Template:Level Criss Kross Cliffs is the thirty-seventh level in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Game Boy Advance game, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! It is also the second area of the lost world, Krematoa. In the game's Game Boy Advance remake, the level is instead the forty-third level.

In order to get to the top of this cliff level, the Kongs have to bounce on steel kegs blasted upwards by a Bazuka at the bottom of the area. There are parts of the level where the Kongs must use Switch Barrels to turn the kegs into TNT Barrels in order to defeat red Buzzes that are in the Kongs' way. The Kongs must then hit the Switch Barrels a second time in order to restore the kegs so they can continue upwards. Re-Koils, Buzzes, Klasps, and Kuff 'n' Klout appear in this level.

In the European and Japanese versions of Donkey Kong Country 3, there are more red Buzzes than in the American version.

Level Layout

When the level begins, the Kongs find the letter K above them and ride along some steel barrels being shot from below. They are taken to a higher level, where they find a DK Barrel. Moving farther up, they hit a Switch Barrel to defeat a red Buzz, then hit it again to turn the TNT Barrels back into steel barrels. Continuing upwards, they find another red Buzz in the way, whom they should defeat by climbing up several wooden platforms nearby and hitting a second Switch Barrel. Once the Buzz is defeated, the Kongs are able to bounce to the next area with the barrels, where they jump into a Barrel Cannon and automatically hit a Switch Barrel. It turns the steel barrels into TNT Barrels, which the Kongs need to avoid. They pass the gap with the TNT barrels shooting upwards and climb upwards, using some wooden platforms. They move across the gap with the TNT Barrels again to find a switch, which turns the barrels back into steel barrels. The Kongs ride up the barrels and move through a large area, followed by a small alcove. If they get in this alcove, they find the Star Barrel.

About halfway into the level, the Kongs find a fork in the road. Taking the left passage makes them head past some Kuff 'n' Klouts, while heading to the right makes them climb up some horizontal tightropes, avoiding Klasps. The two paths later meet. The Kongs ride up the mountain with more steel barrels and pass the letter G, found in another small alcove. Heading left, the Kongs go to the top of the area with some platforms and defeat a Buzz by using a Switch Barrel. If they move farther up at this point, they are taken to another area, where they will find a Barrel Cannon. It shoots them to a set of tightropes to climb. Once they get up the ropes, they move along more kegs to be taken to a part of the mountain with more horizontal tightropes. After they jump up from the two ropes, they hit a Switch Barrel to defeat a red Buzz in their path. Soon, the Kongs find the End of Level Flag.

Secrets

Bonus Levels

  • At the beginning of the level, the Kongs can ride upwards on some kegs to find a wall of two red Buzzes to the right. They can bounce over these enemies or using Dixie's ponytail twirl to land in a Bonus Barrel. It leads the Kongs to a Bonus Level, where they collect fifteen green bananas while avoiding a vertically-firing Bazuka, who fires TNT Barrels. Once they collect enough bananas, they can find a Bonus Coin nearby.
  • After finding the Koin, the Kongs can ride up on the barrels and enter an open area. They can travel to the right to find a Bonus Barrel high up. Using the Team-up move, Kiddycan throw Dixie into the barrel. This sends them both into a Bonus Level, where they ride upwards on some barrels to find five Knik-Knaks. Once they beat all the Knik-Knaks, they can find a Bonus Coin to the right.

DK Coin

  • After the letter G, the Kongs can climb up the area and hit a switch to change the steel kegs into TNT Barrels. This defeats a nearby red Buzz. Then, the Kongs can change the TNT barrels back into steel barrels and begin to climb back down to ride upwards on the steel kegs. If they stay to the right while riding on the barrels, they enter a small alcove with the Koin, who has the DK Coin. If they stand on the Koin's shield and throw a nearby steel barrel, the barrel will bounce off of the wall and hit the Koin in the side.
