Director’s Notes

SMB

Okay, so I haven't made a decision on who will write Random Image of the Month. I will go over all applications I have again and announce it next issue. For all of those who have applied, your sections look overall pretty good, and it's a hard decision.

Box-Art of the Month (Homestar Runner)

Boxart for Super Mario Galaxy 2.

This month's boxart is Super Mario Galaxy 2. I think this image is very well composed- The sky blends in just the right way, Mario & Yoshi look awesome, and the planets are in just the right places.

Screenshot of the Month (Fawfulfury65)

Coral Capers

Welcome back to the Screenshot of the Month. This week, I chose an image from Donkey Kong Country. So why on earth did I choose this? The image is much bigger than most images for the game, and the detail in some of the image is very nice for an ol' 16-bit game like this. The characters, Donkey, Diddy, Enguarde, and the Chomps Jr., are shaded very nicely and look much neater than the sprites in most other SNES games. And of course, I could never not choose an image from one of my favorite game. So there you have it. Tune in next month for the next Screenshot of the Month!

Sketch Related to Mario (BLOF)

Scan0010.jpg

Boo! Did I scare you? You didn't!? WHAT!? Anyway, this is BabyLuigiOnFire here, with you on Sketch Related to Mario of the month! Due to this month being October, I drew something a little special here to fit the mood of Halloween. My picture is a Halloween Party, Mario-style! Various characters can be seen in this picture, most of them dressed up in costumes.

Hope you enjoy this picture. I spent a lot of effort trying to impress you and I added a colorful touch to this newspaper using my abilities to draw. Stay tuned for next month; I'll draw ANOTHER special picture. Guess what it's gonna be about!

Sprite of the Month (FunkyK38)

This month's Sprite of the Month is this
Dark Fawful with his Vacuum Helmet Jetpack from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.
sprite of Fawful in his Dark Star Outfit. I guess you could call it a Halloween costume for him, sort of.

Fun Stuff

Farewell!

If you've read the Staff Notes already, some of you may have noticed that Tucky said that I'm resigning from my position as Director of the Fun Stuff. Why, you might ask? Well, I've been swamped with work now that I'm in high school, and free time is a rare and valuable gift. As such, I've been using it for other things that take priority. Thus, trying to hold my position and do well at it is unnecessarily difficult.

So, what does all this mean? Well, not only does it mean I'll be stepping down from my position, but this also marks my official retirement from the Super Mario Wiki. However, don't rejoice just yet; I'll still be around on Xephyr and chat! Just not as often as I'd like to be. I may also stop by the wiki and its forums just to check My messages, so I'm really only half-retiring. Anyway, this is my final issue I'll be taking part in for the paper, and I'd like to thank my writers for their meritorious effort in their sections, my fellow directors who were there helping me at every turn, and all of you readers for taking the time to view our paper.

Now, it's about time that I pass the baton into Tucayo's more than capable hands. I wish you the absolute best of luck in leading this section, and I know the directors have picked the right guy for the job.

Until next time!

Fake News

Director's Notes

by Ralphfan (talk)

Welcome to another Fake News! We are closing in on the end of the year. As you may know, The 'Shroom will be holding many contests, games and events to celebrate. My big project is the Flag Contest! Please check it out and submit some entries!

I would also like to welcome Stooben Rooben back!
Please welcome our newest writer, Scorpion999! He will be writing Fake Police Blotter.

I have been receiving a lot of applications lately and would like to thank everyone who has applied. Keep up the good work!

If you want to write for us, please follow these instructions:

  1. Find the section you’d like to write. The current openings are for Fake Music, Fake Police Blotter and Character Battle.
  2. Get an account on the forum. Don’t worry, it’s free. When you sign up, do not use a Gmail account. It will treat the activation message as spam and you will be unable to receive it.
  3. Send me a private message (my name is Sharks Territory on the forums). You can do so by finding my account name or just clicking this link.

After you send me the message saying you want to write for the Fake News, I will send you the questions you need to answer. Please remember that the current open positions are Fake Music, Fake Shop and Character Battle. After sending me your section, the other ’Shroom staff members and I will look at it, and we will make sure your section is good to go. After that, you’ll get a reminder each month telling you to send in your section.

Although you probably don't give a crap what I've been up to lately, I've been watching Chuggaaconroy's Let's Play Super Luigi Galaxy. Instead of doing a voiceover after he films it, it's all done as he records it, and most of what he says is hilarious. Other than that, I haven't done much besides enjoy the weather because while everyone outside of California freezes at this time of year, we enjoy temperatures in the 70s most days and rubbing it into the people who don't enjoy such nice weather this time of year.

Also, be sure to check out Userpedia's magazine, The Disconnected!

Free items!

