First appearance | Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (2004) |
The Security Key, originally known as the Card Key, is an item found in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, where it is used to access certain areas in the X-Naut Fortress on the moon. The Grodus room to the right of Sublevel Two has a green Security Key on the computer table. The electrical-floor room to the left of Sublevel Two guards a pink Security Key. The electrical-floor room to the left of Sublevel Three guards a yellow Security Key. They are necessary to open the door to the factory room to the right of Sublevel Three. The factory also contains a blue Security to allow the player access to the boss Magnus von Grapple 2.0.
In the remake, the cards are distinguished by symbol: blue has a club, pink has a diamond, green has a heart, yellow has a spade, and a new purple star-symbol card has been added. Four Security Keys are now required to access the factory. As a result, the blue Security Key is now found in the restroom of Sublevel Four, and the player must defeat a lone Elite X-Naut to obtain it. The new purple Security Key therefore replaces the blue Security Key in the factory.
