Template talk:!
when this happens, what you do is
{{bob|1=[[Jesus|Mario]]|2=kitten}}
Use the actual variable numbers to let it know what you want used for the variables. --Steve (talk) 18:00, 11 October 2006 (EDT)
In the {{#if}} switch, I have found it necessary to use this trick when it is inside of tables. Wa TC@Y 22:38, 2 February 2007 (EST)

Difference[edit]
Is there a difference between using this template and simply using the "|" key? Hello, I'm Time Turner.
- Old reply, but for the sake of settling this talk page, the pipe (|) wasn't a MediaWiki magic word, so, taken from MediaWiki, it is "used to include a pipe character as part of a template argument or table cell contents." I think the pipe character itself used to mess up the syntax when you're creating templates with parameters like infoboxes by treating it as a parameter divider. Since 2014, though, the pipe is now a magic word, so I think this template is kept as a dummy. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 15:17, 21 September 2015 (EDT)
Template is obsolete[edit]
As of MediaWiki version 1.24 and later (running 1.35 as of this writing), MediaWiki treats {{!}}
as a magic word. This template should either be deleted or kept for archival purposes. Misamp (talk) 22:56, November 23, 2020 (EST)