The winter weather is starting to set in, and sooner or later, you'll be longing for some warmth and sunshine! The Keelhaul Key Resort is the perfect place to stay and soak in the tropical sunshine. The easiest way to access this incredible resort is by taking Cortez's boat from Rogueport. On the island, you can visit the many shops. Mario's crew will be there to cater to your every whim...except Four-Eyes. The only safety hazards are the Putrid Piranhas and the Embers. As for the Putrid Piranhas, they smell awful, though the tropical flowers should be able to help you survive the stench.

Fake TV

by MrConcreteDonkey (talk)

Birdo has problems.

Here’s one aimed at women-‘’’Desperate Princesses’’’ following Peach, Daisy and Rosalina and their respective husbands Mario, Luigi and Birdo. It’s like a drama, real-life sort of show, that apparently has took the critics by storm...either that or they were killed...in fact, forget I even mentioned that, OK?
The show has been running for 1 year so far, and series two is just about to start. At the end of the last series, Queen Toadstool’s mother died, making her the queen, and Peach the princess...in this new episode, Mario and Peach have a large argument, Rosalina starts doubting Birdo has any gender at all, and the situation gets really confusing as Yoshi, Birdo’s apparent husband arrives...meanwhile, Daisy throws out Luigi after she finds out about his secret stash of love letters to Birdo...wait, what?
The episode airs next Friday night, so anyone interested should switch on their TVs right now because I lied. It’s really on now.

Fake Police Blotter

by Scorpion999 (talk)

Tonight, in Mushroom City, two Bandits and Morton Koopa Jr. were arrested for robbing 3 banks, 4 Luma Shops, and 1 Toad House. The police pursued them through the streets. One of the Bandits, a bumbling idiot, hijacked a Bomb Car. They were chased down Moonview Highway, until they lost control and swerved off a bridge. The car exploded in the water, but they only suffered minor injuries. They were fined 10,000 coins for robbery, grand theft auto, home invasion, and assault. The Koopa King himself bailed out his son, but the Bandits were sentenced to 3 years of "community service".

Cooking Guide

by Baby Mario Bloops (talk)

Welcome everyone to an exciting episode of the Cooking Guide! This is BMB - as you should know my full name now - here bringing jubilant news that we aren't short of budget. Ever since we fired some people had lots of fundraising happening since last month, we got some extra stuff to put in this time around. :D - You see, even smilies! :D :D :D :D ;D

We couldn't book a guest this time as they were all doing some cake off to see who is better, so let us bring out our dish of the month! Behold, the Love Pudding!

I know, we even got a picture! :3

Alright, lets do some awesome font on each of them and show them how much money we have raised. I'm sure the wide use of vocabulary that I will present will show that we made a LOT of money. So let us B-E-G-I-N!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • An egg from Petunia deep with the hearth of the Great Tree.
  • Our Mango-e Pudding that I have saved from one of the early episodes - man was it a LONG time ago...
  • A perfect cherry.
  • Some frosting in a can.
  • 1/2 Water.
  • Teaspoon of Sugar.
  • A mixing bowl plus the spoon.
  • A platter.
  • An oven.
  • A fridge.
  1. Head deep into the Boggly Woods and avoid all the enemies - I know, ultimate linking - on your way. Pass the trivial that Petunia throws at wildly at you about Mario, and you to earn yourself with the oval egg you will soon crack.
  2. Hopefully you have saved all that you have done with the Mango Pudding from that one episode, and if you didn't, you better go back and learn from the early episode. Man wasthis long ago...
  3. Scramble the egg yolk until it is a nice liquid oil, and place over the chilled Mango Delight.
  4. Put in the oven that has been pre-heated to exact pinpoint temperature of 350.00000000000000000000000000000001 degrees.
  5. After exactly 25 minutes, 2 seconds, 18 milliseconds, and 9 nanoseconds - no sooner, no later - pull it out of the oven.
  6. Let it cool in the fridge on the platter, and then after 2 hours and 3 minutes pull it out.
  7. Add the most delicious and most decent cherry you could find, and place it on top. Use the frosting in the cup to made a decorative boarder around it. Sprinkle sugar over the boarder.
  8. After capturing the picture, that it, and then enjoy. I'm positively sure you'll al--

OH MY GOD! Our oven is on fire, hurry, hit the fire alarm! Quick, if I survive next week after the debts are paid fire stops spread across the entire stage, I'll see you all next month. Oh no, agh!

Spring Mushroom
Look at the shininess and sleekness of this gourmet item.
It's more comfortable than it looks.

Good afternoon. I have an important message to make. Apparently, there seems to have been a mass reproduction of Goombas and they have taken over the Fungi Kingdom.

We must spring into action! Are you guys ready?!

Audience: YEAH! LET'S KICK SOME GOOMBA ASS!

NO! YOU OBVIOUSLY ARE NOT READY TO SPRING INTO ACTION! That ois why today, I'm here to sell you....THESE!

