Club Nintendo is a service currently operating in Japan, North America, Europe, and Australia. Members receive points (called coins) for registering Nintendo Products, which can then be redeemed for Nintendo-themed Merchandise. The coins last 2 years, but afterward expire. After registering a certain amount of products, members recieve either a Gold or Platinum "elite status" which will give the member a special gift at the end of the club nintendo year (which is always June 30). At the end of the year, the status is reset, and the member must earn more coins in order to retrieve their status again. Members recieve Gold status by registering 300 coins worth of coins, and platinum for registering 600 coins worth. A DS game is worth 30 coins, while a Wii game is worth 50.
