8 bits
The 8 bits (sometimes called the 8 bit Club) is the name of an organization of Shy Guys, Ninjis, Beezos, Tweeters, Snifits and many other creatures that aided Wart in his conquest of the land of dreams, Subcon, in Super Mario Bros. 2. Their name is a reference to the size of the Ricoh 2A03/2A07 processor's CPU registers: 8 bits. Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Toadstool encountered members of the 8 Bits in almost every location they visited, be it in the desert, clouds, or tundra. Shy Guys are the most numerous members of the 8 bits, and they or their giant-sized brothers are seen in every level. The Snifits are also found in most levels, but Beezos only appear a few times. Also Ninjis and Tweeters were quite common, but unlike them, Flurrys only appeared in the ice levels along with the whales. In the remake Super Mario Advance, a new subspecies of Shy Guys and Ninjis were introduced to the 8-Bits as Giant Shy Guys and Giant Ninjis.
Some of the species in the 8-bits later joined the Koopa Troop, such as Shy Guys and Snifits. Many were King Koopa's minions in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!.
