Stage 3-1 is the first level of the Ship in the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong. The level focuses on traveling upon the Thwomp-related species called Walking Blocks.

Layout[edit]

Mario starts off under some rope, where he must head right over to the ladder and climb up it. Once at the top, Mario must jump onto a single block, then jump onto a Walking Block when it is close enough and ride it over the spikes. Another Walking Block walks across the spikes; when the two bump into each other, they change directions. Mario must jump onto the next one as it walks towards the platform on the other side, where a road is found. Once there, Mario must activate the road, then connect it to a small platform at the bottom with a Walking Block so it walks over to the spiked ground on the right.

Mario has three methods for getting back to the platform on the left over the spikes: he can take the Walking Block back over the spikes, use the rope to fling himself over the spikes, or use the road once it deactivates to cross the spikes. Once over, Mario must then go back down the ladder and head right (he can jump into the water and head left to obtain a 1 UP Heart), then he must head back and jump onto to the non-spiked platform. Mario must jump onto the Walking Block when it is close enough to ride it over the spikes to the platform with the key. After collecting it, Mario can return to the door by riding the Walking Block back and jumping over the gap to avoid falling into the water.

Enemies[edit]

Pauline's lost items[edit]

Within this stage, Pauline's lost items can be found in the following order and in the following places:

  • Hat: In a water area below the key.
  • Bag: Above the spikes. Mario can ride the Walking Block to get it safely.
  • Parasol: In the in closed area. Mario must Wire Spin up to it then pull the switch to open the door to escape.
