Manta Ray[edit]

A year ago, Doc von Schmeltwick suggested to move the article to Manta Ray. Since this is explicitly the in-game name, I support him on it. Results May Vary (talk) 22:08, November 7, 2019 (EST)

...pretty sure if we see it differently in game we can just move it without proposal. I can do it if you would like. User:Trig Jegman - 22:12, November 7, 2019 (EST)
It's conventional to do talk page discussions. Only admins can overwrite a page, for one. Two, the page history would be lost a bit if kept under "Manta" and not moved to "Manta Ray". Results May Vary (talk) 22:14, November 7, 2019 (EST)
I stand by that, but would additionally like to see a guide-type source, as it could be a generic usage (akin to "eel" or "big bird"). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:15, November 7, 2019 (EST)
Hmmmmm.... the 78th page for the Nintendo Power guide of Super Mario 64 calls it "Manta" (and uppercase too). Results May Vary (talk) 22:20, November 7, 2019 (EST)
The mission title may be generic, but it should also be mentioned that it's a direct equivalent of the Japanese term. The official website also refers to it as the Manta Ray (or the Ray), though it's also the same source that used the Swimming Beast and the Big Bird. Additionally, Manta technically has an in-game reference, from Mario Party 4's Manta Rings. LinkTheLefty (talk) 06:13, November 8, 2019 (EST)
Come to thing of it, "manta ray" is just a generic title for Manta (especially since the mission has "The" in the title). I now think the article's name should stay as Manta... Results May Vary (talk) 14:58, November 8, 2019 (EST)
