Userpage help!

Hey Walkazo, ParaLemmy1234 here. My userpage got almost entirely deleted, and I can't seem to build/recreate it. Can you help me address this problem?

Thanks, User:ParaLemmy1234

Just undo your last two edits. Or go to the last revision before you deleted everything and hit edit (i.e. this). - Walkazo 22:07, 24 April 2013 (EDT)

Can you help me?

Can you upload this: [1]

First use: [2]

Then use: [3]

Finally upload it.

The Contents of this file will be:

Thanks! -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions)

No. You should focus your time and energy on editing the wiki, instead of Personal File acquisition and other such userspace frivolities. - Walkazo 18:29, 26 April 2013 (EDT)

You. Are. Awesome.

I've been reading The 'Shroom since 2010, and for me, it was just a fantastic, monthly e-newspaper to glance at every once in a while when it was updated, and has spawned some pretty fantastic opinion articles in its time. However, the only two times I have ever been truly engrossed in a 'Shroom article, and amazed by the theories and opinions on the screen in front of me, was when I read both of your 'Shroom articles. Both of them were written perfectly and had awesome theories (I enjoyed the process of deducing the Koopaling's mother down to a simple DNA code, it actually got me interested in genetics, and I'm hoping to study it further when I'm older). I've never viewed any Mario species in the same way after reading your first article, and it was pure genius to answer a theory that Nintendo has completely retconned out of existence (I too still believe that the Koopalings are the biological children of Bowser, but I never really considered their mother) in the second article. You are awesome for tackling those two theories and writing what I believe to be two of the greatest articles on the 'Shroom. :D GBAToad (talk) 12:02, 27 April 2013 (EDT)

That's really great! We haven't done any detailed experiments involving genetics yet (I feel like such a geek asking my teacher about doing some >:3). I actually can't wait to start learning more about chromosomes (I'm hoping that Pokémon X and Y have a genetics theme to go along with their names, but that's really not important), viruses, bacteria, HOW TO GENETICALLY MODIFY A TURTLE TO RESEMBLE A KOOPA and DNA structure.I'm glad that the field is rapidly expanding right now; it makes me want to discover something really interesting! If you don't mind me asking, but what was your favorite thing you did while you were learning genetics?
STEP 1: OBTAIN TURTLE :P GBAToad (talk) 17:39, 28 April 2013 (EDT)
APOG is a cool mnemonic ;), and Bowser and the Transformation of MM294 was a great read. Between homework and studying, I only just got to finish reading it now. It was smart giving Ludwig a German accent, it's really fitting for him. The method was the most interesting part (probably because it featured some pretty cool genetics jargon), and I loved the comeuppance at the end. The whole process for sterilizing equipment and growing pGLO bacteria was a fun one to follow, and I'll bet it was twice as fun in the lab as it was writing it from the perspective of the Koopalings. Thank you for responding to all of my comments, it's been great talking to someone who is experienced in genetics and editing Super Mario Wiki. Thanks, Walkazo. Once again, you are really awesome. :D GBAToad (talk) 17:43, 29 April 2013 (EDT)

Proposal

Hi!
(I'm writing this after I saw you removed my proposal)
I wrote it in "Writing Guideline" because it was the only section that would have fit, but apparently I shouldn't have done here. That's fine. But I wonder why you said that it wasn't worth a proposal, because I saw quite a lot of articles written like this, and it annoys me each time. Should I create a thread on the forum instead, or is it still unnecessary?
Thanks.

Walkazo, why did you spell incorrectly on this? -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 06:59, 29 April 2013 (EDT)

I've said a lot of things on that page: you're gonna have to be more specific. - Walkazo 09:30, 29 April 2013 (EDT)
[Now that the above post has been edited to include a section link...] You mean the "now" instead of "not"? That was a typo. - Walkazo 18:16, 29 April 2013 (EDT)

Images

After a proposal has been passed, are you allowed to create one that adds on to it? --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 12:45, 5 May 2013 (EDT)

As long as it doesn't overturn anything established by the first proposal, it should be okay, but it depends on the specific situation, since some additions might actually be more like changes to the original vision of the initial proposal. - Walkazo 19:16, 5 May 2013 (EDT)
This proposal states that we should move files to appropriate names, so I was wondering, would it be feasible to have a filter or something that could detect undesirable filenames? Because after all the current ones are taken care of, this wouldn't be a problem anymore. --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 18:01, 6 May 2013 (EDT)
I don't think it's possible, and it's unnecessary anyway. Images have always been screened manually, only now we're looking at the title as well as what's in the image itself: no biggie. - Walkazo 18:41, 6 May 2013 (EDT)
Should this be moved to somewhere else? --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 17:14, 7 May 2013 (EDT)
If you want to withdraw the proposal, yeah, it should go in the archives with a grey outcome reading "DELETED BY PROPOSER". As for the request itself, do what Baby Luigi told you to do and bring it up on the "Requesting edits for locked pages." forum thread. - Walkazo 17:20, 7 May 2013 (EDT)
K thanks. And should I provide a draft for it on the forum (see my comment on the proposal page) --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 17:21, 7 May 2013 (EDT)
If you have a specific idea for what the section on {{plain link}} should look like, sure, you could make a little draft if you'd like. No guarantee we'll use it, but if it's good, it'll save the admins the trouble of writing something up ourselves ;) - Walkazo 17:30, 7 May 2013 (EDT)
Finished with the draft, when I post this on the forum, is it OK to say that it got admin approval? (I already have) --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 17:27, 8 May 2013 (EDT)
No, it was not okay. If I approve something, I will say so myself. Don't ever presume to speak for me again. And I don't approve of that draft, by the way: there's too much unnecessary stuff cluttering it up. - Walkazo 18:32, 8 May 2013 (EDT)
I apologize. I was in a hurry, and I should have waited for you to respond before posting on the forum. Would it be okay if I cleaned up the draft and resubmitted? Again, I apologize. --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 17:43, 9 May 2013 (EDT)
No worries, just don't do it again. As for the draft, the admins are discussing it: the page may just be left as-is, and if it's not, the only change we're looking at is a simple trim. The explanation part's perfectly fine, and that's what matters most anyway, so don't worry about making another draft. - Walkazo 21:11, 9 May 2013 (EDT)

