Deku Babas are carnivorous plant enemies from The Legend of Zelda series that first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Deku Babas have made a few Super Mario-related appearances, making a cameo in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a sticker and later appearing as an obstacle in Mario Kart 8's The Legend of Zelda x Mario Kart 8 downloadable pack and the base game of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Deku Babas are a Venus flytrap-like species, like Piranha Plants, although Shigeru Miyamoto has once mentioned that Deku Babas were designed by crossing a dog with the Super Mario 64 enemy clam;[1] their original behavior of lunging while being restrained by their stem is highly similar to Chain Chomps, also inspired by dogs, while their original model's head shape resembles a more cylindrical, front-tapering version of the clam's model.

In Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, two Deku Babas appear as enemies in a section of Hyrule Circuit, after the exit of Hyrule Castle near the end of the course. They are designed after their appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and they behave the same as Piranha Plants do in GCN Yoshi Circuit. If a racer drives near a Deku Baba, it lunges at them, attempting to bite them, knocking them over should they be hit. The Deku Babas periodically switch between four different positions.
