Template:Species-infobox Conkdors are reoccurring bird enemies in the Mario franchise. Their name is a portmanteau of "condor" and "conk", which refers generally to a hit on the head, which fits their method of attacking. They are blue and white birds with long necks, toucan-like beaks, a tuft of black hair and purple goggles. Their appearances and attack pattern are based on the myth that ostriches bury their heads in the sand when stressed. They also have a purple spiked shell, protecting their backs from being stomped.

History

Super Mario series

Super Mario 3D World

Conkdors first appear in Super Mario 3D World. Similarly to Thwomps, these enemies stand still on a certain spot (except in Sprawling Savanna Rabbit Run, where some are seen walking about), waiting for a player. Once one gets near it, it slams its beak on the ground, which can cause damage to the player. However, doing this leaves their neck and head exposed, and both can be jumped on to defeat the enemy. Conkdors can also rotate, following the player. Their beaks can be used to break Rock Blocks as well. Their glasses can be knocked off by tapping a Conkdor's head with the touch screen of the Wii U GamePad. They appear in Conkdor Canyon, World 2's Mystery House, Sprawling Savanna Rabbit Run, The Bowser Express and Rolling Ride Run.

Super Mario Maker 2

Conkdors reappear in Super Mario Maker 2 as part of the background in the desert theme in the Super Mario 3D World style, where they are seen slamming their heads into the ground.[1]

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker

Conkdors reappear in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, behaving the same as they did in Super Mario 3D World.

Mario Party series

Mario Party: Star Rush

Conkdors reappear in Mario Party: Star Rush. They are featured in the minigame, Conkdor de Force. In this minigame three Conkdors are on a center platform that spins around every round depending on which buttons are pressed. When the platform stops spinning the Conkdors slam their beak down. If a player is hit by a Conkdor's beak they lose a hit point.

Super Mario Party

Conkdors reappear in Super Mario Party in the minigame Rattle and Hmmm, where they strike the ground twice when they perform.

Mario Tennis Aces

Conkdors reappear in Mario Tennis Aces, where a Conkdor is a spectator in the Bask Ruins court.
