Fruit (Yoshi food)
Template:Rename Template:Item-infobox Berries[1] (also referred to as Apples[2], Nuts[3], Fruit[4][5], and Yoshi Fruit[6]) are fruit found in Dinosaur Land, but have also made appearances elsewhere. Yoshis can eat them and, depending on the color of the berry, get some kind of item.

Super Mario series
Super Mario World
In Super Mario World, Yoshis can eat berries for a value of one coin. Yoshi eats them when he is in contact with them or grabs them with his tongue. Three kinds of berries can be found in this game. Red-colored berries give Yoshi a Super Mushroom if he eats ten in the same stage (in the Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 version, a Red Yoshi will get a Fire Flower, Blue will get a Cape Feather, and Yellow will get a Super Star). Pink berries cause a coin-throwing cloud resembling Lakitu's Cloud to appear if he eats two in the same stage. The cloud gives a 1-Up Mushroom if he collects all ten of the smiley-faced coins it drops. The rare green berries, found only in Funky (and the intro level at the start of the game), add 20 seconds to the timer. It is also possible to softlock the game by eating a berry and collecting a powerup at the exact same time.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Red Berries also appear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where they serve the same role. Every five Berries Yoshi eats makes him produce an item. The item that Yoshi yields depends on the power-up that Mario is using when Yoshi eats five berries. The beta elements feature a Yoshi cookie, equivalent to 5 Yoshi Berries. Pokeys also transform into a non-spiked form with every single "bah" in the music. In this form, Yoshi can eat them for coins or a power-up, much like berries.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
The red Berries reappear in Super Mario Galaxy 2, whose manual simply refers to them as Fruits. They are grown on the ground instead of shrubs as in previous games, and can be squashed and destroyed by Mario with a Ground Pound. Yoshi can eat berries to earn Star Bits. If ten berries are eaten, the player receives one life. The game also features large golden berries that are more difficult to pull, and Yoshi has to hold on to them with his tongue for a few seconds before he can eat them. The golden berry gives a Launch Star and five Star Bits when eaten. This game also has a power-up called a Bulb Berry. When Yoshi eats a Bulb Berry, he glows bright and can illuminate otherwise invisible ground.
New Super Mario Bros. U
Red Berries reappear in New Super Mario Bros. U, where they behave like in their previous appearances. A meter appears after Yoshi has eaten a berry which shows how many berries he has eaten.
Super Mario Odyssey
Berries reappear in Super Mario Odyssey, where they are found in the Mushroom Kingdom and in secret areas reached from the Dark Side. Mario can capture Yoshi, allowing him to eat Berries. Whenever a Berry is eaten, a meter appears, and a Power Moon appears when the meter fills up. More than one Berry can be collected at once if Yoshi's tongue is extended towards them. Upon returning to an area with Berries, Berries that were collected previously are replaced by translucent Berries, and give the player a coin when collected. Berries can also be found in Warp Pipes, and Yoshi must eat them so Mario can enter the Warp Pipe.
Yoshi's Safari
Berries reappear in Yoshi's Safari, referred to as Nuts in the game's manual.[7] When used during boss battles, Yoshi flashes gray and takes half damage for a limited time. When not used at all, 2,000 bonus points are added to the player's highscore.
Paper Mario
In Paper Mario, there are several types of Berries in Flower Fields. Red Berries, Blue Berries, Yellow Berries, Bubble Berries, and Crystal Berries all appear in the game. The Crystal Berry is a key item, and the other four are regular items.
Strawberries also appear in the Peach segment between chapters 4 and 5 (when Peach has to bake a cake for Gourmet Guy).
Mario Kart 8 / Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
In Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, berries make cameo appearances in N64 Yoshi Valley and GCN Yoshi Circuit. Along with Yoshis that make appearances, there are trees that bear berries for Yoshis to eat.
Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition
Berries appear in Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition and are referred to as "Fruit" in the American version. They are special Skill Items that raises the Skill levels of all Yoshi and Winged Yoshi colors, and all types/forms of Koopa Troopas, Koopa Paratroopas, Buzzy Beetles, and Para-Beetles. They can be earned by opening up ? Blocks; winning them from the Lucky ? Blocks game at Toad Houses, or from Para-Beetles and all Koopa Paratroopas with a 10+ Combo attack. A rare version of Fruit exist as Rare Fruit.
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
Berries reappear in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, where Mario, Luigi, and Paper Mario must give one to a famished Wiggler in Gloomy Woods, allowing him to get enough energy to break through trash in the forest. The trio must then collect ten more berries spread around the area, along with a melon, after Wiggler becomes worn out after rampaging through the trash. A Paper Paratroopa tells Mario that Bowser loves berries. At the beginning of the mission titled "Yoshi Rush", the Yoshi eats three berries, creating Yoshi Eggs.

Trivia
- The pink Berry strongly resembles the Bean Fruit from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
- On the Mario Kart DS course, Shroom Ridge, there are berry ads on the trucks.
- In the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack in Minecraft, Apples are replaced by Berries.
