In physics, a wormhole or timeslip is a hypothetical feature of spacetime that is basically a shortcut through space and time (although a timeslip is just a shortcut through time that may take you backwards or forwards). Worm holes are utilized for transportation because of their unique ability to take you anywhere in the universe (and anywhere in time) faster than the speed of light. Worm holes are a feature of both the Mario series and the real world.

Some examples of worm holes in use are in DK Jungle Climber where worm holes were used to take Donkey Kong to odd worlds. While in the Club Nintendo comic Super Mario: Verloren in der Zeit Mario was transported through time and space to places such as Hösndösn with the use of a worm hole, or timeslip. A worm hole was also used in the N-Gang comic Freeze Frame where Big B was transported through a worm hole to the icy landscape that featured the ice castle. In Captain N Kevin Keene was transported to Videoland through a mystical vortext presumably a worm hole.