Donkey Kong arcade games...which series is it under?

Forgive me for the lack of knowledge here, it's been a while since I'm in the wiki. Are the Donkey Kong arcade games (Donkey Kong, Jr, and III) part of the Mario series, or the Donkey Kong series, or both? The reason I asked is that I'm working on dumping my 2010 work into the wiki regarding the list of images-needing-to-be-replacified. User:RAP/test2. I asked User:Phoenix about it but no response.--RAP.pngRAP... 02:01, 9 May 2013 (EDT)

The original Donkey Kong is in both, but the other two are generally only placed in the overall Donkey Kong series around here, afaik. - Walkazo 22:13, 9 May 2013 (EDT)

EXACTLY WHY?

Why are fake shops removed? They are more real than the 'Shroom ones and have a reason for competitions. Fake shops were a sign of an economy forming inside of the wiki.

Signed,

Razzoom "MarioKart" Johnson, Senior (talk) 14:07, 14 May 2013 (EDT)

The proposal explained exactly why. The wiki isn't about building up fake economies: the wiki is about editing the actual articles, and userspace frivolities distracting users, wasting server space and cluttering up the RecentChanges interferes with that. - Walkazo 19:18, 14 May 2013 (EDT)

Gallery standard

Hi! I was thinking about proposing an official standard for galleries. In regards to consistency, there has been a lot of lenience given to gallery sub-pages and from what I've seen, recently created galleries have been mimicking the better-looking galleries for layout and appearance. This is fine, however older galleries look inconsistent in comparison. Thus, I've been working on a guideline based on these better-looking galleries, which includes LGM's recently approved standard, as well as some basic formatting rules. I recognize that there are differences between character, game and misc. galleries, so this proposed standard should be subject to exceptions. I've tried to only mention minor things that should be standard across all galleries. You know a lot about consistency and what's best for the wiki, so could you (whenever you can) please take a look at what I've compiled so far? I'd like some critique before making a full-fledged proposal, so any advice would be greatly appreciated! :) GBAToad (talk) 22:47, 7 June 2013 (EDT)

Done! I've restructured the entire thing and inserted separate sections detailing subsections and outlining the different types of galleries. However, I'm stumped when it comes to writing a snazzy opening paragraph for the policy, as well as detailing 'What needs a gallery?' (as a warning to prevent users from creating a new sub-page with only 5 or 6 pictures). GBAToad (talk) 05:03, 10 June 2013 (EDT)
I'm deeply sorry for the super-late reply. The opening statement you wrote was perfect, not to mention the policy looks heaps better with your coding ideas. I really wanted to stress what deserves a gallery somewhere in the policy but you nailed it perfectly (the example I gave you was more of a situation than a concrete standard, but thank you for clarifying the importance). Thanks to all of your great advice and input, the policy looks fantastic and the new standards feel way more refined. I'll get around to creating the proposal soon, but for now, Thanks a bunch Walkazo for all of the help! GBAToad (talk) 08:30, 19 June 2013 (EDT)
No problem. I've also removed the comment after the 'Miscellaneous' section for similar reasons. There was a little bit of advice you gave me in your first response that I forgot to add to the <i> bullet point, so I've also incorporated both that and thequoteblock to expand it. Another thing: Regarding LGM's recent proposal (which if passed will enforce that screenshots from TV shows and movies should be included in subject galleries), I was thinking about going into a bit more detail about what is included in each section to accommodate these potential changes. I've written a much fuller explanation on LGM's talk page, but in short I'd just like to expand some things before creating the proposal. GBAToad (talk) 00:05, 21 June 2013 (EDT)
I totally forgot about the extended deadline for writing policies... though these should be the last edits, really, so the proposal should be up soon. I especially like the idea of incorporating animation screenshots and printed media. The more diverse the gallery the better! As such, printed media now has it's own section ('Scans') as per your superb idea. I've also made it clear that game galleries must feature every image relating to the game in the gallery, whereas only a selection of images is required for subject galleries. Other than that, each section has been defined in the best way I could, but any other suggestions would be excellent. GBAToad (talk) 09:38, 22 June 2013 (EDT)

I'm not sure about 'Game Instalments' either. It could probably be removed completely, as it only gives a subsection title to the main images when a "Miscellaneous" section is present. The quotation marks have been fixed, and some other minor details have been adjusted. I couldn't find a suitable example from the subject galleries to replace the "Game Instalments" example, so I went with "Bosses". Edit summaries aside, If it looked good to go before, then it sure is good to go now :) GBAToad (talk) 19:33, 23 June 2013 (EDT)