Spring Mushrooms are a one-of-a-kind delicacy that, when digested, wraps your whole body in a nice and warm and coil. With this, you'll be able to literally bounce of the walls and ceilings. However, walking like a normal person may be a problem, but that is just one of many very few flaws. You’ll be so unstoppable, not even YOU can stop yourself from bouncing. I mean, look how invincible and invulnerable I look.

Spring Mushrooms taste great, and leave a rather unpleasant metallic mushroom-y aftertaste. J So what the hell are you waiting for, buy one now, before they sell out. Of course, I’ll have to bounce you if you do not have enough money.

SO WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GET YOUR LAZY ASS OFF THE CHAIR AND GO KILL SOME GOOMBAS. HURRY!

GO!

NOW!

SERIOUSLY!

Do not use near water.

Fake Interview

by Baby Mario Bloops (talk)

Hello my lame wonderful readers to our interview corner (just called the interview). BMB here to another wide episode of the - hold on, I think I will be right back. Queue the AS voice while I do something important.

Arnold Schwarzenegger - Madams and Gentlemen, it is time for me to introduce our guest. Even timid, they have stared in many things, and those things were pretty awesome. Let us clap our hands together for the Shy Guy. Show shall begin in one moment...

Shy Guy: Is this going to be who I am interviewing the entire time?

Security: *Shrugs*

Baby Mario Bloops: Alright, I'm back! Hopefully I am done doing what I did.

Shy Guy: Hi, again, didn't we talk before? And why is your face all burnt?

Baby Mario Bloops: Another Fake News section situation, let's not go into details.

Shy Guy: I don't see why not. And seriously, wasn't I here not that long ago?

Baby Mario Bloops: I'm the one that is suppose to ask the questions! So now, let us play the type of last week, shall we...

(Video Plays, yet is done in 10 minutes)

Baby Mario Bloops: Any comments on Bandit's less than perfect interview?

Shy Guy: I can't believe that little sneaker that steals everything. Sorry that I don't run all the time, I ain't high all the time. I could just scream so loudly in anger as I am the main species, he is a sub-species. I mean-

Crowd: *Gasps in Surprise*

Baby Mario Bloops: Your mask, it fell off!

Shy Guy: Don't look!

Baby Mario Bloops: Too late, oh my gosh, no wonder why you hide it. What is that, is your face...ALIVE? Geez, put that mask on this instant before I have to throw up. That is seriously messed up.

Shy Guy: Let us never mention that again.

Baby Mario Bloops: (Shaking) Ab-ab-so-lutely! Ahem, okay, so any other thoughts about what when down last month?

Shy Guy: Well, you see, I hear rumors about that from other minions of Bowser's about what happen, and I mean, we aren't hideous, are we? Hear, look again.

Baby Mario Bloops: Darn it, be right back!

Shy Guy: Didn't mean to make him barf, oh well, weak stomach, funny that I am wearing that ugly mask under this mask. Got to love Halloween time.

Baby Mario Bloops: Alright, I think I will survive now, that is some nasty stuff you got there. I think I should wrap up the interview.

Shy Guy: But we barely even talked about anything! I mean, all you got to see was my face, and that was literally all was talked about. Do I have to show you again?

Baby Mario Bloops: God no, keep that to yourself! Alright, before I go clear my thoughts will other stuff, I hope to see you all next month, if I don't die from vomiting. B-bye. Oh god, not another wave...

Fake Sports

by Ralphfan (talk)

The World Championships of Synchronized Swimming and Rhythmic Gymnastics (shortened to and pronounced WCSSRG) began yesterday at Peach Gardens. Controversy arose early in the first session when many of the Toads called out the Bob-omb judges for favoring their own kind. This incident may be stemming from last month's Mushroom Kingdom siege on the Fahr Outpost. The Toad and Bob-omb rythmic gymasts then began whipping their opponents with their ribbons, causing minor boo-boos. The event was later called off because synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics are clearly not real sports.

Fake Weather

by New Super Mario (talk)

Hello! I'm New Super Mario reporting live from the Fake Weather Section. It looks like Bob-ombs are falling from the sky! Here is what some people have to say about it:
Toad: ah, ah!! (faints)
Fawful: I HAVE EVEN MORE CHORTLES! Boomerang Bro: I threw my boomerang and the next thing I knew I was at the hospital doing some pretty strange stuff......
The bombs also seem to have a strange symbol on their back. The symbol is a Bowser Koopa shell, so investigators are interviewing him but he says: "I had nothing to do with it, or anything to with anything. Just ask any of my sons or my daughter, but try the boys first because my daughter is not the brightest bulb in the bunch." The bombs are also needing DNA samples to take to the Luigi University of Science. Strangely, The bombs are different colors. One matched Birdo's underwear. Another matches Wario's blouse. Also in today's weather, can Scuttle Bugs actually harm the sun? Find out next month, when we interview a scuttle bug! This is New Super Mario saying goodnight.

