Beach Volleyball is a Court & Field Sports Event that appears in the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The objective of the event is to be the first to score three points against the opponent.

This event appears in the game's story mode as the first challenge of Girls Episode 1, Morning in Hyde Park, in which Daisy and Amy must beat Fog Imposters of Peach and Blaze. It also appears as the challenge of the final episode Girls Bonus 3, The Real Beginning, in which Peach and Amy must beat Bowser and Dr. Eggman.

Gameplay

In this event, the player must select two characters from the Girls category and competes against a team formed of the other two characters in the category, as well as a pair of Koopa Troopas and Chao, who are not seen but are competed against in the event. The serve initially starts on the player's side, which changes to the side of the team who lost the point after each point is scored. The player must press A Button once to serve the ball to the other side. In this event, the characters move automatically, although the player has a choice of different shots and moves they can perform. Once the ball is sent back to their side, they must always receive the ball by pressing A Button with the right timing, although they may also block two-touch attacks by pressing B Button as the ball approaches the net. Once the player has received the ball, they can either use B Button to attempt a two-touch attack when the ball glows rainbow colored, which will be sent back as a powerful pass with flame effects if done with perfect timing, or can simply pass it back to the other player. If a two-touch attack fails however, they still have the opportunity to be able to perform a simple pass. If a simple pass is performed, the ball will go back to the character who first received it and the player must press A Button when it glows to send it back to the other team. A rally count is kept throughout the event which shows how many times the ball has been passed forwards and backwards between teams for each time a point is scored. Also, unique to this event, after each point is scored, the two characters on the winning team will be shown high fiving each other before performing one of their victory poses.