Good catch :P. Um, one more thing, LGM asked about screenshots from Mario characters appearances in Nintendo advertisements (sans live action ads). I'm thinking that a subsection after Animation could contain them if they are needed, but I'm not so sure. Should we include them? GBAToad (talk) 23:45, 26 June 2013 (EDT)
Alright then, I'll mention it in the policy. Once again, thanks for all of your help, I really couldn't have written a comprehensive policy page without your help :) GBAToad (talk) 01:33, 27 June 2013 (EDT)

Template help

I added all the links for the Nav. template, (all that's left is to pipe them), but when I tried to align everything to the left (I used Megadardery's example here for the code), but when I typed in "left align", it moved everything to the right, what was done wrong? --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 09:48, 13 June 2013 (EDT)

You want align="left" (style="vertical-align:left can be removed entirely), but even then, it's not going to turn out like Megadardery's draft with the headers beside the text: you've structured the template completely differently. - Walkazo 13:52, 13 June 2013 (EDT)
OK, thanks --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 08:58, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
It's finished, does it look good enough? --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 11:49, 14 June 2013 (EDT)
It's a good enough start, but it should really have the left-side headers like in Megadardery's version. - Walkazo 12:21, 14 June 2013 (EDT)

Proposal archive colour

I was thinking that it might be more consistent that if a proposal was withdrawn or deleted by the proposer then in the archives it should be coloured grey instead of pink as the colour of the font used is grey. Yoshi876 (talk)

Grey is for proposals that are passed but not enacted yet. It sets them apart from the colourful proposals that don't need attending to, and lets anyone browsing the archives know that there are still tasks that need doing. - Walkazo 15:26, 28 June 2013 (EDT)

Interwiki

Hello Walkazo. I would like to simplify the interwiki partnership of the three Mario Wikis. Could you add the following to the template Foreignname:

{{#ifeq: {{{ItA}}} | - | | {{#if: {{{It|}}} | [[it:{{{ItA|{{{It}}}}}}]] }} }}{{#ifeq: {{{GerA}}} | - | | {{#if: {{{Ger|}}} | [[de:{{{GerA|{{{Ger}}}}}}]] }} }}

With this, the template sets the interwiki links to the italien and the german wiki automatically.

The "ItA" and "GerA" is needed, when the name under the "Italien" or "German" section of this template is different from the actual name of the article in the italien or german wiki. For example: The name of the Super Mario World tv series is simply "Super Mario World" so:

|Ger=Super Mario World

But the actual name of the article to this tv series in the german wiki is "Super Mario World (TV-Serie)" so:

|GerA=Super Mario World (TV-Serie)

The template shows "Super Mario World" but sets a interwiki link to the actual article "Super Mario World (TV-Serie)"

The only problem is that the code doesn't support multiple names under the "Italien" and "German" section. What do you think?

Sincerly, DarkLuigi (talk) 06:45, 30 June 2013 (EDT)

TPP

I made a TPP about renaming Hostage and most of the opposes came from my argument that it was dark, however, I have a second argument about it not being official and as such I removed the dark part from the original proposal. Seeing as most votes opposing were cast over it not being that dark should I reset the votes as it's no longer mentioned. Yoshi876 (talk)

I'd suggest slashing-out the "dark" part to make it clear you changed the proposal - and then hope the folks come back and check: the TPP still has a long time until its deadline, after all. But most of the opposing votes have other reasons too (mainly that it's a pointless rename in general), so don't be surprised if there's no big turnaround no matter what you do. - Walkazo 17:51, 2 July 2013 (EDT)

Sorry, I was unaware. Yoshi876 (talk)

What if an admin breaks the rules?

Hello. I was wondering, under the rules, it says that you cannot give an admin a warning. But does that mean they can still break the rules? What if one even goes as far as vandalizing the main page? That would be inexcusable and no one could get away with that. So, are admins allowed to break rules since no one can give them warnings?24.127.162.236 07:56, 5 July 2013 (EDT)

Admins rights are given wisely to those who are trusted, so admins probably won't ever vandalize. However, Normal users cannot give Administrators warnings, but Bureaucrats can give them warnings or demote them. And the Proprietor can give Bureaucrats warning or demote them.. --

Any administrative misconduct is discussed and handled by the admins. No one is exempt from the rules, especially not us (since part of our job involves enforcing the rules). Mario4Ever (talk) 08:28, 5 July 2013 (EDT)

And can an admin give a patroller a warning? 24.127.162.236 10:05, 5 July 2013 (EDT)

The warning would be internal: they wouldn't get a template on their talk page, but there would be a discussion on the forum to let the admin know what they did wrong, figure out how to right any wrongs that were done, and to make sure it doesn't happen again. However, while 'Crats are the ones to physically correct admin mistakes on the wiki end (to make it clear to onlooking users that there's been an overruling), there's no "warning hierarchy" between the three ranks or anything like that. It doesn't matter if the admin who made the mistake is a Patroller, a Sysop or even a 'Crat: all the admins are held accountable for our actions by all the other admins. - Walkazo 11:23, 5 July 2013 (EDT)

Featured Article Requirements

I had a recently passed proposal that involved loosening FA requirements, but I'm not exactly sure how to word the changes in the Featured Articles rules section. I asked Glowsquid how I could do this, but asked me to ask you. :/

