A Chewy is a green-headed, purple-leaved and stemmed Piranha Plant, though its artwork depicts its stem as green, that can be found throughout Bean Valley in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Chewies have roots that seemed to have evolved into primitive legs, giving them the ability to walk and run. Chewies can be quite nasty in packs and are usually accompanied by Shy Aways and other enemies. In battle, they use HP siphoning attacks like Drain and Mega Drain. They can also use the attack "Pollen Nap", which can put Mario or one of his allies to sleep. They can dish out a large amount of damage with high attack and magic attack.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Chewies are mentioned briefly by Viridi during Palutena's Guidance dialogue for Piranha Plant.

Trivia

  • Outside of battle, they share the same color as ordinary Piranha Plants; likely due to this reason, the Bean Valley section of the Nintendo Power guide mistakenly calls them Smilaxes, which is a separate enemy with the same overworld screen sprite.[1]
