The Aurora Block

“It's a rare block. Its presence has long been celebrated by denizens of the Star Realm. That is an important thing, for if you are able to find the Aurora Block and strike it... I will acknowledge the green man of mustache's courage and cooperative spirit.”
Star Temple gate, Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

The Aurora Block is a rainbow-colored block used in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. It has the ability to grow to match the size of the heart of the person who strikes it, and it is celebrated in the Star Realm. The Star Temple gate tasks Mario, Luigi, Baby Mario, and Baby Luigi to find the Aurora Block, due to Luigi not passing his test of worthiness.

When they find the block, Luigi is unable to hit it, with the block moving out of the way whenever he tries. The Star Gate thus asks Luigi who found the block: him, Mario or the babies. After three attempts to give an answer, the gate angrily says that the correct answer was the fourth, "Everyone!", then accuses Luigi of lying for pointing out the contradiction. After Luigi bursts into tears, Mario angrily objects and defends his brother, saying that he was not lying. However, the Star Gate reveals that the task is just a test to measure their brotherly togetherness, and he then allows Luigi to hit the block, causing it to turn gigantic and comically flatten him, as it becomes as large as the heart of whomever hit it.
