First appearance Mario Paint (1992)
Latest appearance Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS (2016)

The Baker is a figure who first appears in Mario Paint as an Easter egg, alongside his unnamed brother. Mario Artist: Polygon Studio reveals that he has been managing a bakery for 50 years, and is famous for printing messages on slices of bread. In almost all of his appearances, the Baker is seen doing either push-ups or pull-ups while his brother assists him.

HistoryEdit

Mario PaintEdit

The Baker and his brother first appear in Mario Paint in a sequence that plays upon starting the game, in which the Baker does sit-ups while his brother holds his feet. After a few seconds, the Baker does a handstand and the sequence ends.

Mario Artist: Polygon StudioEdit

The Baker and his brother both return in Mario Artist: Polygon Studio with slight redesigns: both of them have smaller, oval-shaped heads, and the brother's hat color is changed to red. In the Experimental World, the Baker is an unseen figure who leaves messages for the player on slices of bread in large pop-up toasters. The Baker's identity is not revealed to the player until they manage to reach the Sky Garden, where a message from the Baker's brother (marked with his face) states the Baker left the bakery in his brother's care while he went on a journey to train his body.

Both the Baker and his brother can be met in-person, the former by traveling very far away from the main overworld and the latter by traveling to the highest point of the map. The Baker resides in a small, dark, red-tinted cage containing nothing but himself and a message stating that he turned into a polygon from training too hard. His brother, on the other hand, resides on a grassy platform with heavenly vocals playing in the background, containing roughly the same thing. In both of these rooms, the Baker and his brother can be collected for later use in model assembly. They are classified as "special" blocks that serve no purpose outside of decoration.

On top of all of this, the Baker and his brother will occasionally appear in a sequence similar to the one from Mario Paint when the game is started.

WarioWare seriesEdit

WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!Edit

In WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, the Baker appears in Level 3 of I Came, I Saw as the object hidden inside the log. Rather than reusing their sprites from Mario Paint, new sprites based on their Mario Artist appearance are used.

WarioWare: Twisted!Edit

In WarioWare: Twisted!, the Baker appears in the third level of Boomerang! as the object the player must throw and catch using the gyro controls. He also appears in Level 3 of Red Delicious? as the object inside the apple.

WarioWare: D.I.Y.Edit

Like in its similar I Came, I Saw from WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, WarioWare: D.I.Y.'s I Saw It! may have the Baker appear inside the sawn log, doing sit ups before performing a handstand.

WarioWare: Move It!Edit

In WarioWare: Move It!, the Baker and his brother can appear on the title screen.
