Super Mario World is part of Yoshi's series! I think it should be in the Yoshi template. Drefus2006

No, it isn't. Its "Super Mario". Deal.HK

Yoshi is not the main character, but an ally one of the brothers can pick up. Not a Yoshi game. Wayoshi 16:20, 3 August 2006 (EDT)

I wouldn't mind, but you're aware that the NES version is an unofficial, pirated game, right? It is... --YellowYoshi398 22:17, 25 February 2007 (EST)

On the world map, there are a few different types of circles indicating that theres a level. Yellow means 1 exit, red means 2 exits. What do the large circles mean? --Bentendo 13:57, 6 March 2007 (EST)

Correct me if I am wrong, but the circle size usually indicates the size of the level; large circle means longer level. LReyomeXX 12:54, 16 October 2009 (EDT)
From what I'm able to tell the larger circle indicates Mario has 400 seconds instead of 300 to complete the stage. -

Alrighty. I never saw anything about it 'till recently, and, seeing other related videos, people seemed to be flaming each other on it. I didn't know how much it spread into fan discussions and such. Thanks for the info. --Galvanic 02:16, 3 November 2007 (EDT)

Levels

I'm a big fan of SMW, and I remember each level, so I'll be working on the articles for the game's levels; a lot of them are too short, but no one's deleting them. Anyone want to help me? I'm honestly not the greatest writer... Sprite of the Ruby Star in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door CrystalYoshi Yoshi Egg Sprite.png

The articles on each level are excellent! Can we list them in this article somewhere? Would be great it the ToC listed the level names so people could jump straight to them from this article itself. Maybe just a simple sub-heading after each "world" name. Deminjanu (talk) 10:47, 30 October 2017 (EDT)

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

  • The game has a sequel, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island; however, instead of taking place after Super Mario World, it took place many years before it. This game tells the story of how Mario was born and plays similar to Super Mario World- The setting of the game is also the same setting as its predecessor. Super Mario World is an unlockable masterpiece in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. To unlock, one must play in the Yoshi's Island stage more than three times.

Does anyone else feel that a little too much time is spent describing the sequel? This article is about Super Mario World, not its sequel. SMW2 should be mentioned, as well as the date released in comparison to SMW and any other relevant details relating to its production as the original idea was introduced, but that's it. We can leave the story and gameplay to the actual SMW2 article. Redstar 22:19, 21 March 2009 (EDT)

Describing the plot was too much, so I shortened the SMW2:YI exposition a little and made sure it's more SMW-centric. Good spotting. - Walkazo 23:58, 21 March 2009 (EDT)
Looks much better now. Thanks for making it more appropriately lengthed. Redstar 02:22, 22 March 2009 (EDT)

? Ball

Shouldn't we just say the ? Ball is needed to complete Sunken Ghost Ship, because it is only on that level? YoshiwakerTyranitar.png

Makes sense to me. "Certain levels" implies there's more than one level where it appears, which is wrong, and as it's only in a single one, there's no reason not to be specific about which one; it won't really make the section any longer or harder to read.--vellidragon 16:39, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Question

Would Super Mario World be considered a sequel to SMB3? if so then would NSMB considered a sequel to SMW.

Goomba Shoe's right. I once made the page Super Mario World (NES) and it got deleted.KoopaMan (talk) Gumball of the Stars (talk)
NES is pirated and this version is awful and dull (since it is a hack). You cannot add! Unlicensed. Also, you start with 15 lives instead of 5. The score (points) does not work properly. Iggy Koopa is replaced by Reznors. There are only 3 reznors. The level numbering is not arranged properly e.g. Forest Fortress --> Roy's Castle. The music is awful. It hurts our ears! Out-tuned. The music in Chocolate island is Vanilla Dome. The music of the Super Star is Valley of Bowser. Valley of Bowser has sea! Bowser's Castle has a Valley entrance (as #7 castle). There is no Larry Koopa! --Mario091 (talk) 07:19, 12 September 2014 (EDT)

Differences

I have a Japanese copy of Super Mario World which has some differences than the international copies. Should've make a sub-page (Super Mario World/Regional Differences) for this if it doesn't exist? NewSMBU (talk)

Make a proposal about it, rather than just creating a brand new type of subpage. If we have one such page, we should aim to have "Differences" pages for all the games (or as many as possible), so it's a pretty hefty project. Also, any page we make would need to be significantly different than This other website's page: the page that was created before (which the admins agreed needed to be deleted) was a blatant rip-off of TCRF's page, and plagiarism isn't acceptable at all. As well as reorganizing the content and rewriting everything from scratch (not just rephrasing their text), they need to be credited for all the images and have their page be placed in the External Links section, in order to be fair about who came up with the info. - Walkazo 18:26, 5 April 2012 (EDT)

"Para-Galoombas"

I don't get it. Para-Galoombas are not actual enemies. Where did this information come from? Bob-ombRandomDSplayerBob-omb 12:48, 3 January 2014 (EST)

Um, yes they are. These Goombas in Super Mario World are called Galoombas based on the info from Super Mario 3D World. So it's safe to assume that the winged or the parachuting Galoombas are Paragaloombas. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 12:50, 3 January 2014 (EST)
Paragaloombas are galoombas with wings, just as how Paragoombas are Goombas with wings. For some reason, we don't have an article devoted to Paragaloomba at this time being. Reworking this Article

So I came across this article earlier and I feel like it's in need of a reconstruction. Specifically speaking, the inconsistencies of the "Enemies" part of the article strike me as particularly odd. Though I'm unsure what could be done, I guess you could either replace the sprites that are currently in use with, for example, the pictures from the end of the game, or you could at least replace some of it so there's less of a weird mixture between animated and non-animated sprites. Also, I guess there's a problem with large-scale enemies like the Boo Rings and Clusters, so I guess you could get some other way of imagery about this.