Well, all the FA rules are pretty short and straightforward, so a long explanation wouldn't work. Personally, I think changing the wording of Rule 8 to "reasonable" is already enough to imply that unreasonable demands for essays on things like Super Mario-kun are not what we're looking for in FAs, but perhaps you're hoping to elaborate a bit more? The "especially a biography for character articles." seems unnecessary and has plural-singular disagreement anyway, so I'd say it could be snipped to give us a bit more space to work with; there's also overlap with Rule 3, so the "sources" bit can also be trimmed (every word counts). Maybe something like this would work: "...have reasonable amounts of information from all appearances. Full coverage is ideal, but not always possible, and so, is not required for obscure media." - Walkazo 13:25, 6 July 2013 (EDT)
Thanks so much! I rewritten and trimmed some words, so check if it's okay now. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 13:31, 6 July 2013 (EDT)

Protection Levels

Sorry to bother, but could I ask why articles like Donkey Kong Country Returns and Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! still have their protection level set to autoconfirmed? As far as I can tell, the pages were protected simply due to being upcoming games, but that was years ago. With the fairly recent advent of users being able to edit via IP, it seems a bit unnecessary to keep them protected, in my opinion, since those IPs won't be able to edit at all. It's not that big of a deal, but could you give it some thought, please? Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Good point. I lowered the protection. - Walkazo 17:21, 9 July 2013 (EDT)

MarioWiki pages

Hi,

While you're dealing with some issues concerning the MarioWiki pages, could you move those ones in order to remove the uppercases?

I'm not entirely sure all of these are actual issues...

I know this is quite a lot of work, so I'd understand you decide not to do it.
Banon (talk · edits) 13:56, 12 July 2013 (EDT)

Seems more like making the few lowercase pages uppercase would be the way to go. - Walkazo 14:02, 12 July 2013 (EDT)
Are you saying that because they're considered titles and thus should be capitalized? Because I don't really understand the difference with subsections' uppercases (e.g.: Names in Other Languages). Unless you think those should be capitalized too? :)
Banon (talk · edits) 16:03, 12 July 2013 (EDT)
Yeah, they're official policies, so capitalizing them as proper names seems logical. It also looks more consistent with the invariably uppercase one-word titles. Plus, it helps ensure they stand out in conversation. Same with Writing Guidelines and Talk Page Proposals - which is why they were reverted back to uppercase after the admins discussed the matter. It's not the same as section headers, which are more like labels than titles. - Walkazo 18:33, 12 July 2013 (EDT)

Fair enough. Here is a list (once again, some of these probably don't need to be "fixed"):

Banon (talk · edits) 10:43, 13 July 2013 (EDT)

I know that you recently archived two proposals including the Mario Party one-liner section one that reached a NO Quorum, but I thought that they were meant to be extended for another week should that happen and I don't think that one was extended. Yoshi876 (talk)

Deleted Page

Somewhere around 16:30 GMT (maybe a bit before) on July 28, I created a page called Brock (species). The page did not have much content (infobox, ML:DT template) and I put the stub template on the top. I left my computer for a bit and when I came back, I discovered that the page had been deleted by L151 (administrator) at 16:42, less than 30 minutes after the creation of the article. The edit summary said "(poor 0% of contents )," and while I do agree that the page had very little content, I also had plans to work on it more after I came back a bit more than an hour later. It didn't even get the new stub template on the top with a week time limit to expand it like all new articles do. I think that I should have at least gotten a few hours to work on expanding it before deletion or a notice on my talk page saying to expand it. Could you please bring it back so I can work on expanding and improving the article? Thank You! --Artwork of Bowser in Fortune Street (also used in Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games)M a r i oArtwork of the Lucky Seven symbol.(talkϟedits) 19:18 GMT, July 28, 2013

One-liners still get deleted on sight afaik, and your page didn't even have a line. If you're going to make a new page, actually put some content in it right from the start; use your userspace if you want to make drafts instead of making a page in one go. - Walkazo 17:49, 28 July 2013 (EDT)

Is it File:MP2 Toad in the Box.png? It's been updated, it just looks the same for you since your internet's remembering the old image. It's a cache thing; either purge your browser's cache or be patient and it'll look right eventually. - Walkazo 20:03, 1 August 2013 (EDT)

Splited

Alrighty. Template:MFb was successfully split into Template:Super Mario Strikers and Template:MSC.. Could you check them for me? thanks.

Sorry Walkazo, I didn't know you were about to split Template:Skillshot I merged it into Template:MSC. But once I finished , I discovered that you put it on your Essays subpage, sorry again..--

The Essays subpage isn't an immediate to-do list or anything like that (the template section is more like a "don't forget this stuff forever" list), so no need to apologize. And thanks for splitting Tem:MFb; the new ones look good (although I'll probably tweak them a bit). - Walkazo 13:13, 4 August 2013 (EDT)

All colours come from this chart. Some tertiary/sub-headers don't have colours yet, but I'm actually working on assigning a few new ones today for future reference. - Walkazo 15:20, 4 August 2013 (EDT)
I already know about this chart, I was just asking if you use a rule or something.--
User:MegadarderyUser talk:MegadarderyDashbot signature
15:34, 4 August 2013 (EDT)
Basically it goes from darkest to lightest, with each colour being distinct enough to tell apart, yet still have a similar shade to the other ones in the header. I.e. you wouldn't use a yellowy brown subheader for the rusty brown MvDK templates (although it can sometimes be hard to judge since different screens do funny things to colours). - Walkazo 15:42, 4 August 2013 (EDT)

