- The Pleiades spaceship in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is named after the Pleiades, a cluster of stars in the constellation Taurus.
- The appearance of the Killer Tomatoes and the way they are defeated (by being crushed) may be based off the hit B-movie Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and its many sequels.
- Mysteriously, Tippi seems to have known Dimentio before the events of Super Paper Mario. She recognizes him immediately on their first encounter in the game, during the dialog shortly before Mario battles Fracktail.
- Onett's name is from the fact that it is the first town that Ness visits in Earthbound, thus Onett. All the other towns get their name from the order Ness visits them; they are Twoson, Threed, and Fourside.
