Sun
From the Super Mario Wiki
This article is about the cosmic body the Mushroom World orbits. For information about the sun character from Paper Mario, see Sun (character). For the sun enemy from Super Mario Bros. 3, see Angry Sun.
The Sun is a large star that Mushroom World orbits. The Sun, from the planet, resembles a bright orange or yellow disk of varying size (based on time and location). The Sun appears during the daytime, while the Moon appears during the night. The Sun appears in many Mario games, but usually just sits in the background of various daytime stages.
In Super Mario Sunshine the sun actually served a function. To reach Noki Bay, Mario had to look up at the Sun in front of the water fountain. Also in Super Mario Sunshine, Mario can get a Shine Sprite by squirting it in Pianta Village.
"SUN" appears as a license plate in the Mario Kart: Double Dash!! course named Mushroom Bridge. It appeared on the bus that had Peach Beach written on it. Also note that in Double Dash the sun had eyes, something that hasn't appeared in any other Mario game (without counting the Angry Sun or other sun-like character).
One of the gameboards in Mario Party 8, Bowser's Warped Orbit is set over a star, which may or may not be the sun.
In Super Mario Galaxy, Bowser creates a sun which explodes into a Black Hole in the end.
In the Club Nintendo comic "Donkey Kong in: Banana Day 24", giant aliens pulled the Earth away from the sun, resulting in a drop of temperature on the planet.
[edit] Other Sun-like Entities
- In Super Mario Bros. 3, an enemy called the Angry Sun was introduced. This enemy was a small sun (extremely small when compared to the actual Sun) with an angry face.
- Another sun, called simply the Sun, was also extremely small. This sun provided the light needed to sustain the plant life of Flower Fields in the game Paper Mario.
- In Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS a painting of the Sun was painted on the ceiling of the Princess Peach's Castle's main lobby. Mario could use this painting to access the Tower of the Wing Cap and then unlock the Wing Cap. The same painting was on the third floor of the castle.
- In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga the Fire God's head is a sun.
- A Sun-shaped rock called the Sun Stone appeared in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, hidden away in the Fuzzy-guarded sewers of Shhwonk Fortress. The Sun Stone (along with its counterpart, the Moon Stone) was used to activate a Warp Pipe to Hooktail Castle.
- In Mario Party 6, there was a character named Brighton who acted as the sun of the Party World.
- A sun-like item named a Shine Sprite which first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine resembles a sun.
