“Protects against and counters attacks from above with the helmet's spike.”
In-game description, Paper Mario: Sticker Star

The Spike Helmet is an item in Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Color Splash. It is a green helmet with a white rim and a sharp spike, similar to the ones worn by Spiked Goombas in the first three Paper Mario games and by Spike Guys in Paper Mario: Color Splash. It serves as a defense item that protects Mario from aerial attacks.

History[edit]

Paper Mario: Sticker Star[edit]

“An attack that provides a spiky surprise for attackers from above when you crouch and hold it over your head.”
Sticker Museum plaque, Paper Mario: Sticker Star

Spike Helmets first appear as stickers in Paper Mario: Sticker Star. They are dropped by Spinies, and are found in levels such as Goomba Fortress and Drybake Desert. They can be purchased in Decalburg for 8 coins. When used in battle, Mario wears the helmet and ducks down, dealing damage to enemies that attack him from above. If A Button is pressed, Mario thrusts upwards, dealing more damage. The Shiny Spike Helmet and Flashy Spike Helmet are upgraded versions of the Spike Helmet. It can be placed as #64 in the Sticker Museum.

If used during the Big Cheep Cheep boss fight after using the Fishhook, the Big Cheep Cheep will be instantly defeated upon attempting to jump onto Mario, at the cost of 30 HP of damage to Mario. This amount will increase each time it increases its size.

Paper Mario: Color Splash[edit]

“Counters attacks from above. Deals more damage if executed well. Lasts until you take damage.”
In-game description, Paper Mario: Color Splash

The Spike Helmet appears as a Battle Card in Paper Mario: Color Splash. It is first obtainable in the Indigo Underground, and can be bought at Prisma Cardware for 80 coins. It retains its Action Command from Paper Mario: Sticker Star. In this game, the Spike Helmet can only be found pre-painted.
