The Banana Hoard is Donkey Kong's bounty of countless Bananas. These are stored in caves underneath his tree house.

History

Donkey Kong franchise

Donkey Kong Country

At the start of Donkey Kong Country, Diddy Kong is posted to guard the Banana Hoard. King K. Rool sends his minions to steal the Banana Hoard for unknown reasons, also capturing Diddy Kong. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong then make it their mission to retrieve them one by one by battling each of K. Rool's bosses, and they eventually succeed.

Donkey Kong Land

To see if their adventures are also successful on the original 8-bit Game Boy, Cranky Kong arranges for the Kremlings to steal the Banana Hoard once again for Donkey Kong Land. Donkey and Diddy Kong manage to defeat King K. Rool once again and get their Banana Hoard back.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

The Banana Hoard itself does not appear in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, but it still plays a major role in the storyline. After K. Rool's defeat in the first game, he decides to kidnap Donkey Kong and hold him for ransom, demanding the Banana Hoard in exchange for Donkey Kong's safe return.

Donkey Kong 64

The Banana Hoard is once again stolen, this time to slow Donkey Kong's progress. New types of bananas are introduced; each playable character has a different color to collect. This is also the first official appearance of Golden Bananas, which are shiny treasures of unknown origin. After K. Rool is defeated, Donkey Kong waits for Cranky Kong to arrive as he places the final touches on the restored Golden Banana Hoard, but he ends up falling asleep before placing the last one on the hoard, due to Cranky taking a long time to get to DK's position.

Donkey Kong Country Returns

The Banana Hoard being stolen by the Tiki Tak Tribe

The Banana Hoard returns and makes its latest appearance in Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. Many Tikis hypnotize the animals of Donkey Kong Island to steal them (as they act as resources to reproduce the Tiki tribe) and Donkey and Diddy Kong must retrieve it back and defeat Tiki Tong to fill their Banana Hoard once again. After defeating Tiki Tong once and for all, the Volcano that he has been occupying erupts bananas that were presumably the Banana Hoard, with several of them also hitting one of the statues and activating them to summon the Golden Temple.

In the Club Nintendo adaptation of Donkey Kong Country, Diddy is seen guarding the Banana Hoard like in the game. However, he appears to be unhappy about it and is guarding it in the rain.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The Banana Hoard in Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The Banana Hoard once again appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl's story mode, the Subspace Emissary. Bowser sends out a Hammer Bro and a Goomba to steal the bananas. Donkey Kong started to chase them. When he finally gets out of The Jungle, he still cannot catch them as they drive too fast and was too far from him. The Goomba jumps to two Bill Blasters which fired three Bullet Bills toward Donkey Kong. Diddy Kong then jumps out of the jungle and uses his Peanut Popgun to stop them. They keep following them. They eventually reach the banana hoard but discover that they have walked into a trap, as Bowser transforms Donkey Kong into a trophy.