I felt like I should ask what everyone thinks before taking on a significant change like this on my own. -World of Freak ? Block 09:41, 20 August 2016 (EDT)

Hey Freakworld! You bring up a great point, I definitely have problems with the enemy section too. The mix between animated and static images isn't ideal. And the overly large objects (namely the Column) and the full screenshots showing the groups of Boos causes the table rows to become excessively tall, and leaves a lot of empty space around the text.
To me, the animation isn't necessary. Although the Boo Buddy Block is useful in showing the transformation, it would acceptable to have a static image only showing the block. The sprite of the Kamikaze Koopa could be left an an exception to show the animation.
As for image size, I think we shouldn't show anything much larger than a Banzai Bill sprite (64x64px). I think the larger sprites or enemies which take up more space should instead be shown through a small portion of a screenshot. Just now, I've cropped portions of those full Boo screenshots, which have now been replaced in the table. I think this could be the solution with that stupidly large Column sprite, too.

Decoy Dolls

Since they are named in the encyclopedia, which we don't cite, how are we going to do with them? Use their Japanese name, or dig or wait? --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 07:49, June 5, 2019 (EDT)

Specifically what Lemmy and Wendy use. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 13:07, June 7, 2019 (EDT)
Also, which quote mention them in the Nintendo Power guide? --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 04:12, June 8, 2019 (EDT)
The closest mentions in Mario Mania: "Lemmy and two fake Koopalings emerge from the pipes randomly." on page 87 and "The illustrious Wendy O. Koopa makes her appearance with two Wendy stand-ins. You’ve got to single out and stomp the real Wendy three times, or the flames and decoys will send you reeling." on page 131. Note that there was a Prima guide for Super Mario Advance 2, but I don't have it. LinkTheLefty (talk) 07:42, June 8, 2019 (EDT)
Then what are we going to do if we don't cite the encyclopedia? --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 13:03, June 11, 2019 (EDT)
There's also Nintendo Power Advance V.4: "Lemmy and his two Lemmy decoys pop in and out of their pipes, trying to grab you." on page 43, and on page 69: "Bowser’s only Koopette, Wendy, surrounds herself with decoys and pipes—much like her brother Lemmy." and "When Wendy pops her vain little self out of a pipe, her two decoys join in." Maybe "decoy" would suffice? LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:48, July 25, 2019 (EDT)
It's not a proper name. Since we do have an English name for it (Decoy Doll), but we can't cite the encyclopedia, that's a real problem. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 12:52, July 25, 2019 (EDT)
Yeah, it's a proper name. As far as I can tell, no other Mario enemy uses the term 'decoy', so it works. TheDarkStar Sprite of the Dark Star from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey 12:53, July 25, 2019 (EDT)
It's consistent in this reference, so I'd say it works too. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:58, July 25, 2019 (EDT)
@TheDarkStar, no, it's not a proper name, since it's not capitalized. If the encyclopedia ever gets retranslated, if they use "Decoy", that'd be because of us. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 15:45, July 25, 2019 (EDT)
Uncapitalized terms can count if they are used consistently. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:52, July 25, 2019 (EDT)

Proposal to French translation

Mario Wiki is a incredible websote and it should be available to everyone. As a French, I propose myself to translate articles to French so young French users should be able to understand. I want the site to be accessible the most possible. All pf the images and informations will be at the same place, only translated. This page would be the first one and I'll take time to translate others. I hope I do bot mistaken the proposal to this place. I don't lnow anywhere else to propose.

Remove numbers from Super Mario World Koopaling castle article titles

Settledproposal.svg This talk page proposal has already been settled. Please do not edit any of the sections in the proposal. If you wish to discuss the article, do so in a new header below the proposal.

no quorum 1-0-3
Currently, the Koopaling castles are an example of a wiki technical restriction, as a title cannot start with "#". However, while this may be technically true going strictly by in-game names, there is a way we can get around it. Specifically, the game's English guides. Most all of them - namely Nintendo Power Volume 28, the Super NES Player's Guide, Nintendo Power Advance v.4, and Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2–Prima’s Official Strategy Guide - leave the castle numbers out (Mario Mania presents both). This proposal will refer to these supplementary sources to respectively move 1 Iggy's Castle, 2 Morton's Castle, 3 Lemmy's Castle, 4 Ludwig's Castle, 5 Roy's Castle, 6 Wendy's Castle, and 7 Larry's Castle to Iggy's Castle, Morton's Castle, Lemmy's Castle, Ludwig's Castle, Roy's Castle, Wendy's Castle, and Larry's Castle. There are two options for this proposal: the first will mainly affect the article titles and piping, so the articles will still be displayed as #1 Iggy's Castle, #2 Morton's Castle, #3 Lemmy's Castle, #4 Ludwig's Castle, #5 Roy's Castle, #6 Wendy's Castle, and #7 Larry's Castle; the second will fully affect presentation so that the numberless names are prioritized over the numbered ones. The Naming example will have to be modified to account for the change, or possibly the section will have to be removed entirely if the second option passes as I'm not sure what other titles this limitation applies to.

@Hewer: The presentation of these articles will not change if this proposal passes - it is merely to further circumvent the wiki's technical limitations in which the in-game names cannot be used in full. LinkTheLefty (talk) 21:15, December 17, 2022 (EST)

I don't really see the benefit of the change then given the titles would still not be abiding by usual naming rules either way, and this doesn't really 'further circumvent' it if all we're changing is removing the numbers that wouldn't be seen without editing pages. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 04:48, December 18, 2022 (EST)