Edo's section will be ready soon.

Fake Characters

by DyegoHalliwell IceMario12 (talk)

Wizclown Mario

Wizclown Mario.

The brand new transformation of Mario is no other than his freakish fourth-fifth-sixth cousin seven times removed, Wizclown Mario.
He is a combination of two normal people that ate both a Wizard Shroom and a Clown Shroom, given to them by Bowser. Wizclown has LAS (Large Arms Syndrome) and a pretty long hair. Every time he casts a spell, it backfires and conjures Bowser, who secretly trades him coins for shroom drugs!

Lazi Koopa

Lazi Koopa.

He is the future son of Larry Koopa and an unknown female Koopa (probably Kylie Koopa).
He practices witchzardcraft, a very rare group of losers that try to become the biggest losers ever.
Because of this, he has lazy eye, and he can conjure things from that eye. He is in the GMATAS Foundation (Give me a Teeth and Spikes) and at night he often suffers from PFS (Pillow in the Face Syndrome).
Someone says that if he looks at something very closely, it blows up and becomes a Koopazard Shell, a very common item that kills Shy Guys and Koopalings.
The only Koopa ability that Lazi has learned is the Idiot Spin.

by MrConcreteDonkey (talk)

Hootette

Hootette.

Anyone remember that b**** from Zelda: Ocarina of Time, oh wait, wrong owl Hoot the Owl from Super Mario 64? Well, he happily helped Mario to reach the top of Whomp’s Fortress. But, I bet you didn’t know he’s married? His wife is called ‘’’Hootette’’’, because Nintendo has proved that if you add “ette” at the end of anything it becomes feminine. Now, like her husband, Hootette the Owl is flying high...in the large IKEA store where she works. She acts as a personal shopper, telling you how good the items on the top row, which you cannot see, are. Then she lifts you up so you can place however many in your basket. She then will carry your shopping for you (but beware if you bought small insects and rodents in the store, why does it sell them anyway?) all the way back to your car. She then returns home to a buffet of regurgitated insects after a hard day of work.

Ask Tucayo

by Tucayo (talk)

Hello readers, and welcome to a new edition of Ask Tucayo! Without more, let’s take a look at this month questions:

Hello. I have a question. If characters in the Mario series never EVER eat, how do they get their energy to go with the stomping and the kidnapping or Peach and all that stuff? It's highly illogical cause once Mario even touches the mushroom it disappears. Please reply.
-IandaM

Hello IandaM! The thing is, they do photosynthesis. It was a secret kept by Nintendo, but no more! Yeah, you will say “A human, photosynthesis?” Well, Mario and Co. have a piece of a plant DNA. How? Don’t ask...

Hey Tucky! I also have a question. Do you have any rated M games or tried any rated M games, and if so what are they and how do you like them?
-Booderdash

Hi Booderdash! Good question. Yes, I do have some M-rated games, all for PS3 or PSP, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (one of my favorite games), Ninja Gaiden Sigma, GTA: San Andreas (I love this game), and I guess they are all shooters. I have also tried some more shooting games.
I was not a big fan of shooting games, until CoD:MW, that game made me love them, so, naturally, I got to try more. Also, in GTA you have the freedom I like in games, to go anywhere, and do anything you like. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is an excellent game, too. I can tolerate gore (JUST in games), so I don’t have much inconvenience, however, I DO have a recommendation most of you have surely already heard, video games ARE NOT reality, so please, don’t try anything in the real life.

I'm pretty sure you'd say the Yankees will make it to the World Series, so who do you think will win the NL?
–Ralphfan

Of course I would say that haha. First, for those of you who don’t know, this is about baseball :) To me, the Phillies seem like the strongest bet, so yes, I am predicting a replay of the 2009 World Series.

Hello Tucayo, I wanted to ask why is your favorite character Kooper?
-Anonymous

Hello Mr. Anonymous. This is a cool story, and a long one, so take a seat. When I was a kid, my favorite character was Mario (how original…), and after some time, I decided I wanted something more original. Playing Super Mario World, I discovered I loved Koopas, especially blue ones, but most of them were generic, so when I got to Castle #7, and saw Larry, I chose him as my new favorite character, but, by some weird reason, I wanted my favorite character to be on the “good” side, so I kept looking… After some years, I got Paper Mario, and when I got to Koopa Village, I was thinking maybe I could find a cool Koopa to be my favorite character. And so I did, after helping Kooper get his shell back, and seeing it was blue, I immediately chose him as my new favorite character, and it has remained the same to the present day.
Actually, my obsession with him was so big, that I used him for ALL the game, except when I completely needed to change him.

That was all for this month questions, and remember, you make this section, so please PM me your questions about anything! If you don’t want to share your identity, you can just tell me you want it to be anonymous :) Thanks, and have a nice month!

