Newer Name?

Given that the overall Japanese name, 回転リフト (Kaiten Rifuto, Spin Lift), appears in the title of Spinwheel Shuffle, should this article be moved to "Spinwheel"? LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:55, December 13, 2021 (EST)

New Super Mario Bros. 2-Tower ferris wheels

I think the variant that appears in World 2-Tower of New Super Mario Bros. should be split into its own article. Not only does it have a radically different design from every single other Paddle Platform, but it also doesn't have the basic "function" of a Paddle Platform; turning as the player stands on it. There's actually a much broader issue with the naming overlap of the platforms in general that I need to bring up that affects more than just New Super Mario Bros. To get the easy part out of the way, Yoshi's Crafted World and the Mario Party series unequivocally use the name 「回転リフト」 (Spin Lift) for the type of platform that moves in the direction paddled. The original SNES Shogakukan guide for Yoshi's Island refers to the automatically rotating version as 「回転リフト」 (Spin Lift) and variously refers to the manual paddle version as either that or 「足こぎ回転リフト」 (Pedal Spin Lift). The GBA version of the Shogakukan guide simplifies things and refers to all of these under the name 「回転リフト」 (Spin Lift). However, the Yoshi's Island DS Shogakukan then gives individual names to all three of these platforms, with 「回転リフト」 (Spin Lift) once again only referring to the automatically rotating version, 「足こぎリフト」 (Pedal Lift) referring to the type of platform that moves in the direction paddled, and now 「空回りリフト」 (basically Spinwheel Lift) referring to the other variant that can be paddled, but remains in place in the air instead of moving along a track. The Yoshi's New Island Shogakukan guide then uses 「あしこぎリフト」 (Pedal Lift) to refer to the paddling platforms, 「かいてんリフト」 (Spin Lift) for the automatic rotating version, and apparently 「回転するリフト」 (Spinning Lift) at least once to refer to the single-platform version of that (which appears in levels such as World 4-3). And then there are the New Super Mario Bros. games which, according to Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros., use the name 「水車リフト」 (Waterwheel Lift) except in New Super Mario Bros. 2, which reverts to 「回転リフト」 (Spin Lift); the big one that moves by itself from the first New Super Mario Bros. is 「大回転リフト」 (Big Spin Lift), which at the very least suggests that it's a big version of the automatically moving variant that otherwise doesn't appear in these games. And, to top things all off, 「回転リフト」 (Spin Lift) is the name used for the Swing Lift platforms from Super Mario World (which Encyclopedia has under one entry), suggesting that they are precursors to these platforms. Couple with the fact that all of these platforms for the most part have the same appearance in these games, and there are questions raised as to what's the best way these should all be organized. In summary, they tend to use the name 「回転リフト」 (Spin Lift) in appearances where the automatically rotating version of the same name doesn't appear, and are considered a subtype of that one sometimes. Should we take the approach from the early guides and consider these all the same object? Is the Yoshi's Island DS Shogakukan guide on the money for giving all of these their own name, even though the SNES Player's Guide previously considered two types of paddling platforms the same thing and only left the automatic version out of its description? Should the Super Mario World Swing Lifts be taken into account when reorganizing with this information in mind? Additionally, if new articles are to be made, do we even have English names ready? Either way, since the Yoshi's Island version of the platforms appear in different sizes anyway, I feel that the "Big Spin Lift" could easily just be covered in whichever article covers the automatically rotating version. I feel like both Swing Lift articles could be merged into a single article in order to properly cover their appearances in the New Super Mario Bros. games. As for the Single Swing Lift variety that turns when the player stands on it, that in and of itself could also be merged over here, given that they're pretty much the same thing. ^(T|C) 10:50, December 26, 2021 (EST)