Image quality

Do images that were taken by a camera and still have part of the 3DS visible in the image qualify for the image-quality tag? Yoshi876 (talk)

You mean stuff like this? Yeah, that definitely need the tag: the sooner we can replace photos with proper screen captures, the better. - Walkazo 19:08, 4 August 2013 (EDT)

Help

I decided to create a writing guideline for Map Images, I'm willing to create a proposal about it, Could you check it here and help me with it before making a proposal. You could edit the draft if you like.--

User:MegadarderyUser talk:MegadarderyDashbot signature

19:49, 5 August 2013 (EDT)

Copying the intro word-for-word from MediaWiki is technically plagiarism, y'know. Plus, it's not directly relevant to what Image Maps are and why they're useful as far as this wiki is concerned. This is better:

Image Maps are images where different parts of the image link to different pages (as opposed to the entire image being a link to a single destination). For example, Template:Bowsermap is a map of Bowser's body from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, in which every area of the body links to the article corresponding to that area. Similarly, Template:SMRPG map links to the areas that are visited in Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars, all of which are pictured on the map. The purpose of Image Maps are to allow for easier navigation between areas in a game, as they are visual, rather than name-based.

The "Either of dimensions must never exceed the half of the other dimension. (e.g : If the height is 200, the width should not exceed 100)" point seems redundant: the dimensions of the maps should already be predetermined by the art/rips they're based on, right? I also question the need for platformer image maps at all. They've always struck me as a bit superfluous, especially for linear games - like Template:YISMA3_Map - what's the point? The level numbers are right there already, so it's not like an amorphous RPG map or whatever... This point is also really unclear: "Image Maps of multiple Select Level screens in the same game must share the same template with a variable to specify the World. " - no idea what it's saying.
- Walkazo 21:18, 5 August 2013 (EDT)
"I also question the need for platformer image maps at all." Agreed, but not all of them are unnecessary, {{NSMBU map}} I mean is good and should be kept. What I think you meant, and what I agree with is unnecessary: {{NSMB2map}}, {{NSMB2map}}, {{SMW2YI Map}}, {{YISMA3 Map}} and {{YIDS Map}} templates. I've edited the draft, have another check please.
"Image Maps of multiple Select Level screens in the same game must share the same template with a variable to specify the World. " I meant with it templates like this.

21:40, 5 August 2013 (EDT)
Yeah, {{NSMBU map}} is okay. Ah, I get it now; but if those sorts of templates are going to be deleted anyway, it's not something to be worried about either way, which is why I suspect you removed the point from your draft altogether. - Walkazo 15:41, 6 August 2013 (EDT)
If the proposal passes, I will make a proposal for this Guideline without changes. However if it failed, I will add some information about those type of templates, and then make a proposal. P.S: Ignore the Quotes Writing Guideline for now, there is still too much work before deciding to make a proposal for it.--

16:02, 6 August 2013 (EDT)
Well, hopefully it'll pass. Yep, I could tell it's still a work-in-progress, no worries; making a Quotes guideline was on my own to-do list, actually, but there's still a few other project goals I've yet to hit before it would have percolated up to the top. - Walkazo 16:11, 6 August 2013 (EDT)
Gee, I didn't know. However, two parteners on the same job, will make it grow. After Image Map Guideline is finished, we could team up for another.--

Question

Hi Walkazo

I just had a question. If my brother(Driftmaster130) did something bad on his account, would I get banned, and vice versa?

---Bowser animationBOWSERWORLD2 (Talk|edits) 18:29, 6 August 2013 (EDT)

We'd try to avoid that: there are ways to block one without the other. But that's only if we continue to believe that there are two brothers acting independently. It's in both of your best interests to just behave and not try to get each other banned and all that jazz: if dealing with it all becomes more trouble than it's worth, we will just block your IP all together and assume you were sockpuppeting all along. There is no hard evidence to the contrary, after all, just your words, and trust can be broken. - Walkazo 18:38, 6 August 2013 (EDT)

Thanks Walkazo

Passed Proposal

I can remember a passed proposal about regional differences. I just want to know, where will this kind of information be present? I want to take Super Mario 64. Because It is my non-RPG most favorite game. And luckily: I have all three versions of the Game: Japanese, NTSC (America) and PAL versions. I know many differences between 'em, some that even TCRF doesn't have. I can get good full resolution screenshots.--

User:MegadarderyUser talk:MegadarderyDashbot signature

08:43, 7 August 2013 (EDT)

Nifty. Just make a "Regional differences" section on the game's article. MarioWiki:Version differences explains more about the subsections differences can be organized in, and I highly recommend using {{multiple image}} for comparing screenshots. - Walkazo 15:04, 7 August 2013 (EDT)

Help on quotes things

Could I discuss with you organizing the quotes pages?

