We so need a new name. DKPetey99DKPetey99TCE 19:23, 25 June 2011 (EDT)

Since it's conjecture, you can just move the page to a name that you think is better. I also think it might be too long, but it was the only name I could think of at the time. -ThirdMarioBro: Mario, Luigi, and me! 19:26, 25 June 2011 (EDT)
I personally would title the article as "Racer Penguin" or "Penguin Racer". Fawfulfury65

Name[edit]

The Nintendo Player's Guide for Super Mario 64 refers to this penguin as both the Big Penguin and the Penguin Champ. While both of those names should certainly be used on this article, I'm unsure of which one should be the title. For reference, the little box that gives information on the bosses/characters used to get Power Stars is titled "Penguin Champ", whereas the prose of both that box and the walkthrough for the Power Star in question consistently calls him "the Big Penguin". The Star itself is also called "Big Penguin Race", both in the guide and in-game. However, later in the guide, the large penguin in Snowman's Land is also called "Big Penguin" in its little box thing, which leads me to perhaps think that "Big Penguin" is a species name (like Grand Goomba, Big Boo, etc.). So, yeah. Thoughts? 1337star (talk) 18:13, 12 October 2012 (EDT)

Split?[edit]

Split request has been sitting on this page for several months, so let's talk about it. This article is about a specific character in Super Mario 64 and its sequel. Differently named penguins will probably be split anyway because of Minor NPCs policy, but there is also another type of big penguin out there, found in Pushy Penguins minigame for Mario Party Superstars. Jordan from Play Nintendo calls them "big penguins". In addition, Data House calls them regular penguins. Spectrogram (talk) 11:50, April 13, 2023 (EDT)

As it's stated directly in Mario Party Superstars, the big penguins in that minigame are considered regular penguins. The only other penguins smaller than those in said minigame are babies, which are already treated by the wiki as a conceptually distinct thing. Play Nintendo's video simply uses the "big" epithet to distinguish the parents from the babies, and it's not a better source to use than the game itself at any rate. As it stands, really the only abnormally large penguins in the whole franchise are the Penguin Champion, the Penguin Defender, and the background instance in N64 Sherbet Land; the first has an article of its own, the second is slated to have one going by that red link, and the third is a minor NPC that's already mentioned on the Penguin page. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 12:10, April 13, 2023 (EDT)