Review Corner

by Ralphfan (talk)

Welcome to another Review Corner! This month, I'll be reviewing another spinoff sequel: Mario Strikers Charged!

The game, known as Mario Strikers Charged Football in Europe, is the sequel to Super Mario Strikers. While most Mario games are released in Japan first, this game, due to soccer's popularity, was released in Europe first. This game was first released in America in late June 2007.

Gameplay

Controls

Once again, Nintendo did an excellent job with the controls. They utilize the motion controls a lot without overdoing it. Some Wii games seem to be entirely motion-based, but this game balances motion and button-mashing extremely well. In fact, though this is a Mario game, it's not exactly family-friendly. Through my experiences with playing this game with many people, the people who seem to be best at this game are sports fans and people who played the first game in the series, which is a bit more simple. Playing against a player who is more experienced than you can be extremely challenging, and generally overwhelming for a first-timer. However, as a fan who thinks the Wii is far too noob-friendly, I love it.

Action

This game is very fast-paced. Gone are the Super Strikes of the original game, but Megastrikes take their place. Megastrikes allow the captain to shoot three to six balls at the goalie, who must stop them using motion controls. Sidekicks also play a bigger part in the game with skillshots. These count as just one point, though they are tough to stop. Some, if taken from the right angle, are guaranteed to go in!
Another nice addition is ratings. There are five player types: Balanced; Offensive; Defensive; Power and Technique. Their skills vary on the field, and it affects the skillshots the sidekicks take.
Captains also have their own power-ups. They generally vary by skill type, but each character has their own spin on their power. While the three Balanced characters, Mario, Luigi and Yoshi turn giant with their Super Ability, Yoshi turns into a giant Egg and rolls over as many players as he can before the time on the power-up expires.
Players also have new ways to Deke. In the original game, there were two basic dekes, a dodge-like move that looked like the player was skipping, and a spin move. In Strikers Charged, players have various moves based on their skill types. Some hide in their shell, some jump to avoid a would-be tackler, and (my favorite) some drop a giant hammer on any player in their vicinity. New stadiums are also introduced. Most of them have various quirks. Only The Vice is a straight-up soccer stadium. Some have no electric walls, and players simply fall off the edge. Other are prone to lightning attacks, which can shock players and immobilize them. My favorite stadium is Crystal Canyon. Before play starts, light reflects off the crystals and vaporizes one or two players on this team. The players rejoin the game after each goal, and one or two are zapped away each round. This can sometimes lead to an advantage for the most balanced team, though the game is generally fair in that if one captain is vaporized, the other is also vaporized. The new stadiums also have music, which can be turned off in the settings. I sometimes prefer having crowd noise as my soundtrack. One other note is that each stadium has a different horn played after a goal is scored.
Items play a major role in this game. They can be used to prevent an opposing player to reach a loose ball, steal the ball away, or prevent a shot on an open net.
Kritter is once again the goalie. His moves are generally the same, though he sometimes lazily swats the ball away. I F*CKING HATE THIS. More often than not, he either misses it or hits it to a wide-open attacker, leading to a goal. IT SUCKS.

Graphics

The graphics in the prequel were mediocre. The on-field graphics were strong, but the crowd looked horrible in 2-D. Improving the crowd and making the game look generally more violent was a big plus. However, I like how the crowd jumps out of their seats and celebrates after each goal in the original game, giving it a realistic feel. In Strikers Charged, the crowd is in 3-D, though the fans jump up and down all game. The arenas that they brought over from the original Strikers were expanded far too much, though. I enjoyed how realistic the first game was.

Story Mode

The story mode was pretty good. The player basically goes through three cups: Fire, Crystal and Striker. In the Fire Cup, there are three opponents, and to get to the championship you must finish in the top two following the double-round robin. Then, you must defeat the other team who finished in the top two to advance to the championship against Bowser Jr., a best-of-three series. Victory results in unlocking Bowser Jr. and the Crystal Cup, as well as multiple stadiums. (If you play as Bowser Jr., you face a random opponent in the championship). The Crystal Cup is made of six teams, and the top four advance to a knockout round. The winner faces Diddy Kong. The Striker Cup is an eight-team tournament, and the winner must defeat Petey Piranha. Like the original game in the series, opponents become increasingly difficult, though if the player uses Extreme Mode, the opponents are much harder from the start, though there isn't an enormous increase in difficulty from cup to cup. The one thing I don't like about story mode is the inability to switch between different captains and sidekicks between cups.

Other Modes

Like in the original game, you can play single games, though the name is changed from Grudge Match to Domination Mode. A new mode, Challenge Mode, is introduced. Players have to complete a certain task to unlock new power-ups as well as player cards, which include artwork and bios. A tutorial mode is also available. However, Custom Battles are gone, so you can't create your own tournaments.