I came across several quotes pages.. And I say: they aren't organized correctly.. They need to be organized by characters, because a character may have an official quote said on the Nintendo's sites, which does not belong to a specific game. And beside that, Several characters have a quote said on all the games they appeared in. ("Mamma mia!" quote that was said by Mario in almost all games) May I have you opinion?--

User:MegadarderyUser talk:MegadarderyDashbot signature

15:58, 10 August 2013 (EDT)

I've wanted to make "List of Quotes by Character X" pages for years (we used to have subpages, actually, but they were scrapped when I was still a newbie, iirc), with the latest proposal about getting rid of generic quotes making me particularly interested. I was gonna make a proposal about it at some point (it's on that to-do list I mentioned earlier), but ended up getting caught up with the template stuff instead. Making Character pages would be good for generic quotes that, alone, seem meaningless and could be removed from any given game page, but as a whole, are part of a character's identity. And, like you said, it's also good for quotes that don't come from games, a show, or whatever. I have a pretty clear idea of what I'd want for organizing such pages; I could probably whip up a quick proposal so that we could get then approved, and also write a section for the policy draft. - Walkazo 14:46, 11 August 2013 (EDT)
I was actually recently thinking of reproposing that and saying make List of quotes for *character* so the wiki doesn't lose the quotes because that's the reason it got vetoed. Yoshi876 (talk)
Clearly, it's a popular idea already. I could probably have a proposal ready by the end of the day, barring any unforeseen side-tracks. - Walkazo 14:54, 11 August 2013 (EDT)

My articles

Hi. As you may have seen I've recently been creating articles for the Special Worlds in Super Mario 3D Land, however I worry that the layout part may be confusing, could you check a few of them and tell me what you think? Yoshi876 (talk)

The "layout" headers are unnecessary, but the content itself seems okay. (But keep in mind that I haven't played the game myself, so I'm no expert.) - Walkazo 12:49, 14 August 2013 (EDT)
I'm sorry, I meant the levels in the special worlds. Yoshi876 (talk)
Break some of the longer ones into a couple smaller paragraphs, and maybe less of "the player will then X", "the player has to Y", etc. - it's a bit repetitive and feels sorta like a walkthrough. Just describe what the level is like, with less emphasis on what you do in it. - Walkazo 13:01, 14 August 2013 (EDT)
Thanks. How should I rephrase it, because I'm having difficulties deciding? Yoshi876 (talk)
Just do it like the world articles are already doing it. - Walkazo 13:19, 14 August 2013 (EDT)
I'm guessing though you don't mean copy it. I've rewritten Special 1-Castle, am I heading in the right direction with that rewrite? Yoshi876 (talk)
Better. I tweaked it bit more to get rid of a few more instances of walkthrough-ish prose. - Walkazo 15:05, 14 August 2013 (EDT)

No, seriously. This is Tanookimario226 speaking. I personally believe that I have suffered my punishment long enough, (ten months), and I was wondering if you could find it in your heart to forgive me and unblock me, (or at least reduce the block length). You see, I will not only cause disruption, and I was actually hoping to contribute here. The reason I got blocked was for self-defense. I was just pissed over my IRC ban, and I attempted to tell the staff on the mod who issued it by posting a paragraph request on the MarioWiki Talk FAQ. I don't normally troll people. It was all out of anger, and I just hate getting harsh treatment over stupid matters. I have thoroughly learned my lesson, and I don't care if my past offenses here are held over my head after this. I just want to be brought back here, and start contributing more. I have suffered my punishment here, as well as on the other wiki, and I totally regret my misdeeds. I promise with all my heart to not cause any more offenses if you let me back in. If you don't let me back in after this paragraph apology, then tough beans. At least I tried. Issue with a user

Hi Walkazo. Sorry to bother you on an occasion like this, but I have an issue with TomBoy (talk). We keep edit warring based on images (related to Daisy), and I would really like to stop, but he doesn't seem to listen to me. I would like some assistance. BabyLuigiFire.png Ray Trace(T|C) 22:41, 15 September 2013 (EDT)

Yeah, we've had our eye on them for a few days: the Reminder didn't take, but maybe the Warning will. Just try not to get riled up about it, and let another admin know if it keeps up. - Walkazo 15:55, 16 September 2013 (EDT)

Issue with a user

If I'm getting a warring for edit warring, shouldn't the other user as well? It takes to to have a war. Seems unfair. TomBoy (talk) 16:13, 16 September 2013 (EDT)

The user came to you and admitted she was edit warring with me, and tired to paint it as if I made no attempt at communicating the issue out with them. In the case of edit warring, both people are in the wrong if the person who tries to undo the other person's edit in the first place, doesn't try to talk it out as far as it should be talked out. I know unfair treatment when I'm on the unfair end of it. The last thing I had said before getting this warning was to her that I was done and I basically said I was done with trying to get it to the version I still feel was right. Further, on a slightly related subject to this whole matter, look at Waluigi's page, then at Daisy's. His is a featured article why? The Daisy page is far better. The way I'm being treated on this wiki reflects on the treatment the character's page is getting, as it all connects to me trying to better her page. Call me paranoid, but I'd say it's pretty obvious people with "power" on here are misusing it to treat things with their personal opinions first and wiki quality and decency second. TomBoy (talk) 00:05, 17 September 2013 (EDT)
There is quite a difference between reverting and remaking the edits. What BLOF did by contacting an admin to deal with the situation was the right thing to do. Your post-warning comments comments haven't helped your case either; further perpetuating the argument after an admin has told you to stop is not only ignoring the warning, but is also undermining the authority of said administrator, especially when you start accusing her of bias and power abuse. Stop it now or I will gladly give you another warning. --TucayoSig.png The 'Shroom 16:28, 17 September 2013 (EDT)

Question

Can you appeal another user's warning? Because I feel this may have been unfairly given, because if the information the user had put in could be backed (I'm not saying it's speculation, just there could be the possibility of untruthfulness) then the edit is entirely valid. this is the information in question. Yoshi876 (talk)

