Archery is an Event that appears in the Nintendo 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The objective of the event is to score the most points over three ends. The playable characters in this event are Mario, Wario, Birdo, Sonic, Silver, Sticks and Mii, with Sticks being unlocked by beating her in Archery Plus on the third day of Sonic's story in the Road to Rio mode.

In the Road to Rio mode, Archery appears as the event on day 3 of Sonic's story.

Gameplay[edit]

In this event, the player shoots three ends at distances of 30m, 50m and 70m. On each end, the player shoots one test arrow and three scoring arrows. To shoot the arrows, the player must first draw the bow by pressing and holding either R Button or A Button, and continue to hold it until they are ready to release the arrow. The player will then be shown a view of the target with a white circle around the edge to indicate where the player is aiming. The circle will be large and will move around more at first, though the longer the player takes to shoot the arrow the smaller and steadier the sight becomes. The player can also move this circle by moving the system around to better aim their shot. The player has five seconds to release the arrow after drawing, which is done by releasing R Button, though if they fail to release within this time the player's time will be up and they will not score any points for that arrow. The arrows are scored going outwards from the centre, with 10pt(s) being scored for either of the inner two gold rings, with the amount of points decreasing by one for each ring going outwards after that, with no points being awarded for missing the target entirely. The test arrow is not scored, but the three afterwards are, with the player's total score and placement in the event being given after each end. The character with the most points after all three ends is the winner.

Advice[edit]

  • You can draw your bow with A Button as well as the R Button.
  • The wind doesn't change direction during the event, so fire a practice shot to check how it affects your arrows.
