Beehives serve as homes for bees. Although there are many appearances of bees' homes as worlds, level themes, or background elements, there are some beehives that various characters can interact with to obtain a desired result.
HistoryEdit
Donkey Kong 3Edit
Beehives technically first appear in Donkey Kong 3, where the titular ape proceeds to knock on them to dispatch the bugs in greenhouses (either with his fists, as is the case in the blue and gray greenhouses, or via coconuts, in the case of the yellow greenhouse). In the yellow greenhouse, Stanley also forces Donkey Kong into a beehive at the top, which then falls onto his head. In the arcade version, Donkey Kong, upon the beehive falling onto his head, then twitches and scrambles to get the beehive off, only to fall down to the ground, with the beehive then splitting open and revealing that Donkey Kong's face is partially swollen, with his right eye being puffy (heavily implying that Donkey Kong had been stung by the beehive's occupants).
Yoshi's StoryEdit
Beehives serve as a recurring obstacle in Yoshi's Story. The Baby Yoshis must walk slowly or sneak past the hive, as going too quickly will result in the bees becoming agitated and forming a hand that halts them from going any further and orders them to go back. If a Baby Yoshi hits the hive with an egg, the bees will form a fist and hit them.
Mario Party seriesEdit
In Mario Party 2, Mario Party: The Top 100, and Mario Party Superstars, beehives appear in the minigame Honeycomb Havoc. They are present among the fruits, and anyone who obtains one is swarmed by bees, eliminating them.
Paper MarioEdit
In Paper Mario, a beehive appears in the Forever Forest in the area where Mario finds the HP Plus Badge. If Mario uses his hammer attack on the beehive, it will cause an angry Bzzap! to come out and fight him.
Super Mario SunshineEdit
Beehives also appear in Super Mario Sunshine. The bees only get angry if Mario gets too close to the beehive or Mario knocks it down by squirting it. Once that happens, the bees attack Mario. The bees will retreat once the beehive reappears after a short amount of time. Having Yoshi eat the bees grants Mario a coin for each one, but a Blue Coin or a 1-Up Mushroom is rewarded from the last bee eaten. Once all bees are eaten, the beehive will still reappear but with no bees to occupy it.
Donkey Kong Jungle BeatEdit
In Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, beehives (known here as Stinga Combs[1]) are an obstacle in several levels. If clapped at, the comb will reveal some Stingas.
Super Smash Bros. seriesEdit
The beehive from the Animal Crossing series appears as an item in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. When thrown on the ground, a number of bees emerge from the beehive and swarm around a random opponent, constantly dealing a small amount of damage, as well as damaging any nearby opponents, before they disappear. If the beehive hits a specific player, then the bees target that player. The beehive can also be attacked and destroyed, which results in the bees targeting the player that destroys the beehive.

If the bees are after you, you can shake them for a while with some evasive maneuvers, but they'll track you down. | Bees don't like it when people destroy their home, so if you break a beehive, they'll come out looking for revenge.
