“You're no sucker! Smart players don't rely on luck! They change their fate with Candy! Eat Candy before you hit your Dice Block to trigger one of many effects!”
MC Ballyhoo, Mario Party 8

Candies are special items found in Mario Party 8. Replacing the Orbs of Mario Party 6 and Mario Party 7, players can collect and eat the Candies found throughout the boards to either help themselves or hinder the progress of their opponents. Upon eating a Candy, the player is granted a specific ability for their current turn. Their physical appearance may also change. A single player can hold up to three candies, while a two-player team can hold up to five. If a player has too much candy, they have to discard one of their candies to make room for the new one.

While free Candies can be earned by passing over Candy Areas, there is no way to determine which Candy a player will receive upon crossing one. However, players can also visit Candy Stores, where they may purchase a Candy of their choice in exchange for coins. Unlike the Orbs and Capsules of the three previous installments, Candies cannot be thrown onto Blue Spaces and Red Spaces to create Character Spaces or roadblocks; as such, they instead function like the items from the first, second, third, and fourth installments in the Mario Party series.

Additionally, the grand prize awarded to the winner of the Star Battle Arena is a year's supply of Candy.

Types of Candy

Red Candies

Red Candies affect the Dice Block.

Twice Candy

Twice Candy allows the player to use two Dice Blocks instead of one when eaten. If both dice roll the same number, they get 10 coins. Rolling two "7's" gives the player 30 coins. It costs 5 coins to buy in the shop.

Thrice Candy

Thrice Candy allows the player to use three Dice Blocks instead of one when eaten. If they roll the same number, they get 30 coins; rolling three "7's" gets the player 100 coins. It costs 15 or 20 coins to buy in the shop.

Slowgo Candy

Main article: Slowgo Candy

Slowgo Candy allows the player to be able to hit a Dice Block that scrolls through the numbers more slowly, but the numbers allowed to be hit are 1-5 instead of 1-10. The Candy is useful when the player is near a special space, such as a Lucky Space or a DK Space. It costs 10 or 15 coins in the shop.

Green Candies

Green Candies affect the player and/or the other players just before the player hits the Dice Block.

Springo Candy

Springo Candy.jpg
Main article: Springo Candy

Springo Candy allows the player to move freely to another player's space. The player must first throw a dart at a wheel with the other characters' faces on it. Depending on who the dart hits, the player will spring (using their spring-like body) to that player's space. In Tag Battle Mode, the player can only select one of the players on their opposed team. After that, the player will hit the Dice Block. It costs 10 or 20 coins if bought at a shop.

Vampire Candy

Vampire Candy allows the player to turn into a vampire-like version of themselves and steal coins from other players. First, the player must throw a dart at a wheel, with the section it lands on determining how many coins they will steal. Teammates cannot have their coins stolen in Tag Battle Mode. It costs 10 coins if bought at a shop.

Cashzap Candy

Main article: Cashzap Candy

Cashzap Candy allows the player to attack a player and destroy their coins, but not steal them. The player must throw a dart at a wheel with the other characters' faces on it, and, depending on who the dart hits, the player will attack that other player with lightning, causing them to lose half of their coins. It costs about 15 or 20 coins to buy.

Yellow Candies

Yellow Candies affect the player and/or the other players while the player moves across the board.

Bowlo Candy

Main article: Bowlo Candy

Bowlo Candy allows the player to turn into a ball version of themselves (similar to Mario's form in Mario Pinball Land), and is able to steal 10 coins from each player (except their own teammate on Tag Battle Mode) which they hit while moving across the board. It costs 5 or 10 coins if bought at a shop.

Bloway Candy

Main article: Bloway Candy

Bloway Candy allows the player's legs to turn into a mini-tornado and sends any opponent they touch while moving across the board back to the start. It costs 10 coins if bought at a shop.

Bitsize Candy

Bitsize Candy
Main article: Bitsize Candy

Bitsize Candy allows the player to turn into an 8-bit version of themselves. While moving across the board, the player can hit a block from each space they pass that releases 3 coins. This is useful for collecting enough coins to buy a Stars up ahead, such as in DK's Treetop Temple, King Boo's Haunted Hideaway, Shy Guy's Perplex Express, and Koopa's Tycoon Town. It can only be found hidden on a Candy Space.

Weeglee Candy

Weeglee Candy.jpg
Main article: Weeglee Candy

Weeglee Candy allows the player to turn into three tiny versions of themselves, and is able to steal a random Candy from each player they pass by while moving across the board. If one passes a character with no candy, nothing occurs. It cannot be bought from shops and can only be obtained from Candy Areas.

Blue Candies

Blue Candies are similar to Yellow Candies, but blue ones have a much greater effect on other players.

Thwomp Candy

Thwomp Candy.jpg
Main article: Thwomp Candy

Thwomp Candy allows the player to turn into a stone head, and any players they pass by while moving across the board each lose half of their coins. It costs about 10 coins if bought at a shop.

Duelo Candy

Duelo Candy.jpg
Main article: Duelo Candy

Duelo Candy allows the player to duel the first person they encounter while moving across the board. Whoever wins the duel minigame gets to throw a dart at a wheel with coins and Stars. Depending on what the dart hits, the loser gives coins or Stars to the winner of the minigame. After Dueling, the player ends their turn on that space. It costs 10 or 20 coins if bought at a shop.

Bowser Candy

Bowser Candy allows the player to transform into Bowser, hit two Dice Blocks, and steal two Stars from each player that they pass. This Candy is only found in Bowser's Warped Orbit. It costs 15 or 20 coins if bought at a shop (10 coins for last place players).

Bullet Candy

Bullet Candy

Bullet Candy allows the player to transform into a Bullet Bill-like version of themselves, hit three Dice Blocks, and steal one Star from each player they pass by. This Candy is only found on Bowser's Warped Orbit. It costs 15 or 20 coins if bought at a shop (10 coins for last place players).