Summary

Though the combination of items, Megastrikes, skillshots and Super Abilities make this game overwhelming at first sight, it's a load of fun to play. Sometimes, those factors make the game overwhelming, though, leaving you longing to play its prequel. (Classic Mode, which disables all the features listed above, is unlockable.) The Story Mode kicks ass. In all, this game gets an 8.5/10. I certainly hope this series is continued!

Pipe Plaza

Director’s Notes

SMB

So this is fun. It was my turn to direct Pipe Plaza this month. So here are some better notes from MG1.

MG1

Hey guys! Welcome to the Halloween issue of the Pipe Plaza! Chances are, this issue will be veeeery spooky. Or at least my section will :P

Aside from that there was a surprisingly small amount of people who turned their sections in this month...oh well, maybe next month people will shape up. Remember, we still need more writers! Finally I'd like to thank SMB for directing this issue and tell you to read on!

Featured (MG1)

Hey there! Welcome to the spoooooky section of ‘’Featured’’. What’s so spoooooky about this section? Well, it’s spoooooky because I keep saying spoooooky! Now, let’s see those spoooooky FAs!

And that’s all for this month’s spoooooky section featured!

Forum Update (Ralphfan)

Hi, welcome to this month's Forum Update!

  • Drseaweed was banned after countless occasions of trolling. The ban was enforced shortly after he made racially offensive remarks. He returned as sockpuppets named Doctorseaweed and The Evil Guy, though both were banned.

Fading into Obscurity

by Marioguy1 (talk)
Robot Monster Troopa
Robot Monster Troopa.

Welcome to this month’s Fading into Obscurity! This time to honour Halloween, I’m going to be talking about a special Halloween character who appeared only once in the history of Mario. You may or may not have heard of Robot Monster Troopa! If you have, good; if not, he is a character from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! who appeared in one episode, Koopenstein.

In Koopenstein, Robot Monster Troopa is a robot and Dr. Koopenstein (Bowser) wants to obtain either Mario or Luigi’s brains for it. However Dr. Koopenstein turns into the “Koopenstein Beast” and Mario decides to use Robot Monster Troopa to stop him. He rides Robot Monster Troopa up a hill in the Swiss Cheese Alps. Robot Monster Troopa is then forced by Mario to battle his boss (Bowser). Mario then battles Mouser for Robot Monster Troopa’s remote which causes it to fall on the floor. Robot Monster Troopa steps on it and he, Bowser and Mouser all get electrocuted, falling down the mountain. Robot Monster Troopa was never seen again.

Robot Monster Troopa is an excellent Halloween character though I understand why Nintendo didn’t include him in another game; he just hasn’t developed enough personality. So, for good reason, Robot Monster Troopa has faded into obscurity.

Brawl Tactics

by FunkyK38 (talk)

Greetings, Brawlers, here’s wishing you a happy Halloween full of Brawling!

This month, I will be discussing the angelic Brawler, Pit!

Pit is a medium‐sized Brawler that can glide with his wings. He is fairly fast and his attacks do a good amount of damage, but he’s a bit of a lightweight.

Palutena’s Arrow is Pit’s Standard move. Similar to Link’s Arrows, Pit will pull out his bow and take aim. You can charge this move up, but unlike Link’s Arrow, Pit will fire after a short time of being fully charged. Also unlike Link’s Arrow, Pit’s arrows fly in either a straight or curved line and do not get stuck in the ground. Your best bet is to set your aim and charge quickly for a hit on your opponent.

Angel Ring is Pit’s Side Special. This is one of my favorite moves to use, because, like a few other swordsmen, Pit will keep attacking as long as you keep hitting the button. This is a good move to use when you’ve got an opponent close to you, as you can deal massive amounts of damage if you can keep your opponent close.

Wings of Icarus is Pit’s Up Special. This move is annoying to use for a recovery move if you don’t work quickly. Once you activate this move you have to press your control pad or joy stick in the direction you want Pit to go in right after pressing B. If you want him to fly up to a stage or something, HOLD the Up button. If you don’t get the controls in in time, Pit will hover and you will not get the full altitude you may need to get back on a stage.

Mirror Shield, Down Special, is just like a Reflector – use it when you need to mirror an attack back at your opponent, but watch your back or Pit will get hurt.

Palutena’s Army is a one‐of‐a‐kind Final Smash. It can deal HUGE damage to an opponent, but the Centurions need help with the full power of the move. If you really want to KO your enemy, I recommend grabbing them right as Pit comes out of summoning the army. That will keep your opponent in place while the Centurions attack. If you can’t, your opponent may be able to dodge the attack, which is actually fairly easy.

That’s it for Brawl Tactics this month! Hope this helps you take on opponents as Pit and start dominating!

