Template:Levelbox Black Ice Blitz is the tenth level in the classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color game, Donkey Kong Land III. Located in the mountains in the northern part of the Primate Plains, it is the fourth level in this area.

During the first snow level in the game, Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong have to ride a Toboggan through a series of snowy plateaus, jumping over pits and chasms. The sections of snow-capped chalets can serve as additional, but, small, platforms, causing more danger through the level. Skiddas, Krimps and Knik-Knaks are standing in the Kongs' way throughout this level, but they can easily be defeated by being crushed by the heavy toboggan. The most dangerous enemies here, though, are Buzzes, since they cannot be jumped on with the toboggan, unlike in the similar game, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

Noticeably, Black Ice Blitz is very similar to another level, Tearaway Toboggan, from the SNES counterpart to Donkey Kong Land III, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! Black Ice Blitz, however, is considered to be much shorter and easier.

Overview

Black Ice Blitz
Dixie Kong slides down the roof of a cabin.

At the beginning of the level, the heroes immediately end up in a few Blast Barrels that fire them into a toboggan. The toboggan begins to move upon being entered and pull the Kongs into a house. The monkeys must act fast and jump over the house, grabbing the letter K. After this, the heroes need to cross a few small abysses. Jumping at the wrong time in an area like this, and the Kongs might land right into a pit. If they get through this area, though, the monkeys enter a more flattened area, where they need to defeat some Krimps with the heavy toboggan. At some point, the group have to cross a few more pits while watching out for Buzzes. If they get through this part of the level, they eventually reach a small slope. The monkeys need to jump at the top of it to collect the letter O. After riding up and down a few more slopes and hopping over some enemies, the heroes make it to the Star Barrel.

About halfway through the level, the group ride along a straight path and travel past a house to land into a low area of land. There, they get the letter N, and then have to jump out of the area quickly to avoid hitting into the wall. After this, the apes ride down a large slope and have to jump over a small gap. Afterwards, they find a few Knik-Knaks to bounce on. If they can bounce off of the bugs correctly, they land over the few walls of snow. Once this is all done, the heroes need to dodge a few Buzzes on the path and ride around a few slopes under a Buzz. After passing a Skidda from there, Dixie and Kiddy ride up a pyramid shaped slope and find the letter G. Shortly after, they ride up another large slope to find a sign. When they pass this sign, the toboggan disappears. Farther on, the Kongs, now on foot, find a flagpole. They exit the level once it is touched.

Bonus Levels

  • Once the monkeys lose the toboggan, they must head backwards and pass the area's second Krimp to find a small gap. Inside the gap, they find the first Bonus Barrel. Jumping into the barrel, they end up in a Bonus Level, where they need to ride in a toboggan and grab many stars in ten seconds. This can be tough, however, as the area is full of baddies, and if the heroes pass even one star, they will be unable to go back and get it. Once all the stars are collected, a Bonus Coin appears at the end of the bonus.
  • At the end of the level, the monkeys need to get over the flagpole with through a barrel to find a Koin. The monkeys have to pass up the foe is they want to find the Bonus Level and head to the very end of the stage, where they see a lone banana. If they jump to the left of this banana, they land in a hidden Bonus Barrel, taking them to another Bonus Level. There, they need to run along the tops of a few houses and find some barrels. If they jump into one of them, it will shot them into a chain of other barrels. The last barrel fires them into the Bonus Coin.

DK Coin

Black Ice Blitz
Dixie Kong stands on top of the level's Koin.
  • At the end of the level, the Kongs must get over the flagpole through a hidden barrel to find the level's Koin. This foe has the DK Coin, and he has to be defeated for the monkeys to get this coin. Though his shield protects him from almost all attacks, the heroes are able to use a Steel Barrel, found to the right, to beat him. This can be done by throwing the barrel into a wall of snow while standing on the Koin's shield. While the Kremling is distracted, the barrel will bounce back and hit his side, defeating him and giving the Kongs the DK Coin.

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: On top of the first house.
  • O: Shortly after two Buzzes, the "O" is above a gap housing a Kobble below.
  • N: After two Krimps in a row, the "N" will be just before a plateau.
  • G: Found to the right of a sliding Skidda.
