks in the air. The player can perform tricks by moving the Wii Remote as shown onscreen, and can perform up to five tricks on each jump, always ending with a character's special trick. The player an gain a speed boost upon landing by swinging the Wii Remote downwards as the character comes back into contact with the snow. The course features three sets of moguls, with two jumps between the sets. Once the player has completed the course, they will receive a score as well as ranking from C to A+ for Turns, Speed and Air, which will be combined to form their total score for the event. The character with the highest combined score wins the event.

  1. Start
    Let's go over how to start.
    A moment after "Ready" appears, the "Go!" signal is given.
    To start, swing the Wii Remote Plus when the "Go!" signal is given.
    Time your swing with the "Go!" signal for a starting dash.
    Try practising the start now.
  2. Turning
    Let's talk about turning.
    You will see moguls on the course. Use the red line on the moguls as a guide, and tilt the Wii Remote Plus left or right to turn.
    Perform this action when the tips of your skis hit the red line to go over the bump smoothly.

  3. Jumping / Tricks
    Let's talk about how to jump and perform tricks.
    To jump, swing the Wii Remote Plus up at the end of the jump ramp.
    Jump at the very end of a ramp to perform a large jump.
    Try jumping now.
    To perform a trick, strike the pose shown on the right of the TV screen.
    When the pose shows a hand waving around, wave your hand in the same way.
