Fire Bros. from Super Mario Bros. 3.

The Fire Bros. are a rare variety of Hammer Bro. Instead of throwing Hammers like their relatives, Fire Bros. have the unique ability to spit Fireballs. These fireballs move very fast and are very hard to dodge. Fire Bros. first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3. In fact, only three appear in the entire game. Two appear in the Desert Land while one appears in the Hand Trap levels of Dark Land. Fire Bros. reappeared in New Super Mario Bros.. However, they are only found in World 8-7, right after the checkpoint.

Flare, a Fire Bro., is a fighter in the Glitz Pit and the only Fire Bro. in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Like other Fire Bros., he spits fireballs to attack; however, these fireballs not only damage opponents, they might cause them to catch fire as well.

Fire Bros. also make an appearance in Super Paper Mario. They are encountered in Castle Bleck, and act just like they did in Super Mario Bros. 3. Some Fire Bros. also have the ability to flip between dimensions.

Fire Bro. was made playable for the first time in Mario Superstar Baseball, as a color swap for Hammer Bro., once he's unlocked. He also appeared on Bowser's team in challenge mode. He had a bit less speed than his counterparts, but he used an everyday bat instead of a hammer or boomerang, which is hard to hit with. Starting with this game, the Fire Bro. wears a red helmet and a red shell, similar to what the red-shelled Koopa Troopas wore.

The Fire Bro. later appeared in Mario Super Sluggers with the same bat as in Mario Superstar Baseball. His fielding abilities have improved, and he has the best batting abilities among his counterparts.

Fire Bros. reappear New Super Mario Bros. Wii having the same attacks from New Super Mario Bros. They appear in World 6-6 in the boat level. Here, they throw Fireballs like Mario and Co., rather than spitting them like they previously did.

Other Appearances

Fire Bros. made two rare appearances in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, where they retained their status as soldiers in Bowser's army. In the episode "Reptiles in the Rose Garden" two Fire Bros. and two Boomerang Bros. had been ordered to guard Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Toad while they were held captive in Castle Koopa's dungeon. However Princess Toadstool fooled the two pairs into fighting each other so that she and her friends could escape. In "The Venice Menace", Kootie Pie Koopa used a small Fire Brother as a welding torch, which shot a stream of fire, as opposed to fireballs.

Trivia