Mario Kart: Wheel Tips Corner

by Coincollector (talk)

Welcome to the galaxy! — Again!? Welcome to Mario Kart: Wheel Tips Corner. Your foe friend Coincollector is here to tell you the Mario Kart tip of the month.

Before getting to the the point, I want to tell you we had an interesting September this year, first because it was Mario’s 25th Anniversary (Congratulations Mario!) and second, because Nintendo told us all about the hotly‐anticipated Nintendo 3DS. A (very Oo) long list of games is set to appear on Nintendo’s new little wonder and one of them is the expected untitled Mario Kart. Another very brief video of the game was seen, but it is nothing different to what we’ve seen in the E3 and unfortunately its release date wasn’t confirmed (sobs). On the other hand we have confirmed the release date of the 3DS, which will be in 2011’s first quarter (why Nintendo, why…?) and will cost around $300 (Despite the “overrated” price, this one will print money too, lol).

Now, it’s time to take our karts and drive through a race course.

What is that nice place to race during a gloomy night over an old pier with many Boos laughing and singing “trick or treat” called? As a clue, it appeared again in Mario Kart Wii. Yeah, it’s Ghost Valley 2.

View of Ghost Valley 2 in Mario Kart Wii
Legend says those Boos were once racers who perished in this haunted course… At least Lakitu is there to save us.

This course might look kinda short (in fact it is, if you’re an expert) and simple but it has a lot of surprises that you may not have noticed. First off, the course has many 90 degree turns, but at least there are walls protecting many parts of the course. But not really. If you hit those old walls, they will fall off. Therefore you can make a mistake, but don’t do it for a second time or you’ll pay for it, going to the dark void and wasting a lot of precious seconds. Another surprise that this course has is a small shortcut found in the second corner of the track. As you can see there is a small piece of wood rising over the floor to make a small jump and pass the gap down there, but a simple jump won’t be enough, so you need to do a trick or get boosted by some object like a mushroom to cross that gap successfully. But be careful about going too fast, as once you have done the shortcut and put the wheels on the ground you might end up falling into the void. This course also has haunted Item Boxes that move around in the road. It is easiest to get them by drifting, but even so, it can be hard to do as those item boxes like to move into the course’s corners. Near the end of the course there is a boost pad that will give you an advantage to end the lap quickly., Just try not to catch the yellow speed bump right after the pad because that thing can ruin your boost.

Just as I said before, the course seems short (but becomes shorter if you got these tips) and there are very few possibilities to drop from your current place in the race… well, unless your opponent has some item that can stop you when you less expect it, that’s for sure… >:)

That’s all for Mario Kart Wheel Tips Corner of this month guys, and remember to look both ways before crossing the road, or else a Boo will steal your wallet.

Character Reviews

by Marioguy1 (talk)

Hello there everyone! It’s Marioguy1 here for the introduction of a new section...’’Character Reviews’’! For this section I will review the different aspects of a character attained randomly. The character may or may not be major or minor. It could be from any series. Only the random button can choose. However if anyone sends me a request by PM on the forums or on my talk page here at the wiki, I will most probably comply with the request.

Character reviews will be split up into five portions; storyline, design, humour, potential and used potential. I will include a paragraph on each section, ending with a rating. At the end of the section I will add up all the ratings and divide it by five, the end result will be the character’s rating. Anyways, enough explaining; time for the real section. This month the random button was a good function and reviewed a Mario & Luigi series classic that apparently...has fury...oh, and chortles! Yes, this month I am reviewing Fawful!

Storyline

Fawful made his first appearance in ‘’Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga’’ as The Dragon of the game. Basically he was Cackletta’s top lieutenant and was a constant hindrance to the Mario bros. He appeared everywhere and annoyed the Mario bros. with different enemies, puzzles and himself. Finally he culminates a battle with the Mario bros. and goes out the window.

In ‘’Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time’’ he appears again as a shopkeeper and sells badges to the baby Mario bros., he also gives out some helpful advice but has no major role. You’ll be hearing about that in the potential section.

Finally in ‘’Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story’’, Fawful is the main antagonist (technically using a new trope) and infects the Mushroom Kingdom with the Blorbs. Fawful has major storyline appearances in that game and appears too many times to include it in a paragraph. He does basically the same thing as the first game and puts challenges in the way of the Mario bros. and Bowser. His purpose is to get the Dark Star and then he transforms into Dark Fawful after doing so. He battles the Mario bros. but eventually when he loses, he explodes. Guess he had too much fury Tongue

Anyways, Fawful’s appearance in the first and third games was very important to the storyline however his appearance in PiT had much lacking. Fawful gets 8/10.

Design

OK, this section will be much shorter. Fawful has had basically the same design throughout the games...two of them anyways. His appearance in all games revolves around him having green skin, impressive headgear and a red cape. His eyes are swirls as well.

