Bonus Coin (Donkey Kong franchise)

Template:Item-infobox Bonus Coins are golden coins that appeared in the games Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III. Bonus Coins can be earned by completing Bonus Levels. Only one Bonus Coin can be earned per bonus level; the Kongs cannot earn another coin for completing the same Bonus Level twice. Bonus Coins are similar to the Kremkoins from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and Donkey Kong Land 2. Both are earned for completing Bonus Levels and both are needed to access the Lost World of their respective regions. The symbol on the Bonus Coin is the same symbol that is printed on the Bonus Barrels.

History

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

In the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, there are a total of 85 Bonus Coins. In the Game Boy Advance port, there are a total of 98, due to Pacifica and Kroctopus being added. Bonus Coins can be given to Boomer, one of the Brothers Bear, allowing the demolitions expert to destroy the boulders that block access to the various levels of Krematoa for 15 Bonus Coins apiece. The Kongs must pay 25 Bonus Coins to Boomer, or 26 in the Game Boy Advance re-release, for him to break the boulder blocking off the path to the final level, Rocket Rush.

Each level has two Bonus Coins, but there are a few levels in Krematoa that have three Bonus Barrels, and Rocket Rush has none. Also, some bosses have a Bonus Coin in their possession.

There is a way to get all Bonus Coins without going through bonus levels:

• In the SNES version, at the Select Game menu, the player should highlight a saved game and press , then enter WATER. The player then needs to go up to the waterfalls left of Bazaar's General Store, and enter the Banana Bird Cave. The player will receive 85 Bonus Coins if they succeed.
• In the GBA version, the player needs to go on to the game selection screen's "Cheat" menu, under "Options", and type "AQUA" in the field below. Afterward, the player must start a new file to be equipped with every Bonus Coin.

Donkey Kong Land III

In Donkey Kong Land III, there are a total of 78 Bonus Coins. In this game, the Bonus Coins are meant to be given to Bear's Sheepy Shop. Paying Bear a certain number of Bonus Coins, the amount of which differs by the world, will allow the player to play a Memory game. Oddly, the amount of Bonus Coins is not depleted from the player's count upon paying to play the Memory game.

Collecting all of the Bonus Coins will also unlock the Time Attack mode.