Hmm, good question. I think it'd be best if users only appeal their own warnings, rather than someone swooping in and speaking on their behalf or whatever. You could talk to the user and encourage them to appeal, since the warning seems a little harsh (although not completely unreasonable, so it's a grey area that could go either way). - Walkazo 19:48, 21 September 2013 (EDT)

Proposal

After reading your point, and other user's points I think the proposal should be archived. Although I originally thought that it'd be an easy change, some think it may not and on further reflection it may potentially worry new users who can't adapt to the writing style and they may decide to stop editing. May I withdraw it? Yoshi876 (talk)

Never mind, I misread the withdrawing within 3 days of creation. Yoshi876 (talk)

Scripts

Why exactly are all the scripts being deleted? And shouldn't they have the pending deletion notice on them? Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 18:17, 5 October 2013 (EDT)

Like it says on the SiteNotice, see here for more info. Basically, we're an encyclopedia: we summarize the games, not reproduce all their content. If you wanna make full scripts, go to GameFAQs or something - it's not our place to do it here. The pages don't have pending deletion tags yet because they're going to be deleted after a few days, rather than ASAP. Once the admins agree on a date to delete them, I was planning to put specific notices to that effect on the pages. - Walkazo
The funny thing is that (specifically the Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Script) it wasn't anywhere near to being "complete". Anything else that's being deleted (other than scripts)? Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 14:52, 7 October 2013 (EDT)
Completing it was the goal. We just stopped it before more effort could be put towards a project idea that was never even formally proposed or approved in the first place. The Media files on The Year of Luigi Sound Selection are also going to be deleted: uploading the contents of an entire CD was another questionable endeavour that was never approved. - Walkazo 16:25, 7 October 2013 (EDT)
What's with all the cutting-back? Is there a worry about copyrights? Because really the Wiki as a whole is full of copyrighted material (ex. images, information, etc.) Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 16:39, 7 October 2013 (EDT)
I'm asking so many questions because my work is mainly being deleted. 1. I uploaded the Media files to The Year of Luigi Sound Selection (no one said I couldn't and I was hoping to upload music to other pages as well). 2. I started the Script of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (wasn't able to get very far in completing it, then someone was adding to it). Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 19:44, 7 October 2013 (EDT)
There's a difference between summarizing and documenting stuff as an encyclopedia, and providing a complete alternative to a game. People shouldn't come here to read the entire script of an RPG, and they shouldn't come here to listen to a whole CD - that's when the lines get blurry. So better safe than sorry. The forum thread linked to in the SiteNotices and in my first reply should have everything explained. Bad luck that you happen to be involved in the projects that were testing the limits of our coverage, but when you add to a wiki, it will get edited by others, and sometimes it'll get removed as well - that's just how it goes. In the future, instead of "no one said I couldn't do it", make sure people say you can do something before you undertake something that's never been done on the wiki before: that's what Proposals are for, after all. - Walkazo 21:57, 7 October 2013 (EDT)
I asked how to format the script and how to add the music and people told me. I didn't mean it like "no one told me anything and so that means it's fine". It is more like "no one said it was a bad idea". I asked questions how do I do this or that and people explained how to do different things. Since you want to delete Scirpts what about this one? Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 22:14, 7 October 2013 (EDT)
I read somewhere that it's a good idea to be a big help to the wiki or something similar to that. I was trying to help. I guess I wasn't very helpful. When I first saw this Wiki I knew this was the place for me, a HUGE Mario fan. I wanted to have my own website but it's too expensive. That's why I came here. I won't try being a "big help" for now because it seems that really the things you are deleting are things I added to the Wiki, well most of the things at least. Are the actual files going to be deleted? I think if you are removing them from their respective pages that it would be a good idea to completely remove the actual files from the Wiki. Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 22:25, 7 October 2013 (EDT)
Look, you're not doing yourself any favours by complaining to me about your stuff getting deleted. I'm sorry about your wasted time, I really am, but that's how it goes sometimes: images get replaced, pages get rewritten, content gets deleted. I've had stuff scrapped on me too - that's the risk of being part of a community of editors. Wanting to contribute is good, but you need to go through proper channels: if you had made a formal proposal, at least some people would have told you it was a bad idea. As for the YS Script, I've been wondering about that too - it's more of a grey area, but it's not up for me alone to say anyway: the admins will come to a decision on that matter. - Walkazo 22:33, 7 October 2013 (EDT)
Sorry, I'm not trying to complain. I'll stop bugging you (I'm not trying to). Thanks for explaining to me why. I'm still learning. I didn't know anything about the proposals. I guess I'm still very new to the wiki. Sorry if I made you irritated, I didn't mean to. Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 23:07, 7 October 2013 (EDT)
S'okay. Voting in proposals are a handy way to get to know more about the wiki and the community: I definitely recommend checking them out. - Walkazo 23:17, 8 October 2013 (EDT)
If I wanted to make a Proposal how would I do so? Is it just: Edit the Talk Page of MarioWiki:Proposals? Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 01:00, 9 October 2013 (EDT)
Proposals go on the actual Proposal page, not on the talk page. Just read the "How to" section on MarioWiki:Proposals and copy the example and/or what the currently running proposals are doing. - Walkazo 16:23, 9 October 2013 (EDT)
Okay, thanks for telling me. Agentdave7's Mii.Agentdave7 (talk) 16:27, 9 October 2013 (EDT)

Userpage

Are you allowed to put Mario Kart 7 community codes on your Userpage?? Thanks. - SuperBlueYoshi64

I think that sorta thing is fine. Just don't post phone numbers and addresses and things like that. - Walkazo 23:17, 8 October 2013 (EDT)

Hello Walkazo just a fast question..

