The Super Mario Wiki was created on August 12th, 2005, 13:47 EDT. On August 12th, 2006, this wiki was off to a good start, but still there was only a small amount of active users. On Saturday August 11th, 2007 with a userbase finally forming, we celebrated our wiki's existence with an awards show on 30 of our favorite Mario topics, including favorite games, music, items, series, moments, enemies, and more.

Now with NUMBEROFUSERS users and counting, that time is approaching again. An amazing <u>62</u> voted on our first awards last year, but before actual voting gets underway, we need all the help we can get  &ndash; and that possibility comes with the Awards Committee.

During the Awards Show next month, the ceremony will reveal 40 award results based on these 90+ voters' opinions in a forum thread. However, to spice up the show, instead of making it plain, you get to customize 2 award results to your liking [you must be both a forum user (to actually do it in the ceremony thread) & a wiki user (to sign up here), sorry guests]. What can you do? Remember that the idea is to have an Oscar-like presentation with all the big stars (us!) who made this wiki what it is today coming. Suggestions:

*You come on the stage to announce the results, using your writing style and even having other members commenting/insulting you while giving out the nominees, even interrupting you. Here you can respond back and make a big funny script out of it.

*Have a Mario character come out to present the award (i.e. let Marioverse characters interact with us). There's some nice possibilities here &ndash; having users interrupt the character to ask it questions, for example.

<h2 style="color:black">Tournaments</h2>
Starting around August 8th, two tournaments for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and one Mario Kart Wii will be available for entry. Thus contestants can enter a total of three tournaments, however, it is not necessary for contestants to join all of them.
<showhide>__HIDER__<show>
<h3 style="color:black">Super Smash Bros. Brawl</h3>
A Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament will be taking place during the anniversary. Sign-up is welcome to anyone, although it is recommended that contestants are at least good enough to beat a level 9 computer.
The banned items list (for Team Tournament):
*Containers [includes exploding containers, which can mess the match up]
*Blast Box [characters with fire attacks have the advantage to set this off]
*Maxim Tomato [recovery is too great and easy to get]
*Heart Container [recovery is too great and easy]
*Home-Run Bat [too strong when swung and thrown]
*Fan [Fan spamming can rack up over 50 damage]
*Hammer [too strong and disadvantageous for the user on moving stages]
*Golden Hammer [too strong and disadvantageous for the user on moving stages]
*Ray Gun [certain characters with bad recovery (e.g. Ike) can't survive against a barrage of Ray Gun shooting]
*Bob-omb [sometimes found in clusters, which can give a free KO]
The rules for the singles tournament are:
*4 stock.
*No items (including NO Smash Balls).
*All stages are allowed. However, if a contestant is afraid that a gimmicky stage will be chosen, the contestant may consult the other contestant on a good stage choice.
*Win 2 out of 3 to advance to the next round.
*Contestants are not limited to one character and may change characters after each match.
*Up to two contestants can be entered from one Wii. To prevent people from creating a "back-up" contestant, the two contestants from one Wii may be tested in a standard battle to see if the other person in the tournament is real.
*If a contestant stalls the match on purpose, the contestant will be disqualified.
*If lag is an issue, the match will still be continued as normal and will not be an excuse to forfeit the match. If the lag is due to a moving stage, the match can be moved to a non-moving stage for less lag.
*No illegal techniques like infinite chain grabbing or suicide win.
Although optional, matches can be viewed. This means that up to two other people will be able to watch the actual match without interfering with it. However, if the match starts to lag, we can kick the spectators out.
There is a secondary tournament, one for doubles. However, this will take place after the singles tournament and most of the rules are the same. The rules for the doubles tournament are:
*5 stock.
*All items allowed, but only on low-medium. Some items are banned and items CANNOT be turned off unless they are on the banned item list, or be put on high. Item choice has to include every non-banned item in the game and no item in particular can be turned off.
*All stages are allowed. However, if a contestant is afraid that a gimmicky stage will be chosen, the contestant may consult the other contestant on a good stage choice.
*Contestants are not limited to one character and may change characters after each match.
*Friendly Fire is ON.
*Win 2 out of 3 to advance to the next round.
*Up to two contestants can be entered from one Wii. To prevent people from creating a "back-up" contestant, the two contestants from one Wii may be tested in a standard battle to see if the other person in the tournament is real.
*Contestants are allowed to pair up with any other contestant, as long as it is okay with both contestants. If a contestant joins the team tournament without a partner, he will paired off with another contestant based off of results in the singles tournament. However, if a contestant did not enter in the singles tournament, he or she will be pair up with another random contestant. If two contestants share the same Wii, they can also automatically join to be on the same team, although it is not required to do so.
*If lag is an issue, the match will still be continued as normal and will not be an excuse to forfeit the match. If the lag is due to a moving stage, the match can be moved to a non-moving stage for less lag.
*No illegal techniques like infinite chain grabbing or suicide win.