I honestly like the cape and green skin ideas but the fact that he has that headgear is really annoying in my opinion. It’s too big and clunky. Plus his mouth is ugly while he’s talking X_X. Anyways, his Dark Fawful form is much cooler but, unfortunately, we have passed a proposal to split those characters so I’m not covering dark fawful. His PiT design was more of a skin-tight white suit with an antennae which I honestly liked more so, this is very subjective though (I hate clunky headgear), Fawful gets 7/10.

Humour

Yes, the humour section, where I will inevitably shine...NOT. Anyways, the only humour I see with fawful is his (waaaaay over abused) “I HAVE <FEELING>” fad. I find it amusing how Nintendo abused the fad more than many fans but it’s still pretty funny when you first realize that. Other than that, Fawful has many humorous phrases including numerous words that make me giggle and just facepalm at the absolute stupidity of them. So, there you have it, Fawful’s humour explained in a paragraph. But I do give him a 7/10 for the funny phrases Nintendo came up with.

Potential

Nintendo has opened up Fawful to the world in many ways. His signature phrase has allowed him to become a comedy character meanwhile he still maintains a sinister air around him. He seems to be a funny super-villain...anyways, in Superstar Saga Nintendo chose to knock fawful out of a window instead of showing him being defeated, leaving the world open to having him stuck back in for the next games. PiT, as I said before, sucked at giving Fawful potential. They basically reversed his role from antagonist to protagonist. I hate that so don’t expect high marks in this section >_>

Anyways, finally, in BiS, Fawful really hit the peak and then exploded, destroying all future potential. So basically the total score here is 5/10 (sorry).

Used Potential

This section really coincides with the last one...anyways, Fawful was abused to the max in Superstar Saga and in BiS so he gets good marks in those two games. However he was left out and totally dropped in PiT which really stinks. So here he gets 7.5/10.

Total

Well, Fawful is done being reviewed and now I add the scores together! So, my assistant GameServ will do the honors... <GameServ>: MG2: (7+7+8+7.5+5)/5 = 6.9 So, Fawful’s total score is 6.9/10 (AKA 7/10). Sorry he got such a low score but he died in M&L: PiT. Anyways, this has been: Character Review!

Flag Contest

As part of our end‐of‐the‐year festivities, we have decided to organize a contest! The goal is to create a flag to represent the Mario Wiki! Here are the rules:

  • Create a flag to represent the Wiki!
  • The flag can be based off a real national, state, etc. flag, though it must be altered in some way.
  • Designs that are completely original are also accepted.
  • Accepted dimensions for the flags are:
    • 500px by 1 000px
    • 630px by 990px
    • 600px by 1 000px
  • The more, the merrier! There is no limit to the number of flag designs you can submit.
  • To avoid bias, the artists’ names will be kept anonymous during voting, though the names will be revealed following the end of the contest.

To send me your flag, create the image on Photoshop, GIMP or some other image editing software. Then, upload it to Imageshack. It’s a great site for image hosting, and you can get a free account there. Once you have uploaded your flag, PM it to me on the forum. Along with the flag, please include a brief description of the flag. For example, if you were describing the American flag:

The American flag.

In the top‐left corner of the flag (the canton), there is a blue square with 50 white stars, one for each state. Thirteen stripes, alternating red and white, take up the rest of the flag. The 50 stars represent the 50 states and the 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies.

It doesn’t need to be very detailed. A basic description like that is all you need.

Entries will be open from now until November 7th. No late entries will be accepted! Following the entry period, the voting round will start, and it will end November 14th.

If you are looking for flags to base your design on, use these sources:

Voting is closed

This flag is a flag. The red "M" is symbolising Mario, the yellow "W" for Wario, the purple "S" for Waluigi, and the green background for Luigi. SMW spells Super Mario Wiki. The heads of the main Mario characters surround the letters.

Daisy's Pastel Dream, a composition by me.

The Princess is presenting herself from her best side tonight. She is sporting a dream of decent pastel colors, a lovely and tender veil of soft colors that soothe the human eyes. It's modest appearance contrasts sharply with the wild and vibrant colors of the messages in the background. On top of this delicate fabrication of sensationsrests a distinct, yet graceful touch of bold ebony letters on top of a pearl-white gleam. This masterful symphony of shapes and colors leads the viewer with a firm, yet pleasant grasp, until their journey of awe comes to a circle in the bottom left corner, where Princess Daisy meets the beholder's gaze and greets them merrily. The lady herself is wearing a mustard-colored dress with puffy sleves which resonate tactfully with the princess' main accessory: The megaphone. All in all this astounding composition is an ode to the grace of mankind's society, as well as an inspiring metaphor for the meaning of words.

Thank you for the attention. I'll be selling prints for $3000.00 per piece for the rest of the evening.

It is based off of the Welsh flag. I have changed the boring red dragon to Porple's colors, because he is the founder of the Wiki. I have also changed the green to red, because that is the color associated with the Mario series.
