Corrin is the main protagonist and avatar unit from the Fire Emblem trio of games, Fire Emblem Fates, first released in Japan in June 2015. Corrin was born as a member of the Hoshido kingdom royal family, but was kidnapped and raised by the royalty in the Nohr kingdom. The game revolves around the avatar as they are given the choice to join the side of either Hoshido or Nohr, or join neither side and instead head to the kingdom of Valla to destroy the entity who created the war between Hoshido and Nohr. The male and female versions of Corrin are voiced by Cam Clarke and Marcella Lentz-Pope, respectively.

Corrin is a newcomer to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and like Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Robin in the game, the player can choose to play as male or female Corrin. Corrin was released internationally as downloadable content on February 3, 2016, 16 days before Corrin's debut games were released in America and three months before their release in Europe and Australia. Unlike other DLC newcomers, there is no exclusive new stage to download alongside Corrin; however, two new songs, the original and an arranged version of the main theme of Fire Emblem Fates, "Lost in Thoughts All Alone," are added to the Coliseum and Castle Siege stages instead, and two other trophies of his foster older brother Xander and his real older brother Ryoma from Fire Emblem Fates are added only in the Nintendo 3DS version. Much like Robin, Corrin's design can be customized in the debut games, though uses the default design in the Super Smash Bros. series.

Corrin's primary weapon is the Omega Yato, the final form the Yato blade takes in Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation. However, as in Fire Emblem Fates, Corrin can partially transform some parts into a dragon for various attacks, giving those attacks range. Corrin's standard special move is Dragon Fang Shot, which transform Corrin's arm into a set of fangs that fire a chargeable water ball that stuns foes for a brief time. Dragon Lunge is Corrin's side special, in which Corrin jumps and thrusts a transformed arm into a spear-like weapon downward. Corrin's up special, Draconic Ascent, uses a pair of wings to help recover. Corrin's down special is Counter Surge, which is a counter move that fully transforms Corrin to counterattack. Corrin's Final Smash is Torrential Roar, which turns Corrin into a dragon to catch opponents, followed by a stream of water that blows any character caught in the Final Smash away.

In terms of equipment options, Corrin can use the Sword, Cape, and Shoes equipment. Corrin is the only Fire Emblem character to not use Boots for equipment.

Corrin is set to reappear as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Corrin's moveset is largely unchanged, but the third hit of his standard attack is now an outward slash, his pummel is a kneekick, and his back aerial has a greater push effect.

Dragon Fang Shot is Corrin's standard special move. Corrin turns his hand into a dragon's mouth, which fires a ball of water that can stun the opponent for a brief time, then follows up with a chomp attack. The move can be charged by holding down the attack button, which increases the duration of the stun effect and the damage the follow-up attack deals.

Dragon Lunge is Corrin's side special move. Corrin leaps into the air, and by pressing the special move button again, Corrin's arm extends into a large spear; if used in the air, Corrin immediately uses the spear attack. If the move is used near the ground or a wall, the spear sticks to it for a period of time, which also holds any opponents caught by him in place. While in place, the player can input left or right on the control stick or the press the attack button to have Corrin kick in that direction, or press up or the jump button to jump (though this move cannot be used again until landing).

Draconic Ascent (originally called Dragon Ascent, and still named as such in PAL territories and in Tips in all regions) is Corrin's up special move. Corrin sprouts a pair of dragon wings and flies a short distance into the air, dealing continuous hits to opponents caught in the attack as he flies up. The angle of Corrin's ascent can be controlled by inputting on the control stick before he takes off, though taking off horizontally loses vertical distance.

Counter Surge is Corrin's down special move. Similar to the Counter used by other Fire Emblem characters, Corrin braces himself for an attack, and when struck, fully transforms into dragon form and stomps the ground, counterattacking with jets of water that strike opponents from both sides, and launching them vertically.

Corrin's counterattack deals 1.2x the damage of the blocked attack, with a minimum of 10% damage. In update version 1.1.4, the counterattack multiplier was originally 1.3x before being weakened in version 1.1.5.

Torrential Roar is Corrin's Final Smash. When activated, Corrin stomps on the ground, creating two pillars of light on both sides of him. Opponents caught in these lights or by Corrin himself are brought to a rocky area where Corrin transforms into his dragon form and creates a large whirlpool, damaging and launching the opponents. Corrin then returns to the battlefield in his human form.
