Green Yoshi

Template:Species-infobox Green Yoshis are the most common color variant of the Yoshi species. The most notable green Yoshi is Yoshi. Green Yoshis are commonly seen with a red saddle and boots.
History
Super Mario series
Super Mario World
Yoshis debuted in Super Mario World, where they can be hatched from an egg if Mario or Luigi find them. In this game, Yoshis can eat enemies to defeat them, including enemies Mario and Luigi can't normally defeat on their own, such as Spinies. Yoshi, the Green Yoshi, can also use this ability to receive different powers depending on which color of Koopa shell he is holding in his mouth. These abilities are:
- Green Shell – Nothing
- Red Shell – Spitting Fireballs
- Blue Shell – Flying
- Yellow Shell – Ground Pound
- Rainbow Shell – Flying, Ground Pound, and Spitting Fireballs
Yoshis can also eat Berries in this game, each of which have different effects. If a Yoshi eats ten Red Berries in the same level, he will lay an egg which hatches into a Super Mushroom. If it eats two Pink Berries in the same level, it will lay an egg that hatches into a coin-throwing cloud. This cloud will reward the player with a 1-Up Mushroom should they catch all the coins. Green Berries will add twenty seconds to the timer.
In the SNES version of the game, Yellow, Red and Blue Yoshis can only be hatched from eggs in the Star World, and only the Green Yoshi can be found in Dinosaur Land. However, in the Game Boy Advance remake of the game, the different colored Yoshis appear at random in Dinosaur Land after they are discovered in the Star World. If Mario or Luigi beats a level while riding a Yoshi, it follows him to the next level. However, Yoshis are forbidden from entering Ghost Houses and Castles, and will wait for Mario and Luigi outside until they've finished the level.
Super Mario Sunshine
In Super Mario Sunshine, the Yoshis start out as green but change to a different color once they eat a Fruit upon hatching. They also turn green if they are about to die from not eating another Fruit for a long time, or when they drown in water. While green, Yoshis spit water instead of juice.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Green Yoshis appear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They are the first Yoshis to hatch out of Yoshi Eggs when playing the game solo. However, if the player reaches the Flagpole with Yoshi, Mario or the other character riding Yoshi will dismount Yoshi, who then waves goodbye. Therefore, only certain levels can have Yoshi. (These levels being 1-3, 2-5, 3-2, 4-5, 6-4, and 7-6.) They do not appear in either World 5 or World 8 though.
Super Mario Galaxy 2
The Green Yoshi that appears in some galaxies of Super Mario Galaxy 2 is Yoshi himself. In this games Yoshis can eat enemies again and they also can use some power-ups that give to them special powers, such dash, float temporally and "light"
New Super Mario Bros. U
The Green Yoshis are ridable in New Super Mario Bros. U. They behave like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, though unlike it's prequel, Green Yoshis are the only colors available. Like in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2, Green Yoshi cannot be taken out of the levels they appear in.
Yoshi series
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and its remake, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, one is playable on every World's first level, and King Bowser's Castle in World 6, although in all other worlds, Blue Yoshi is playable on the final level. Green Yoshi is also playable in every Secret and Extra level in the game. This Yoshi seems to be the character Yoshi, tought, nothing is confirmed.
Yoshi's Story
A young Green Yoshi appears as one of the playable protagonists in Yoshi's Story. Its favorite fruit is Watermelon.

Yoshi's Island DS
Green Yoshis also appear in Yoshi's Island DS. They help Baby Mario and the other babies to rescue Baby Luigi. Green Yoshis appear in the first level of each world and in the final level of World 5. In the final boss battle, a Green Yoshi carries Baby Mario.
Mario Power Tennis
In Mario Power Tennis, Yoshi is playable. Although green is the default color, there is an option to switch colors. Once the player wins the Flower Cup in doubles mode with any character, Yoshi will randomly change his color whenever he performs a Rolling Egg Return.
Mario Tennis Open
Much like in Mario Power Tennis, green Yoshis are default playable characters, although other colored Yoshis can be unlocked via QR code. In this game, there are green, pink, blue, yellow, red, black, white/silver and cyan Yoshis.
Mario Sports Mix
In Mario Sports Mix, Green Yoshi is the default skin color for Yoshi, although alternative costumes can be unlocked. There are green, cyan, pink and yellow Yoshis being playable, while a Red and a Dark-blue Yoshi serves as captains in Dodgeball. Other Yoshis can be seen in the background of some stages.
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
In Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Yoshi kids are partners, and the green one is the default. Also a non-playable green Yoshi appears.
Appearance
In Super Mario World, Green Yoshi has green skin, but orange gloves, brown shoes and a brown saddle. In Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, Green Yoshi's gloves were removed to match its current appearance.
In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Green Yoshi looks about the same as he does in Super Mario World, but with orange shoes and a red saddle. He also doesn't wear his orange gloves, and instead he has bare green arms. In the Game Boy Advance port, Green Yoshi wore red shoes.
From Yoshi's Story to Super Smash Bros. Melee, Green Yoshi has red shoes and a red saddle. From Super Mario Sunshine and on, Green Yoshi has orange shoes and red saddle, with the exception of Super Mario 64 DS, where his shoes were brown again.
