Coin Battle is a mode in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. U, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. Being a multiplayer-only mode, it puts emphasis on collecting coins in exclusive levels or levels from the main game. The goal is to collect the most coins out of all the other players.

In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Coin Battle is selectable from the game's main menu. It is up to two to four players. Every course from the main game is selectable, although the worlds have to be visited once in the main game in order to play them in Coin Battle.

In New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Coin Battle returns and can be selected from the main menu. Like in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, every course in the main game is playable in Coin Battle, and there is even a set of exclusive courses. Unlike New Super Mario Bros. Wii, however, players can be grouped into different teams (such as one versus three, two versus two or free-for-all) and pitted against each other. The Wii U GamePad player also has the option of setting up custom coin layouts in other courses, which then can be played by the players with Wii Remotes. Also unlike New Super Mario Bros. Wii, players have unlimited lives and the coin counter has been removed. Coin Battle does not reappear in New Super Luigi U, like the other game modes.
