Spike is the name of King Koopa's cousin in the movie Super Mario Bros. He works with Iggy (another one of Koopa's cousin) to kidnap Princess Daisy.
Spike is protrayed as being very dumb. King Koopa becomes angry at both him and Iggy, and has them both evolved to be smarter. This is done using a machine primarily designed for de-evolving people into Goombas. Now thinking for themselves, the Koopa cousins decide to become allies with Mario and Luigi.
Spike is most likely based on the enemy, Spike.