Does every policy page need a shortcut? or it is made only for important ones.. or just 'create if you like'?--

Sometimes if a shortcut is logical and it seems like a page could use one, maybe an admin will create one; sometimes we'll make shortcuts when we make policy pages, sometimes we don't. It's all very whatever. There's certainly not a need for more shortcuts across the board. - Walkazo 17:03, 14 October 2013 (EDT)

Personal Images I want deleted

Hi, Walkazo. I'm Armin00 (MarioMan51, but I changed it now like you see) and I would like to ask if you want to delete 2 personal images. File:LinkSSBU.png and File:WarioDance.gif are the 2 images. Thank you, AC4-Edward.pngArmin00ConnorKenway.png 14:34, 25 October 2013 (EDT)

Done, but next time you can just mark them with {{Personal-image-abandoned}} and/or {{delete}} and someone will get to them eventually, or at the very least provide links to the images instead of just their names when you request deletions. - Walkazo 17:01, 25 October 2013 (EDT)

Since you're online, can you please delete this? (I marked it yesterday but no one seems to have noticed) --driftmaster130 (TalkEdits) 17:32, 25 October 2013 (EDT)

I deleted it, but for the record, one day is not an unreasonable wait time. Heck, one week is not unreasonable, or even more: there's no pressing need or hard deadline for deleting stuff - it'll get deleted when it gets deleted. Once you mark it, your job's done; we'll get to it whenever. - Walkazo 19:11, 25 October 2013 (EDT)

Thank you Walkazo! The reason that I always asked you was becuase I didin't understand how these templates work. Could be because my english was weaker a few years ago. But now I do understand. I won't be bothering you again with deleting pictures. Have a nice day, AC4-Edward.pngArmin00ConnorKenway.png 20:11, 30 October 2013 (EDT)

Okay, no worries: when in doubt, it's always best to ask someone, after all. I'm glad you know how to use the templates now =) - Walkazo 11:58, 31 October 2013 (EDT)

Thank you very much Walkazo! AC4-Edward.pngArmin00ConnorKenway.png 15:49, 1 November 2013 (EDT)

Hullo Thar!

Walkazo! Long time no see :O how's life? SJ derp :P

I know, it's insane how much time flies. :S I've been pretty well! I'm in my first year of college this year, which is pretty awesome. :P I actually already changed my major. I was originally studying Education, but now I'm a Music major :O SJ derp :P
That sounds kind awful :S But I'm assuming it's much better now? :D There's only been a couple things that have bugged me this year. The people who live across the hall from me in the dorms have a tendency to piss me off simply because they exist, and I dropped my Geology class because the instructor was terrible and I failed the first two tests. Dx But my other classes are going MUCH better! :D SJ derp :P
I would live at home...but I'm currently 5 hours away from my parents. :P But yeah, I was so happy when I dropped that class. Luckily, since I changed my major, the class is no longer required, and I'm still taking enough credits to be considered full-time! :D But I've been looking back at my talk page archives, and it's so...strange. I don't know how 7th Grade me managed to make friends here back in the day. xD SJ derp :P
My RA is taking O-Chem right now. I feel so bad for him, it sounds terrible :P Also, I've *gasp* been editing the Wiki the past couple of days O.O; I even surprise myself. Normally I've disappeared for a few months again by now xD (also, yay name changes! :D) SJ derp :P

Special 5-5

Hi. I recently created Special 5-5 and have each room of it as a separate paragraph, however, none of them are longer than two lines so I'm not sure whether they should all be merged into one paragraph or have all the ones before the checkpoint flag as one paragraph and the ones after it as another paragraph. Yoshi876 (talk)

I'd combine them into two paragraphs, yeah. Also, try to avoid saying "The next room contains..." so much: repetition looks bad. - Walkazo 13:11, 2 November 2013 (EDT)

Delete

Please block that IP address who vandalized Paper Mario and delete the edit, it contains random garbage about God and Jesus and uses vulgar language. Ztar Power (talk) 10:17, 3 November 2013 (EST)

Please don't tell me how to do my job. Thanks. - Walkazo 10:23, 3 November 2013 (EST)

Oh I'm sorry. But it doesn't look like a good edit to me. Ztar Power (talk) 10:24, 3 November 2013 (EST)

I apologize if I undermined your authority. But vandalism is not part of the wiki, and I've seen IP addresses get blocked for a month for vandalizing.Ztar Power (talk) 10:26, 3 November 2013 (EST)

I was going to get around to it; I was checking the IP and other more pressing stuff first. I was also waiting to see if the IP would edit again, or if it was a one-time thing, as I like to avoid blocking IPs if I can. I have to go offline soon and will be unable to keep an eye on things, however, so I'll probably block it for a bit either way. - Walkazo 10:29, 3 November 2013 (EST)

Question

I've noticed that in some of the deletion summaries, the reason given for removing an edit was "Shroom Content" Why did those edits get deleted? Ztar Power (talk) 20:00, 3 November 2013 (EST)

No idea. I'm not on the 'Shroom staff, and generally just leave them to their own business. - Walkazo 20:54, 3 November 2013 (EST)

Disambiguation question

Can a disambiguation page have a red link in it? Yoshi876 (talk)

Maybe, if the goal is to make an article for the link sooner than later. - Walkazo 18:15, 11 November 2013 (EST)
